[RELz] Detailed and Reflecting Armor

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 1:17 pm

I was making Detailed Armor, Illuminated Armor and the Steel Reflections compatible for MGSO and I received many request for a standalone release.
Here it is!

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9131

And here the original readme:
Description
===========
This simple mod is a compilation of 3 different community-made add-ons:
- Baofu92's Detailed Armor
- AnOldFriend's Illuminated Armor
- Bahamut's Steel Armor Reflections
- Darknut's Armor Textures

Details
=======
What I did was edit the Detailed Armor meshes to include the reflections maps of Illuminated Armor and Steel Reflections. I also renamed all the meshes to make all pluginless and included Darknut's Armor Textures.
The only meshes that I left out of this are the cuirasses. I couldn't include them because the Detailed Armor meshes didn't have the bones attached to the armor model. In other words, they where buggy.
With this mod, the Indoril, Glass, Daedric, Adamantium and Steel armors will have reflections. And almost every armor in the game will have smoothed, nicer meshes and improved textures!

Install
=======
1. Extract the files to a temporary location.
2. Copy files to (install folder)\Morrowind\
3. Overwrite files if asked
4. Play the game!

Uninstall
=========
Simply go to Morrowind\Data Files and run "Detailed and Reflecting Armors-Uninstall.bat"

Incompatibility
===============
This mod conflicts with all the meshes replacers for the armors.

Great work!
Maybe you can include these Darknut's glass textures with transparency? => http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9120

Nice. Downloaded. I actually tried to do some of this myself, but stopped when I came up against the cuirasses; hopefully, someone who knows about armour can do them. Anyone? Please?

Yeah I'll see, maybe an optional directory :)

What we need is an animator that has to spend quite a lot of time on the armors :confused:

I had strange issues with "Detailed Armor", whenever a npc was in my fov with these new meshes, my frames dropped close to zero.
As Alexir said a female version would be great for the cuirasses. I tried to add AOFs reflect maps to Plangkye's female glass cuirass,but without being succesful.
Though her mesh has the bones attached.
Could you take a look into it?

Oh I should thank you. It's more like a request. :tongue:
I gave any NiNode a NiTextureEffect: "glass_ref.dds" and added the corresponding reflect maps to the NiTriShape. As well as switching "has bump map texture" to "yes" and making child entries.
But I must have done something wrong with that, because my skills are rather limited.

I truly don't want to rain on this parade, and it's the sort of modding work I'm becoming interested in researching myself anyway... but this pic exemplifies a problem with going down this route. It just looks too sparkly to me and I'm not sure that the reflections are adding anything helpful. Even in a highly retextured setting, the very high level of detail is out of place. It's all about matching "grain" in the textures, that is what makes the scene look seamless, but this sparkly detail just doesn't match the setting. Is it actually reflecting the colours/light detail of the suroundings?

KINGPIX, it's hard to tell from your screens whether you've already done this, but the pixelation and sparkly-ness can be greatly improved if you go into the NiTexturingProperty of the mesh and under Bump Map Texture you set the Clamp Mode to WRAP_S_CLAMP and the Filter Mode to FILTER_TRILERP.

I was experiencing the exact same issue when I installed this yesterday. Are you by chance running your game with high detail shadows turned on? It seems to have been the cause of concern for my game and by disabling real-time shadows set the FPS to a much more tolerable level. While high detail shadows are definitely cool I don't think that there is an easy way to have them and these meshes run together.

Detailed Armor is in fact a framerate killer-- its meshes are HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE and lag (for me at least) even in NifSkope.

In general, I've found high-detail shadows to be a killer. I use http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7713 instead to make the shadows prettier while keeping the framerate fairly constant.

Oh, my! Have you seen http://savepic.ru/2495707.png on those Baofu's meshes? :o
It's http://savepic.ru/2520282.png! No wonder it brings GPU down to its knees.. :dry:

You mean you left them out in upcoming version, right? Because the meshes on my pictures are from your current http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=9131.

Yes that's only the glass one.
The other cuirasses are the vanilla meshes. In the upcoming version I'll bring back the glass one too.
