Dev Question - Modelling program (and some CK requests)

My first post :)

So, a quick question if I may, what modelling program do the guys use in the office at Bethesda? I'm currently using 3ds Max 2013, but there is no support for Nif Export that is publically available atm. I'm curious, because going from Max -> NifScope (which crashes constantly.. I've been working on a simple bookcase for 2 hours now) -> CK seems very anti-productive.

If I could make a suggestion, you know what would completely rock? The ability to File -> Import -> FBX, 3DS, OBJ files :)

Since I am getting more and more into game/mod design, here's some quick suggestions that I find would make (at least my) life easier:

  • Something that would increase productivity I think is a simple mind-mapping window using a tree-structure. I've started making a simple VB program to do this, but alas, having an all-in-one solution would be ideal.
  • Is it my understanding that Skyrim will have Oculus Rift support? (Please say it's so!!!). If it will, would it be possible to get the CK + game updated pre-consumer release for those of us that own a dev kit? Even if it's by a console command (thus it wouldn't be "officially" supported) would make me jump for joy.
  • UI tools. UI tools. UI tools. Would I be correct in presuming Skyrim uses Scaleform? This would make for creating mods / interfaces for the Rift that much more easier. (I understand that here is SKSE, though I would rather customize the actual UI. Less overhead on my dying machine).

Bethesda GS uses 3DS Max. They use their own exporter which they cant release to the public because of licensing issues. Trust me, its been wanted since Morrowind.

Nifskope can import obj and 3ds files. Though its far from a simple import. There are many good tutorials out there on how to properly do the importing for Skyrim and the Creation Kit.

The CK will NOT be updated. They are done with Skyrim and have moved on. So don't count on any official support for the Oculus Rift.
