Did anyone die during the 60 minutes play-session?

Post » Tue Aug 09, 2011 6:47 am

I read the articles, no one mentioned dying. In that case it could either mean the following:
  • They got powerful characters from the very start (which is kinda weird because Howard has set their characters around 30 minutes from the start of the game... though there're always console commands).
  • The game is mostly easy... (which I doubt, but then again there ARE dozens of draughr fighting against us at the same time, and at the same time we're supposed to win against them...)
  • They couldn't die. Due to the fact that they only have 60 minutes to experiment with Skyrim.
  • They did die, but they didn't bother mentioning it...

What do you think?

Gonna go ahead and say no one died, because there was nothing to challenge them.
This was not Skyrim. This was a demo of skyrim, not the entire game. So not everything was in it.

im betting they had it on normal mode which means its pretty difficult to die even if you try. what i hope isnt the case is that the game is like assassins creed where even on hard mode its uber easy. i dont want to be rolling through hordes of enemies anihilating armies as i go along. thats not even epic gameplay that is just boring gameplay.

I've never played a Bethesda game where hard mode was even playable, let alone easy. Do not fret.

No one died and i'm sure Beth didn't want anyone too. Probably one of the reasons they disabled Dragons.

I've read that one person nearly died but had to use some healing spells/potions in order to survive. But I don't think anyone actually died during their demo. I probably wouldn't want to die, because that would mean my demo is over.

Oblivion was unplayable on hardest difficulty due to the player dying from boredom after painting a random enemy with his sword for the past 5 hours.

They also mentioned that they removed the dragons and dragon shouts from their demos. At least, one of them did. I don't remember which one. They were also removed from a cave after their character creations and didn't mention anything about being led to an execution, which would insinuate that they didn't have to do the tutorial. Considering the fact that those three things were seemingly removed, it wouldn't be surprising that other things were added or removed, making it harder for them to die or have their short time of trial game play interrupted.

I would have tried dying a lot, just to see if enemies can do kill animation on the player as well. Imagine dying against a dragon and it doing that chew and throw thing it does with the guard :P

I don't know what version of Oblivion you were playing that it was possible to so much as exit the tutorial, let alone take on one enemy for five hours without unlimited potions of healing.

I remember reading either that someone did die or that they came very close to dying (and to paraphrase what little I can remember)..." had to heal at the last possible second".

No, it was only for the press and other gaming websites.

Todd Mode.

That's basically it. 999 health, 999 mana and 999 fatigue makes it a bit difficult to die.

Beth disabled Dragons for the hour of gaming in the Skyrim Demo. All it happened to be was an introduction to the game, nothing more. Nobody died because they only got through a third of the main quest!

I remember in a Fallout 3 gameplay demo a few years ago that the player was in God Mode because of course they wanted to showcase the game not spend most of the time opening containers for loot and then going to a merchant to trade.

On top of getting a full suit of iron armor and some weapons and spells it's also safe to assume they got a few health items as well.

The reviewer at Kotaku mentioned that he died near the end of his playtime. He stumbled into Bleak Falls, and was killed by the undead.

I'm certain they made things easier for the demo.

Hopefully the actual game will be closer to Daggerfall than Oblivion or Morrowind in terms of difficulty... where you can die numerous times in the tutorial dungeon if you don't know what you're doing.

I want the game to be brutal starting out. That adds so much satisfaction to the game when you actually progress and become powerful.
