Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Thread #2)

Post » Thu Aug 19, 2010 3:47 am

Just figured I'd post a link to http://www.youtube.com/user/EidosMontreal#p/u/0/dcBhPrFzMpY where they upload "Ask JJB" videos (usually about Deus Ex: HR) ) pretty regularly. There have been some interesting questions and the answers really make it seem like the game is in good hands.

im glad that the health regen is slow............but lean keys are out and he said that he "guaranteed that each and everyone of you is going to use the cover system". does that mean that that is the only option now cause if i can play strictly first person "i can guarantee him that i wont use the cover system" no thanks but i dont like my games super easy.

I think he meant that both stealth and action-oriented players alike will benefit heavily from the cover system, which sounds like a good deal. I'm not really antsy about third person switches. I even thought it was a pretty neat little feature in the Rainbow Six Vegas games, so I won't mind seeing a return of it.

rainbow vegas.........that game was an abomination. if you have to play the previous ones to understand how they crapped all over that series.

cover systems in general svck.......at least when they are designed around a third person perspective. seriously..............the entire game world consists of rooms filled with conveniently placed waste-high objects that "just happen to be lying around" for no apparent reason other than to provide cover for your character. every warehouse looks like it was set up by survivors of a world wide zombie epidemic. either that or the forklift driver had a mental breakdown and wanted to play a life size game of tetris.

im very worried about switching views midgame. i dont mind it in cutscenes but its REALLY annoying when you are in the middle of a game and start switching views back and forth. deus ex was a first person game and they should have stuck with that.

Then we just differ in taste there. I never found using cover in first person all that fun since I render myself blind to an enemy that has the advantage of not requiring the human senses of hearing and eyesight to successfully find and flank me (I don't play online).

And as for the cover placement, I thought it was pretty good in the Vegas games. And yes, I have played a couple of the old R6 games, including the original. Doesn't mean that I'm obligated to hate the new ones because they're more on the action movie side. At least they provide more freedom in combat than the Call of Duty games.

You'll probably be relieved to learn that the 3rd-person cover system isn't mandatory. You can still hide behind cover in first person, though you'll literally just be crouching behind cover. Lean keys may be out but that doesn't mean you can't just use the tried and true method of moving out of cover centimeters at a time until you can barely spot the enemy.

I respect your opinion if you can't live without lean keys, but it isn't a big deal for me.

i stopped after CoD 2........well technically i played 3 but only for a half hour or so before i stopped. i was going to try modern warfar at some point since people said it had a decent singleplayer albeit short but i have soooo many games that i have to catch up on that it will be a while. im looking forward to red orchestra 2 to give me my next WW2 shooter fix. it looks like they have gone back to the roots of what a shooter should be and the blind firing over cover and how they implement sniper scopes looks really nice.

Wow ...

That is a long time :sadvaultboy:

Before this the last I heard was that they were going to be releasing it in April. Oh well, more polishing and maybe even some more extra content never hurt.

I sort of guessed/hoped it would be around August so I could have more money available..

I will.

In an old DX3 interview one of the designers said that they found Deus Ex's gameplay a bit boring/slow paced, so I didn't like that much, but the FAQ is promising. :P

dont listen to him...........he was one of the people responsible for destroying the rainbow six games. the combat was only slow if you explored alot but ive done playthroughs where i just went through the missions and if you do it that way there isnt alot of downtime. deus ex is considered one of the best games ever made for a reason. frankly the only thing that was a major issue for the game was the AI but games still have AI issues 10 years later. i would suggest playing on realistic or at least hard mode since anything less than that is too easy.

the fact of the matter is that had it not been for a VERY loud and obsessive fan base on the forums the game would have ended up being a disaster. if you followed the forums the developers slowly started to backtrack and then made pretty much optional which was not what their original statements said. originally it was a forced cover system which they backtracked from....thank God....and other changes started creeping in.

looks like they are on a good track to being more like the original Deus Ex, but with all the cool extra combat moves.
I love playing stealth, sniping, evading,...., love that crossbow in the video.
My guess is that not every place will be accessible, like in the original, but that's ok.

Hello. I've never played the first Deus Ex, but I was recommended looking into the series if I liked exploration and lore. From what I've seen, it's an action RPG taking place in a highly advanced technological setting complete with biotechnology. I love action RPGs, I love exploration, I love lore, and I love biotechnology. Would you recommend keeping my eye very tightly postioned to watch this game? Was any part of my assumption incorrect and could anyone please go into more depth about the design of the gameworld and amount of content in the game? I would be getting the game for my PS3, if I did get it.

Well none of us know if the game will have everything that made the first one so great until it actually comes out, however it's looking pretty good from what I've seen. We already know that the game will have a ton of stuff to read throughout the gaming world, so it's like the first game in that regard. And the first game was separated into levels, most of which you only visited once or twice, and despite being relatively small, if you snuck around and made sure to check every nook and cranny you could spend an hour or two in each, and even 6+ hours in levels such as Hong Kong. If Human Revolution has this same quality, and is as similar to the first game as I hope it will be, then I'd definitely recommend it to you. But we'll have to wait until August to find out.

The main thing I dislike about the game is its take on stealth kills and the third-person perspective cover system. Other than that, it seems pretty cool. I haven't been following it too closely, though. Are augs permanent? What's with the skills? Why do I know so much about DA, a game which I rightly hold in contempt, but nothing about Deus Ex: Future Past?

Basically, does anyone have a "list of confirmed features" type link?

I wouldn't go that far.

The cover shooting means that they might take the lazy way out and make all levels "cover shooter friendly". This would essentially mean tons of cargo crates... not the most fun to sneak in if all the levels are similar. Still waiting on the link chock full of info, guys. :P

im not usually one of those people that wont buy a game from a developer ever again cause of some bad game they made. i fully realize that even the best developers lay some stinky poo poo once in a while. however, if they [censored] up Deus Ex: Human Resources i will NEVER buy a game from eidos montreal ever again. that is how passionate i am about deus ex. the only other game that i play on an almost yearly basis along with deus ex is vampire bloodlines which will unfortunately never see a sequel. i even put those games ahead of morrowind and baldurs gate 2.

Pre-ordered the PC version of the Augmented Edition at Amazon for the pre-order price guarantee, just incase Square decides to join Activision, EA and Ubisoft with a new $60 price point on PC games (driving AE up to $70) between now and August. I never got around to playing the original, but Human Revolution looks and sounds right up my alley in terms of setting, style and story. I'll play the original before HR hits, but I don't really expect it to impact my hype for this game.

We won't know for sure until it's out, but I think you'd like the first game. You'd have to get it on PC, but it can be bought on Steam easily and pretty much any PC can run it.

i went a little bit bat [insert word for poop here) crazy when i saw the rough release date leaked by the aussies (australia, you have given me much hope for a title in a series i truely adore!)

I'll most likely end up going a mix of combat/stealth (more on sneaky, less on shooty-kill) sense the cloak aug now bypasses security lasers!

And for those who never played any of them, try the first one, you wont be regretting
