Developing as a race.

What about whether you're male or female?

Yes! Even if it is some dialogue from an NPC, I would like my race to be noticed somehow.

That is why I really liked the guy in prison across from you in the beginning of Oblivion. He always says something specific to your race and even your gender! =)

Someone get this guy a fishy stick, i can't find the link :(

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/General:Fishy_Stick Welcome to the forums!

I wan't my race to be noticed. I remember there was a Daedric Quest in Oblivion, where the Prince would respect you if you were an Orc, but the Prince and his followers would be mean to you if you weren't. I liked that.
I would like some unique dialogue options.

Maybe even have a slightly higher disposition for people of the same race.
BUT not to the point were NPCs don't talk to anybody that isn't the same race.

Race doesn't define who you are in real life nor should it define who you are in the game.

We're talking about entirely different species here, not skin color and culture.

If we're talking about how NPCs react to you sure, but your race shouldn't limit how you choose to play your character.

Someone brought up cats and dogs. Anyone who has seen many cats and dogs know that even they have their own personalities. There are even cats who act dog-like and dogs who act cat-like!

We are talking about species all of which are as sentient as humans. I don't think the game should shoehorn your character into racial stereotypes. A few bonuses or penalties sure but nothing that should have a large lasting impact on the game.

I think to an extent, from time to time. It would be annoying to be forced into playing a race you don't identify with or have no interest in at all, just to get some quests...maybe a few race-specific quests here and there, but certainly not "a lot".

I'm talking about how NPC's would react to us and comment on us. I would even like some quests to have some different options as well depending on race or gender. For example, maybe if a guild wants you to talk to a male Nord who would only speak to females of a particular race, then a female character may have an advantage or, at least, have an alternative option. =)

Obviously, race stats are going to come into play in terms of starting stats (like all of the past Elder Scrolls games).

I see what you're saying, but I'm really opposed to the notion of having races be better at certain things than others. I feel as though it typecasts my character too much, and doesn't allow me to play it on my own terms. Just because I want to be an Argonian doesn't mean I should have to play a thief, and just because I want to play a Nord or Orc doesn't mean I need to be a fighter. I should be able to have a Nord thief or a Bosmer fighter if I want to, and he should be just as good as a fighter or thief of any other race. Races shouldn't be any different aside from cosmetics, certain quests, perks, and dialogue options IMO.

Yes, you can and should be able to role-play virtually any class regardless of race/species. But it makes sense you'd have a skill/attribute bonus (in other words, a natural predisposition, or tendancy) towards a certain skill. If a species/race is naturally over 6 feet tall, and over 200 pounds.... they are a natural fighter. Obviously it doesn't mean a thief or mage couldn't exist within that race... but they have certain natural gifts that would assist them in certain physical areas, yet you make that sound almost racist when really it's just natural.

I think races should have natural affinities for some things, as they have in the past. However, I don't think they should be forced to be any role. It's as much an aesthetic choice as anything else.

I do like the idea of the game experience changing in as far as you're percieved by the world. Example: Bosmer get treated as thieves (Even if they aren't), until proven twice as trustworthy as anyone else.

With the Radiant World, getting "100% completion" in a single playthrough's impossible anyway, because the entire world reacts to changes even smaller than what race you choose to play at the outset. It's not a case of "You can't take this quest because you're not a member of x race," it's a matter of "Because you are x race, amongst other things, this person has been given this unique quest for you."

I'm skeptical of Radiant World. I believe it will be about as flexible and adaptable as Oblivion's NPC AI was.
