Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Thread #2)

Post » Wed Aug 18, 2010 11:34 pm

The prequel to the year 2000 RPG Deus Ex, widely considered one of the best games ever made. And then there was this Invisible War game, but lets not spoil the mood.

Info:

You play as Adam Jensen, a man who lives in a world where human augmentation is a very controversial thing. The game takes place 25 years before the first Deus Ex, and the augmentations are not quite to the nanotechnology level that they are in the original Deus Ex's. Adam Jensen, is a man who says he was more or less forced into becoming augmented (both of his arms) and never wanted the life he lives. Like in the original Deus Ex's Adam will travel the world; so far the only two confirmed locations are Detroit and Shanghai. Deus Ex: Human Revolution, is also viewed in a first person perspective but will at times apparently have a third person view.

Expected release is in early 2011.

I'm pretty excited myself. It would be hard for it to match the original game but it sounds like it's going to be good!

When you're trying to fill the Size 15 gunboats that came before you, there's no option but to bring your A game.

Looks pretty good. The only thing that annoys me is that the main character looks exactly like Vamp from MGS.

If it's anything like the first one in terms of story/RPG elements, that game is going to be the bees knees.

I completely agree. I haven't even seen the actual gameplay and I'm sold.

Yeah the extended trailer is awesome! :)

I think I'm going to pre-order it from Amazon UK. I just have a good feeling about it. The Augmented edition is 45 euros, whereas most new PC games are €49.99 in Dutch stores, and that's for the regular edition. The Augmented Edition for the PC, which is supposed to have the same price as the normal version for the consoles, would be €59.99 in Dutch stores. Hurray for the strong Euro and the PC! :D

Heh, I haven't pre-ordered a game since Oblivion.

I just read through http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=86841 and it sounds pretty good. The PC UI is going to be different from that of the consoles, THANK YOU! Hacking is real time and doesn't hide the world, as it should be. Not so sure about the third person cover system but at least it's optional. Regenerating health... We'll see how it goes. The skill system from DX1 is gone but the augmentation system sounds much more advanced.

It also refers to the original DX a lot, and the only reference to Invisible War in the FAQ is 'When it comes to map sizes, think DX1 - not DX:IW.' so that's good. :D

Considering we seen relatively little from the game, I'm not particulary surprised. But yeah, this is a good thing :)

I'm not too upset, the original release date was in March so it's not that bad.

I am definitely buying this game. Seeing the gameplay trailer the other day during the current first steam objective had my eyes glued to my monitor. HR is going to ROCK!

You should see the CGI trailer in the first post if you haven't already, it's epic.

There's also the *Up Yours* option with the Rocketlauncher which is what I believe in. :mohawk: You bring 15 gunboats then you haven't brought enough imho. Was thoroughly impressed with the trailer and bypassed the first couple of games because they didn't appeal to me. This game i'll definitely be picking up if it shows the actual combat, hacking, etc... that is true to the game. Really liked the ability to take weapons and combine them like he did with the RL and gun to make explosive rounds.

I just read through http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=86841

You should put that in the first post. After reading it I'm much more excited for this game. It sounds like they know what made Deus Ex great and are working to implement those qualities into Human Revolution.

I heard that they are making it a pure action/shooter and they're getting rid of the RPG elements. If its as watered down as say Mass Effect 2, then i probably wont even play it. This coming from a huge DE fan.

I agree.

I am starting to really look forward to this, it should occupy a good chunk of space between when HR is released and when Skyrim is released.

I should really play Deus Ex 1, I have it on Steam but haven't tried it yet.

That is not true at all; read the FAQ Povu posted earlier.

I had it on Steam for a while too, and started playing it a few days ago after seeing the extended trailer. I'm now close to 20 hours in and it's my new favorite game ever.

It's like the perfect match for me. I love exploring, and the game rewards you for exploring like few others do. I love having multiple ways to solve things, and the game has that. And I love lore, and the game offers a surprising amount, in the form of books and electronic notes. If that sounds like your type of game, you should really play it.

If it helps, you can use http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1235278 to download some graphics mods for it. I used it and it's nice. I just wouldn't download any of the lighting mods listed there.

I will.

In an old DX3 interview one of the designers said that they found Deus Ex's gameplay a bit boring/slow paced, so I didn't like that much, but the FAQ is promising. :P

I did read it. ME2 was called an RPG...it wasn't. I hope they don't do that to DE.

Just figured I'd post a link to http://www.youtube.com/user/EidosMontreal#p/u/0/dcBhPrFzMpY where they upload "Ask JJB" videos (usually about Deus Ex: HR) ) pretty regularly. There have been some interesting questions and the answers really make it seem like the game is in good hands.

Definitely shows promise. From what I've seen it appears that they might have learned from some of the negatives in Invisible War. Was really hoping to be playing it soon, but because of the almost year long delay I guess that wont be happening. Still, another year of development is never a bad thing.

I still can't get over just how [censored] amazing that trailer song is. Now I need to hunt this down without the voices and action.

I do admit I'm hyped, but I'm trying not to let my expectations soar. This is Deus Ex, after all, one of the greatest masterpieces in gaming history in my eyes. Anything short of spectacular would be an insult to the original.

It's probably best to avoid comparing it to the original too much.

PCGamer have posted part of a http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/02/03/deus-ex-human-revolution-preview-first-hands-on - the rest of their playthrough is still under wraps until February 24th, but so far I like what I'm reading. :D
