I'm all for trying new game-play mechanism, as long as they keep the game immersive enough, with deep personality of its own and a unique sense of culture, and give me satisfaction enough from developing my characters, give me enough sense of triumph over challenging situations, give me enough content and variety to explore and conquer, give me a world that feels real, in its own coherent reality standards, and challenge me a lot to keep me straggling for the entire course of the game, so that I do not feel "OK, I've done it all. No more challenges for my character." ever.

This would be my ideal role playing game, and in such a game, I'm ready to try any new game mechanism.

Most likely spell-making wasn't removed (if indeed it has been) because it could be exploited. It seems more like it's because the devs are having trouble implementing combinations of spell effects, given the new spell effects and casting options sytems. In short, it's not really about "Ok, let's get rid of this system because it was too easy to abuse and players would ruin the game for themselves", but rather "We don't see how we can get the mechanics of it to work".

I remember in daggerfall, feeling like a god, with the ability to seemingly create anything with magic. Flying, teleportation, the works. With my spell-absorption if I cast a spell I made with an area-at a range close to me, I would absorb my own magic and be able to cast a never-ending flurry of short-range bursts.

Gone.

I remember my house in Morrowind. I had a talking mudcrab merchant, creeper, some naked dancing girls, a mages guild teleporter, and Umbra living there with me. When I left my house, I would often fly over-towns at super-speeds, able to blast away an entire-cities population with one ridiculous destruction spell.

Never again.

I remember in Oblivion creating a pacifist character. I completed all the mages-guild recommendation quests without killing anything myself or with a summon.. usign spells I created at my wizards tower. Some solutions to quests I felt were very inventive. I was able to play quests I had done a million times before in a completely new and challenging way, and they were fun once more.

But I guess I can't do that again.

Not only that, but the poster of the Italian magazine summarization didn't even SAY what magazine it came from!

We can't even confirm ourselves, let alone confirm if ANYTHING the poster was saying was true!

iirc he gave the 3 initials to the mag a couple pages into that thread.

Anyway yeah. I do think I want spell making. But cannot be certain at this point how everything plays out. In fact I will probably need to spend 1-20hrs playing to know what spell making would even offer. Right now the spell system could account for spell power and durations, etc, and could make acquiring spell effects much more meaningful.

Umm this is a petition, that's against the rules of the forums.

On topic, whether or not spellmaking is in the game, the new system of spells they have in the game will give us more static spell combinations than the other spellmaking created.

Personally I don't see why they don't use a spell clashing/diminishing system like a lot of RPGs tend to do these days. It's a simple solution that won't imbalance spellmaking, but also give people the freedom they want.

It's one thing to make a poll to see who wants what, it's another to petition to bring back spellmaking that may or may not be there. From what I've gathered, the info seems a little dubious, and we still lack plenty of the meat of the magic system.

This.

I'd also like to add that it could easily be tied into a skill like enchanting. Enchant paper=scroll. We dont know, thus we should wait and see.

Show that we are humans, and not lemmings for the love of sanity everywhere. We dont' have near enough info to start jumping off the throat of the world.

I vote uncertain. We don't know how the magic is going to exactly shape up, whether alchemy takes up more slack, etc.

Spell making may be indeed less useful in Skyrim if magic is different enough.
