Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Thread #2)

Ooh, mind sharing that? I didn't like the original bumpmapping effect, it turned all walls into jelly.

Want that too. The ENB stuff makes me feel like I'm walking into an alien hive every time I enter a building.

Also I was using yellow menus which turned them into one unreadable bloomy mess with the default ENB settings. But I managed to get that fixed somewhat myself. :P

From those pictures, I'd say with the tweaks it's inconsitently on par with the ps2 port.

I still think the PS2 version looks incredibly washed-out. Texture resolution can't be very good on a PS2...

Sure thing. Just copy these values into your "enbseries.ini" file:

The bump-mapping is much less pronounced than with the default values but still looks a little rough, especially on surfaces that shouldn't have it (an all-or-nothing scenario, I'm afraid.) There are also minor lighting artefacts around fires and other moving lightsources, as the bump effect seems to shift (easily ignored, however.) You may also need to change AlternativeDepth from 1 to 0 if you're having trouble with rendering fog - I had to turn it on because of my specific hardware, but other graphics cards will vary (I think it was 8xxx and 9xxx series nVidia cards that needed it on.)

Enjoy! :)

Also I was using yellow menus which turned them into one unreadable bloomy mess with the default ENB settings. But I managed to get that fixed somewhat myself. :P

Some things are still a bit of a bloomy mess with my settings, but I managed to make the menu readable at least. :P

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/report_%E2%80%93_deus_ex_human_revolution_pc_version_actually_outsourced_port

"No. Well, it was done in-house, but with a partnership,” game director Jean-Fran?ois Dugas replied to Shacknews when asked whether or not the PC version of Deus Ex: Human Revolution had been developed in-house.

On the upside, the team that's handling the port – Netherlands-based Nixxes Software – has quite the track record with this sort of thing, having previously worked its technological wizardry on the PS3 and PC versions of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light as well as the PC port of Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days. The studio's billowing resume also includes porting duties on Tomb Raider Underworld and Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.

Well, go Dutchies. Hope it'll turn out alright.

:o

I looked around and apparently the PC port for it was actually pretty decent. It's just the game itself that's horrible. :P

But yeah they could've left that bit out, it's certainly not helping.

The port is good, the game itself is... well, of bad taste. Depends on whether you like third person with a strong HK trash vibe.

They also did the port of Soul Reaver 2 and the new Tomb Raider games for the PC. Seems to me they are quite capable of handling this.

I can handle the highlighting. In Deus Ex I generally tried to explore the entire level anyway, so the worst the highlighting will do is speed up the process (which could still wind up being a bad thing). What worries me much more is the outsourcing of the PC version's development. I wasn't planning on pre-ordering just yet, but I think I'll definitely wait a little while longer until I see some more previews and gameplay videos of the PC version.

My thoughts too, especially since the previews we've seen so far have only been from the 360 version, if I recall correctly.

Damn casual consolised games! How dare they make them accessible and put a border around that huge obvious duct even a grown and hugely muscular man can crawl in! ^_^

Seriously though, I only have a problem with the colour. That's purely subjective. Okay, maybe if the stuff around ladders wouldn't look like they are protected by the shields from Lynch's Dune, that would be the change I'd rather have. ^_^

Actually I think the PS3 one was also shown. I've seen the odd square and circle button here and there.

I think the two elements of your point are at odds with each other. Either this will hardly make the game any more accessible or the ducts aren't that obvious :P

At least some of the 'stealth' section of the trailer appears to feature some non-lethal weaponry. That's nice to see for a change.
I'm definitely going to maintain a wait-and-see approach to this one at first, though.

Hopefully in the "Deus Ex" mode they will completely take out the highlighting. I'm frequently shocked at how many alternative paths there are in Deus Ex. So I don't want every option highlighted for me or else there will be tons of less replay value.

If I remember right the highlight's were only there as it was a dev, and in the shipped game it functions as it did in the original Deus Ex. (Walk up to it, highlights, walk away and it's back to nothing.)
