Bethesda has kicked some serious butt! Still in the game! Boy though... If it comes down to Blizzard and Bethesda... man oh man.. That will be a good fight! I of course would vote for Bethesda even though Blizzard is really good.. What a showdown!

Edit: By the way... how the heck did nintendo get killed by Mojang AB? Is Minecraft really that awesome? If they beat Epic, then I will have to play minecraft since it already beat nintendo and Bandi Namco. Wow!

Well, I'm doing pretty well so far. I think I'm tied for tenth place (with many others, no doubt) on the official leader board at 65 correct. However that could change if Bethesda doesn't pull through against Bioware...

How are you guys going?

Well, Minecraft has garnered a huge cult following, and it's among a very key group... PC gamers, many of them the so-called 'core' gamers. Which, coincidentally, are just the type of people that visit sites like the Escapist. I mean, ask most of them and they'll admit that Mojang is nowhere near as prolific or successful as, well, ANY of the developers they're facing - their single released game isn't even finished yet, after all. But it is the developer that many of the voters are enthralled with right at this moment, which counts for a lot. It doesn't hurt that they're such a huge underdog, the kind that people love to support against the odds.

(And PS: Minecraft is that awesome... kinda)

Everyone that I have wanted to win has won so far. I'm kind of worried for Epic. I don't know how Majong AB is doing so well. I really hope epic blows them out of the water. And same for me. I don't know what will happen to bethesda if they go up against bioware. I am pretty sure that Blizzard has the left side pretty much cleaned up. But I may be wrong. I am hoping that they go up against square enix. at least then they will have a good competition.


Here is what I will go for-

Right side- If Bethesda keeps going I am routing for them. If bethesda loses, I will be going for capcom. I like bioware, but not as much as capcom. Capom is a classic!

Left side- All in for epic games right now. My second choice is Rockstar because of RDR. If epic loses I will be going for Rockstar. However... I don't think that the companies stand a chance against Blizzard. They are a power house at the moment.

If they do, then I would be kind of annoyed. I mean minecraft is pretty good, but I mean... seriously? Is it all because of PC gamers? Us consol gamers are in the minority of this one. I feel so... small...

To be fair, the Minecraft forum is huge, it's a lot larger than this place. Most of its users are very active too.

If Mojang beats Valve, then it's guaranteed they'll win the whole thing, no matter who they're up against in the finals. Valve gets far in these things because the Escapist is composed primarily of PC players, which is also why Mojang is getting so much support. If these same PC players vote for Mojang over Valve then that's essentially the end of the competition. Personally, I don't mind all that much if they win, Minecraft is an awesome game and this competition is a yearly popularity contest after all, and Mojang has been very, very popular this year.

Though my interest is mainly on the Bethesda v. Bioware match coming up. I'm dying to see how that turns out. Even if Bethesda beats Bioware and Blizzard and winds up losing to Mojang in the finals, I won't mind because they still beat Bioware and Blizzard.

eh true. I will give them that. I know that the Minecraft game is huge right now. I see a bunch of people playing it in my college's cafeteria/student center. I would probably play it more myself if it was compatible with mac. its actually a really good game even though the graphics aren't what I am used to.

They won't be Blizz. NOTHING beats Blizz. Except that one time Blizz lost last year.

Bioware vs Bethesda.... the dual of the two biggest RPG developpers in the market.
Sorry Bioware, I didn't like Neverwinter Nights and even though I love Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Baldur's Gate, I'll have to go with a company that made me love each of their RPG to the fullest.

As for Mojang... sorry but as much I'd like to encourage Indie gaming, I'm going for Obsidian. I don't see myself playing Minecraft in a few years, but I will certainly be playing New Vegas or Fallout 1-2 still.
If Mojang makes it to the finals, they'll clearly win.

I sure hope Bethesda beat BioWare, even if they don't go any further beyond that.

I can't either... despite being logged in, the developers' names on http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tournaments/standings/5 are greyed out, where before I could click them to vote.

The voting was not open until about 36 minutes ago (check the rules tab on that page). they have a 48 hour window of voting each round, then 24 hour period reserved for breaking potential ties.

If Bethesda can defeat Bioware I think they can defeat Blizzard (or Square Enix). It's going to be tough though, Bioware is generally one of the strongest contenders in March Mayhem. I actually suspect they would have won last year if it Valve hadn't been riding the anti-Zynga surge.

I think Mojang is unlikely to win against Valve, but it certainly isn't inconceivable given the moment Mojang has and the fact that Valve doesn't have many recent releases.

However if Mojang defeats Valve I think they'll still be up against some very stiff competition. As a PC exclusive developer there are a ton of gamers out there who simply haven't played Minecraft and while The Escapist has a very large PC base there are plenty of console gamers there as well. If it comes down to Bioware or Bethesda (prominent developers with large console and PC fan bases) and Mojang I would not be surprised to see the PC vote split and the console vote going against Mojang.


The first few years Turbine dominated MM and it was partially because they advertised on their MMO news feeds. Against a single player game, or one without this sort of internet presence, it was hard to compete against. I could be wrong but I don't believe Blizzard does this - and in fact from what I gather Turbine doesn't advertise it as heavily either now.

Although the site is full of Valve [censored]. It's actually scary :ph34r:

Anyway, it looks like Bio will win unless there's a huge community upsurge.
