Detect Life and Clairvoyance

Post » Sun Oct 02, 2011 5:21 pm

Since Mysticism is ousted, what will Detect Life be under?

Also, what will Clairvoyance be under?

I don't know if either of these were confirmed and I just missed it, but either way- I wanna know what you guys have to say.

Speculate or confirm

I think both will be under illusion, but I don't know.

Good question, doesn't fit any of the current schools.

I was thinking illusion too: The following are the confirmed Illusion spells that will usable from this skill

Clairvoyance (draws a path to your nearest objective)
Frenzy

This is from Skyrim wiki, I know it can be changed but figured I'd put this anyways, I assume Detect Life falls in there too.

Clairvoyance, this is the spell that makes you realize how dumbed down it is, i mean REALLY? do we really need a spell that shows where to go, we already have the map, the compas and fast travel, this annoys me :swear:

When they are using detect life in that video, i'm pretty sure the skills increased a couple of time, although my memory is fuzzy so I'm not sure which ones where the ones that did.

Don't illusion spells affect NPC's and alteration spells affect environment? I always though that was the main difference.

For me illusion was to deceive the senses and Alteration to change the laws of nature. It really doesn't make sense that you get to receive previously unknown information through illusion, but whatever.

It makes sense if you want to play without markers and don't WANT to use the 3D map. It more has to do with someone Role Playing and that all to infamous "I" word we've all come to know and hate.

Yeah... multi-level dungeons or buildings can make all of what you listed useless. I hope that Clairvoyance never becomes required, just the crutch for the mainstream players I am sure it will be. But there is the possibility for it to be needed, depending on dungeon/building design.

I'm playing with markers turned off. I'll be using Clairvoyance as a light touch. Please don't insult me.

LOL without markers using it is very useful, I'm just thinking about how easy it is for normal players who have that line when they could just open up their map(which i think i heard somewhere can be 2d) and look/look at the compas(I cant spell that for some reason). fair enough having markers turned off it's fine :) the thing is it really annoys me that these new players are getting all this stuff to help them, yet the old players get the same formula, when bethesda are promising all this new stuff and most of it is only really useful for new players/lazy noobs. :flamethrower: :tes:

I think alot of mysticism spells will get added to alteration. alteration was one of the weakest skills in oblivion, hopefully it's more useful in Skyrim. Also, I think turn undead is part of restoration and paralyze has been moved from illusion to alteration maybe? not completely sure though.

Honestly, it is a spell that you choose to cast that shows you the way out. I don't know how many dungeons I've gone into and wound up getting lost in. Whether we're talking Morrowind as a teen or New Vegas early this year (stupid cave system), getting lost happens. For that reason, I see this as a spell I'll use from time to time.

As for their placement, alteration makes sense for both. I view illusion as deception, and as such anything created is a lie. Altering reality to see what is real in a different way, detecting life/ seeing future paths, are in no way lies.

Todd said they put it in mainly for the dungeons. Something about them becoming very detailed and almost like labyrinths. I think it is a pretty kewl idea. I would rather have this then freakin fast travel.....lol

Sorry, but fuel prices annoy me more...

I'm going to try to avoid fast travel (at least when 1st person horse riding becomes available via mods), I'm probably not gonna use any markers at all (incl. POIs), so Clairvoyance is a valid option for me in dungeons (who's map svck at depicting elevation differences - would like to pan and rotate slightly here as well to better visualize the details) when I'm truly stuck. Go complain about something worth complaining about...
