[BETA] Detailed Terrain

Post » Tue Mar 29, 2011 11:45 pm

is there any more progress at all on this mod?

Zeroed is still working on the flickering blood decals, but other than that the mod is more or less complete. Other than that issue, everything that can be resolved has been resolved as far as I'm aware. If there's something I'm overlooking, please let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Bump :)

Summing it up, to install the latest version (that has not been conveniently packed for release yet) you have to download the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15245 and apply the http://hosted.filefront.com/Zeroed/2216031.

Simple ya?

I have been trying to discover the reason why a part of the Niben Bay floor had dissappeared. I narrowed the problem down to Bomret's Texture pack, so I decided to install DT on top to try to fix the problem. However, when I tried to install the DT patch 2.omod OBMM showed an error message about being unable to access the tempshader file and the main file (DT Beta II .04) had already changed it.

Edit: http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=880392
I downloaded the files from PES and TESNexus. The SI and UL versions loaded fine, but the main file (downloaded from both TESNexus and PES) gives an error upon finishing the decompression process. http://www.picpanda.com/viewer.php?file=f4slni2nliit7txkdo.bmp This only happens with this mod file, not any others.

Right click on the omod and select extract to folder, extract to location on harddrive..does it fail when you do it this way?

if so then perhaps your download got corrupted, try downloading later..

I guess this never left the BETA stage... does anyone know if there are any glaring bugs with Detailed Terrain or is it safe to use?

The issue with flickering blood splatters is sending me to the madhouse... Is there absolutely no fix for it?

Have you tried "Detailed Terrain Patch 2", it resolved the problem for me (which made me quite happy). Though I remember I was searching for hours until I found that fix, don't even know the author. As far as I know it's neither uploaded on tesnexus nor on pes.

I'm actually using that, it's by zeroed. But I've still got the problem. I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling the omod to see if it works. I've seen it edits shader packages, I don't really know much about that.

Do I need to launch Oblivion with obmm to make shader edits work?

no you don't need to launch Oblivion via OBMM for it to work (I use DT and launch via OBSE launcher) but it's a good idea to install shader mods by OBMM

I tried it again, but to no avail. In my case it doesn't solve the problem, I guess I'll have to do without Detailed Terrain for now...

:( There's absolutely no way I could play Oblivion without Detailed Terrain. I know that sounds a little odd because it's just a graphical improvment, but before Detailed Terrain all the terrain textures were blurred together so much that they looked like crap, QTP or not. The ground looks so much better that I can ignore some occasional blood flickering. I'd rather disable blood altogether than disable detailed terrain :P.

To each his own, of course.

Actually, it IS very good for me too. But I hate issues, of any kind. I guess I may disable blood splatters, there is a way I think...

Salve!

I did exactly the same thing, since the flickering didn't go away completely, just got much better. The very strange thing is: Last week I made a complete reinstall of my Oblivion setup (took me exactly 12 hours; lucky me who has so much time available), but since that I haven't seen a single flickering blood texture. I have no idea why and how. I had not much time for testing though and it is very likely that it was just wishful thinking and the trouble will occur once more as soon as I try again. But after test-slaughtering some mudcrabs, boars and bears I nearly felt a bit elated. But I guess one should not rejoice too early.
Well, I'll report back when I know for sure and should the unlikely happen. Maybe the problem can be resolved completely somehow. It would be so necessary for such an excellent mod.

Greetings!

Greetings!

Looks like the blood-flickering-bug is gone. It didn't even occur once since I made the new installation. I know thats a quite useless information, since I've absolutely no idea what did it.
At least we can assume that it can be fixed more easily than located.

I tried changing some ini settings, but it's a no go for me. I can't find a way to make the flickering go. Did you reset your ini when reinstalling Oblivion?

Yes, I did and I just changed a few settings: Lightlod 2, blood- settings, water reflection, dialogue focus and screenshots.
I see no way to unravel the mystery either. The only thing I did different this time was using the Replacer function of Wrye Bash, and excessive omod-creation. But I hardly see a link to the problem here. Since I'm not really well versed in such things it's even harder for me to see the connections. Maybe its another mod causing it? A shader replacer? Or alternative blood textures or something like that? Don't even know if thats possible. I'll post my load order. If you want I could send you my ini- file, although it can't be much different from the original.

Right now the only solution I can come up with is to get rid of the blood decals altogether...

Hey, me too! :)

I might have another look at the shaders and see if I can come up with something.
