[BETA] Detailed Terrain

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:20 am

For some reason, Detailed Terrain and Qarl's Normal map 4096 LOD doesn't work anymore. I made them into OMODS, but they aren't working. Maybe I should deactivate, then reactivate both of them?

Having just found this mod I'd be quite interested in getting the Detailed_Terrain_Patch_2.omod patch also, does anyone still have it?

I am just posting it because it cannot be found anywhere else at this time.

Will this conflict with Vibrant Distant LOD / Textures or >>insert landscape texture replaces here<< ?

Great thanks!

I think this mod is so under rated, I've never heard of it before either and the difference it makes is impressive, things look much better.

So how does this work? I took it apart to see what is inside the omods and in the shader folder are a bunch of files that have the extension .pso - not shader files (.sdp)

Does these then alter the shader files?

I of course have the originals backed up.

When you activate the omod it will merge the pso files into the shader files themselves this is how it works. If memory serves correct.

so have a backup of shaders just in case.

Yep from looking at the omod info, it puts those files into the shader files.

I installed this overtop of Vibrant textures though. I walked outside Bravil and the road did NOT look right, it had the bricks from Detailed Terrain (or QTP3), and then more of the original or Vibrant textures bricks surrounding it. So Detailed Terrain got uninstalled, unfortunately.

The shader patch is available from PES and TESNexus now. I should have done that long ago, but I wasn't really paying attention. Heh. In any case, you shouldn't have any trouble getting it in the future now.

As noted in the description on both sites (and now in the first post, thanks for the reminder), the patch may help resolve the flickering blood decals issue for some folks. It's the same patch that's been around for better than a year at this point, just now posted for download with the rest of the files, so folks don't have to dig through the thread here to find it.

I'm not sure what Zeroed's process was with these. Try PMing him.

I'm going to look at this later anyway, but does anyone know if these files: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=26075

would have to have alpha properties added to them to work with Detailed Terrain?

If so, is there a general guide to it, and is it difficult?

I downloaded that mod and had a look, and its textures do not contain the alpha information used by Detailed Terrain. You could add them pretty easily though, if you know the basics of working with textures. Check out the mod guide linked in the first post for guidance. For what it's worth, you could use them without the alpha information as well - you'd just get old fashioned regular blending for those particular textures.

Still lovin' this mod. Still getting some flickering/green blood issues at times, but probably my own fault somehow. Great work, nonetheless!

Since I have trouble installing the Shader Patch after activating the main mod, can I just not install the shader edits from the main mod and rely on the patch?

Yes, I've used Detailed Terrain and OBGEv2 for a while without any issues.

Unrelated to OBGEv2, I still get flickering blood even with the patch installed, but it's a small price to pay for something as incredible as Detailed Terrain.

Seriously, this might be my favorite mod, just based on the fact it overhauls the entire ground terrain in such a subtle, elegant way. There's really no reason not to install it, unless you prefer the vanilla textures to the alpha'd up QTP3 textures that come with Detailed Terrain. Maybe it's about time I try to add alpha channel information to the vanilla textures, that way everyone can taste the magic of Detailed Terrain.
