Diablo 2: LOD

Post » Mon Jun 07, 2010 5:13 pm

I just finished the game. Is the next playthrough akin to borderlands playthrough 2?

Also I heard people do Baal runs, but after you level up a few more times isn't he just easy to kill?

Online.

After you beat normal you go to nightmare, and after nightmare you go to hell. In Hell you have the best chances to get the best items from Baal runs. I guess, yeah, it kinda is like Borderlands second playthrough, but its way betterer, where Borderlands tried to copy but failed imo.

When you reach level 25 you get good xp from normal baal runs, get to level 40 in normal then transfer to nightmare so in case you want to skip nightmare you already meet the minimum level req. to defeat nightmare baal and move onto hell (lvl 40).

People do Baalruns, Tombruns, Diablo runs and Tristruns for experience.

If anyone needs some items on US East Ladder, let me know or post up before my accounts expire and I loose things.

I can take stuff if you're not gonna use it.

Should I work on golems or skeleton mages after I get skeleton mastery to 20? The mages right now are pretty crappy, but doing a whole new summon seems overkill.

Tell that to the guy who killed me, every creep, and every boss in act one with a single flash of light.

That is easily accomplished using the Paladin's "Holy Shock" aura, which is a legitimate part of the game and certainly not a custom spell. In fact, any character in the game can obtain the Holy Shock aura simply by equipping the runeword "Dream" in a shield and/or helm - the Sorceress is particularly potent with this combination used in conjunction with her "Lightning Mastery" ability, she can actually raise her max melee damage over 50k with good gear. I have such a Sorceress (the Paladin skill Zeal is her primary attack) on closed B.net and I love her. :^)

There is also an exploit in the game which some cowardly players of Amazons use called "Farcast" which allows the Amazon to use her "Charged Strike" ability on players and monsters several screens away from where she actually is. While this is also not a custom spell, it certainly is a cheap exploit that no honest player would use. I bet what you saw was simply the Holy Shock aura, but this might also explain it.

There really are absolutely no custom spells on closed B.net. In fact I've never heard of one in any patch, ever, and I've been around a looooooooong time. There are some pretty cool spells on open B.net, for example characters who can use Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal's spells, and there are also some mods that really change things up (Median comes to mind) that can be played on open B.net. But as far as any of that is concerned, you have nothing to worry about on closed B.net. Nothing like that has ever happened and it probably never will.

The problems I have with closed B.net are: bots of all kinds (spam bots, baal bots, guber bots, all bots!), duping, d2jsp, and hateful people. That's why, when I choose to play Diablo II, I almost always do it in single player. I've now completed the game in single player (all three difficulties) in version 1.12 patch three times, with two paladins and a druid, and I'm currently in act 3 hell with a javazon. By solving and beating the challenges in the single player game, I have developed far greater skills and knowledge of the game than almost anyone I've ever met online. There was actually a time on closed B.net (back in version 1.08 and early 1.09) when players like me were actually something special, rare, and almost respected... now, thanks to duping, bots, and d2jsp, almost any ten year old kid can be "great" at the game in a week so nobody has any appreciation for the real blood n guts of the game.

If I remember correctly -- been a while since I've played -- only the Attract curse cannot be overridden, and so can have one other curse layered over it. All the other curses will be overridden by others.

I'd put some points into clay golem, and I left my skeleton mages at lvl 1. They're pretty useless in Hell, and I just keep them around to poison/freeze enemies. I'd rather put points into Corpse Explosion, which is far more useful (and will be upgraded in the next patch!)

I'm gonna start a druid instead of still playing with the necro on non-ladder.

So there is the reset now, everything is non ladder.

I need access to a computer with Diablo 2 and then I will xfer the items to a separate account and I can give away the items I have on Non ladder.

Yes, I'm going to try it today.

What I've understand, we have finaly change to respec our character skills.
And HR's have higher drop rate now.

But we wont have shared stash in 1.13.

How do you access the higher resolutions. Or does it do it for you?

I forgot to test Diablo yesterday. :(

But what I've read at changelog:
- Support for blit scaling in windowed mode. The game can now be
maximized to the largest 4:3 resolution supported.

And it seems that we can't exploit the Uber Tristram for leveling purposes any more :(

I gotta ask one more time. Who is interested in items on non ladder???

Earlier people said they wanted items but they were on ladder and I was slow to reply.

I need to get around to reinstalling Diablo II (+ LoD). I downloaded patch 1.13 back when the patch released a few weeks ago and when I tried to update something weird happened and basically turned my nice clean installation into a convoluted mess that wouldn't run -- think: taking a lovely picture on an etch-a-sketch and shaking it all up. Anyway, I had to uninstall everything and I haven't gotten around to reinstalling yet (busy playing through the GTA IV: Episodes anyway).

I heard Blizzard banned 300,000 players from batte.net
I had to logon, just to see if anything happened to my account. I do use a character editor for offline play on the train which is totally legal, I just had to be sure.

Mike, editors don't affect battle net since those characters are not stored on your PC. Besides even if yo ucould alter them as long as you use it on single only you're fine. I'm using Her oEditor for some time now since I play single for like 8 years and I really needed more convenient way of transferring stuffed characters' stuff to mules. I don't have mules now at all, I have all items in folders :P

For those who wanna know exact changes (well, most important ones) here they are:
Each Den of Evil quest besides +1 skill you also get reset option which gives you back all skill and attribute points so you can change your character (useful since some builds are weak until high lv like hammerdins, I simply used holy shock and all it's synergies and when that was starting to get weak (end of nightmare) I simply reset)
Also each boss on hell now gives a charm (no effect) with effect x essence of x (x is different from each boss, like burning essence of hatred). When all those are found they can be mixed into another charm. Now that part I haven't checked yet, but I heard that charm gives you infinite number of resets. So this might not be true.
Also, enemies are toughened, but are some character skills as well, + many skills got new synergies.
And yes, high runes are now much often drop.
Radius of exp got from party kill is reduced (so don't go far from party) and some other exp related stuff are more strict, which is already mentioned (as in no uber leeching abuse).

Unfortunately they still haven't solved the problem with cheating retarded bot users (sorry if you're using one, but you're a cheater and I don't respect you) which resulted in over 100 of players from each class on lv 99 only 2 days after ladder reset. And of course there are still commercial bots there, and for some reason these days connection it utterly bad. Fortunately, I heard they made one method of rune duping impossible, so that's at least one good news.
