Diablo 3, Has anyone else lost EXTREME interest?

Post » Thu Dec 09, 2010 12:38 pm

Ok i admit it i watch the Skyrim preview trailer 4 times today.

I actually went to Blizzcon 2008 i was first in line, yep that was me and i only went to play the D3 demo. Never played WoW never will.

Now i feel totally different. I really could care less about D3 now, or being extremely generous its been push to a distance 2nd place now with the anticipation for Skyrim.

The graphics, the gameplay, the SOUNDTRACK its like the only game I'm looking forward to i mean reallllly forward to now.....

Anyone else feel the same?

You mean is Skyrim pushing aside Diablo 3 for the rest of us? Or other games in general? Because not everyone here has necessarily been following Diablo 3. I mean, I'm looking forward to it, but I haven't really been following its development closely. And yes, for me, Skyrim is probably the game I'm currently anticipating most strongly.

We're with ya...

My wife and I played Diablo to DEATH when it came out, spent many hundreds of hours in co-op mode having a riot.

With Skyrim coming out, total loss of interest. I have 4 copies of Skyrim on order for the family, so I've already bought my next game - it just isn't out yet. :)

D3 is probably very awesome, this is no discredit to them. But to me, BGS has become THE game studio - every other company is a distant 2nd at best, and that has made a real difference in my purchasing decisions.

Miaximus knows totally what i mean. I waited 10+ years for D3, and in the mean time i came on board with Morrowind loved it, then Oblivion and was consumed by it, still play it, now This...this gift from Heavens Skyrim..... and i just really could careless about D3. I mean i like uniques and all that but im sure uniques will be returning to Skyrim, its just you have to understand how badly i have been waitng for D3 and then Skyrim comes along and its just ..wow, At least Miaximus feels my wounder :)

It's weird. I loved Diablo 1 & 2, but now with 3 I am not excited and I wasn't even before skyrim. I want to like the witch Dr. but the palsy ridden old dude just doesn't grab me, the wizard is anime guy etc. The art direction just doesn't work for me and honestly while yes you couldn't do it in older diablo's not being able to customize my looks at character creation doesn't fly anymore. I could accept that in 96, but not in 2011. And the excuse that they are specific characters doesn't work for me, Mass Effect pulled it off despite the character always being shepard. But I will say I am more interested in skyrim than Dragon age 2, Dungeon siede 3 or ME 3.

Yep! We most certainly do. :)

In my case its the entire family too, wife and both kids Loved Oblivion and even trade around Skyrim quotes and speculation at the dinner table - the anticipation is huge!

The kids are more liberal still (as they should be), and are spending the lean-months in Bakugan Dimensions and other silly/funny games.

excellent points ahglock Dragon age 2 ill be skipping this time around, i saw the direction of DA:O, i hate the engine, cant even set foot in water, blech,, Dungeon siege 3 i might pick up only to pass the time till Skyrim and Duke Nukem Forever only for sentimental reasons, but Skyrim just took the wind out of the sail of any other game i was consdiering. I mean that the greatest single "video" game preview ive ever seen.

I'm the same way too. Battlefield 3 falls close though.

I don't mean to rain negativity but I hate the new art direction of D3 and I still play D2 to this day. I play with mods, Nezeramontias mod and some others on hardcoe. Words can hardly begin to describe my feelings of animosity towards the dev team in charge of the Diablo IP.

Played the original Diablo to death on the Playstation. When I found out what Diablo III was going to look like, I was severely disappointed, as a lot of people are. The art style is too reminiscent of WoW, and that's a bad thing.

Do a Google search of "diablo 3 looks like wow" and see if cranky gamer shows up. I don't like his attitude or his choice of words, but he shows side by side screens of the two games. It's undeniable, they look alike.

Edit: It seems you edited your post before I noticed :)

Only tried Diablo 1 at a friends house many years ago. Had enough after 15-30 minutes, and haven't even bothered watching videos from them since. It's just *sooo* not my kind of game :) But yeah, haven't been much Arma2 with me lately, since this madness started :P

To me, Skyrim and Diablo 3 will fill different gaming needs. Skyrim will likely be for my deep rpg. D3, on the other hand, is for when I just want to mindlessly slaughter hordes of monsters. There's room for both, for me.

DA2 I'll be getting when its on sale. I use steam and their we will put it on steam the day after the signature edition deal expires pissed me off, and the demo svcked. dungeon siege though I am kind of looking forward to, but just as a way to waste time till skyrim. On its own I'd probably be excited for it, it is just coming out the wrong year.

I need to dig up my disks, I was thinking of buying it again since I am lazy and don;t want to dig through a pile of boxes for the disks but the battlechest hasn't really dropped in price it is still like $40 like it was when it first came out. It is worth $40, but the idea of a 15 year old game not being dropped to at least $20 rubs me the wrong way. I am also wary since I don't know if it will work on my 64 bit windows 7 system etc.

I use Windows 7 64 bit and it works, but I have more dubious methods of playing the game since I lost my cds. I mounted an image using Alcohol 120% and it works great (it is patched 1.10 and I use PlugY and Nez mod). Honestly I think it would work fine without a hitch especially if you patch it.

Blizzard has been hyping that game for over two years, and there is still no release date. I lost interest early 2009.

Diablo 3 is a game that craps over Blizzard's own neat little ending just so they can sell more copies of their games. I'm not the slightest bit interested in D3 and I doubt I'm ever gonna play it.

Stories have a beginning, middle and end. When you 'end' it, and then bring it back for another iteration, it has ceased to be a story and is now purely a franchise. Wanting to continue a story for a long time because there's a lot to it (ie The Elder Scrolls) is cool. Beating a dead horse is not.

The lore is getting butchered more than I care to describe. After the world stone was destroyed that should have broken the barrier between hell and earth. Instead "nothing" happened as they claim. And with the three prime evils dead there really isn't much point in calling the game Diablo and then trying to come up with a convoluted story for his return.

The real potential next Diablo game would have been a prequel of the Sin War before the events in Tristram. It would have involved all of the lesser evils and the prime evils battling before Diablo, Meph and Baal triumphed to become the three most powerful. But nooooooo... they had to come up with probably the most disappointing lore I have ever read. This game is like worst case scenario to me. I should probably stop reading this thread, I will work myself up. :sadvaultboy:

Your wife is awesome!

I definitely feel like Skyrim has pushed away my interest in loads of games, even Dark Souls that is comming out the same time as Skyrim got me hyped when it was announced, but Skyrim is going to be very epic. I guess I'll buy both Skyrim and Dark Souls and play online with my friend Dark Souls when he is online and play Skyrim all the other time :)
