Did anyone else NOT enjoy the thieves guild questline?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 1:48 am

Sure all the gold, loot, and nightingale armour was nice but why did we exactly promise our souls to nocturnal?or have to do dozens of petty thefts to become guildmaster?
the whole "your soul will be thiers for all eternity" was never something I had any love for,I dont want to serve Sitis,or Nocturnal...and because of the race I choose theres no real chance I'll get to Sovangarde
I am nitpicking the details, but honestly Bethesda why no famous "door number 3"? quests in previous games always had another option

The Dovahkiin promises his soul to a different entity at least every day.

It was the best guild questline, but even then, it was horrible in comparison to Oblivion's. I was expecting epic and tension filled heists, in Skyrim, I felt like a whipping boy.

I enjoyed it except for one thing... the lead in.

In Oblivion if I recall correctly, in order to even contact the guild you had to be in the right place at the right time.
It wasn't easy, it felt dodgy and 'underground' skulking around the docks at night looking for that dude.

But in Riften... I literally had just walked in the door and it was like "hey you! We're the thieves guild, wanna join?"

Out of all guilds, with the exception of the DB, the thieves guild should be hardest to find.
They're not supposed to exist!

But once I got over that I enjoyed myself, always play a thiefy kinda dude in TES games. it was nice to get back on the job. ^^

Dovahkiin is such a [censored] liar. The Gods are gonna be pissed when they find out.

Seriously? Give a beggar $5 and they'll tell you where they are, right behind that wall thingy in the water district.

And, in Oblivion, you were basicly the reincarnation of Robin Hood, not a "thief."

You know, that would actually be a badass concept for a DLC... you have died, now the battle of the gods for your soul has begun.
Who will decide your fate? Who will you choose to fight for? Or will you deny them all? What damnation and/or glory awaits you?

Who cares if we're Robin Woods or not. We are free to interpret our characters like we want. I actually prefered the quest line in Oblivion.

2nd best guild questline behind the Dark Brotherhood. Nightingale Armor set is good but overrated. Ironically enough only guild to have level scaled items. :brokencomputer:

On topic... the Theive's Guild questline is annoying to me. The main Theif questline isn't bad (its actually pretty interesting, which is more than I could say for the overly cliche College of Winterhold questline), but it only gives you two of the Theive's trophies/achievements. The other guild questlines give you all three within their main story, but the Theive's Guild requires you to do a bunch of stupid random missions in order to do other specific bigger missions in order to work up to the last damn trophy. Its stupid, and its potentially broken, especially if you have bad blood in any of the holds (for example, Markarth doesn't like me, and its glitched in a way that I can't do anything about it, so doing anything there has become rather difficult). Its overly complicated in comparison to every other guild questline, and it didn't need to be. I could understand it if the main Theif questline was shorter, but it wasn't. Basically, the Theive's Guild is the bane of my existance, atm, and I'm losing the fun factor for the first time since I bought the game (I'm 80 hours in), and its all their fault.

I definitely agree with you about the side jobs, that was a stupid design choice to have so many be required in order to do the special jobs. You have to do 5 and if your not careful you'll be doing one for Riften or someother city that you already completed the special job for.

Yeah I was let down by how roped into the guild you were. I love my Nightingale Armor, and the quest line was fairly decent, but still I very much felt roped into it via the MQ, which forces you to work for Brynyolf and thus get introduced to the guild. And then yeah forced to become a thrall of Nocturnal was really annoying.

I had some fun with it but I am increasingly fed up with the faction quest lines in that I am playing a sandbox RPG where I am supposed to be free to make my character how I want and the writers force all these sick little changes on you in them... I don't want to be a werewolf any more than i want to sell my character's soul for lucky loot tomorrow, I want more door number three without being forcefully type cast like that.

I really enjoyed the questline. I didn't find any of the quest rewards to be very good but my thief character is an enchanter so I guess that's normal. I really wish there were two options for disenchant: 1. Remove enchants and learn the enchantments item is destroyed 2. Remove enchants don't learn them and item is not destroyed

I didnt like the way you joined the guild (you dont need to join to progress the main quest as you can get esbern location from the innkeeper) or the way the npc talk to you as you progress through the questline. The guys in the cistern all have the beginnings of a good backstory but all the information ends as if the second half of their bio was torn out.

Shoehorning my character into promising their soul to nocturnal is fine as I already owe it to nearly all of the other daedra and I think there will need to be a royal rumble to sort out who gets me. The things you achieve for the guild dont actually change anything for any of the npc and the only change to the location is the stuff on a wall. Even the crown was a non event as its not explained ingame what the benefit was (it makes you find more gems as loot)and merely sits on a bust near the wall and is never mentioned again. The things that are revealed during the quest chain arent ever resolved and whats behind the locked door doesnt change once the whole deal is corrected.

The bonus quests after completing radiant quests werent great for me as I was wondering why I was working for these guys most of the time.

My friend loves the questline and we have talked several times about why it worked for him and maybe he is in the playerbase the quests were designed for.

I don't know what to say about the thieves guild actually. I enjoyed it, sure, but I feel like there wasn't enough thieving in the main questline. I was hoping to get to steal something crazy, and at the end prepare for a grand heist like at the end of Oblivion's thieves guild where you steal an Elder Scroll!!!

This time I'm bound to go to Nocturnal's realm when I die. And HELL! I'm already destined to go to Hircine's hunting grounds, AND Sovngarde (although I am a Breton, so maybe I wouldn't go to Sovngarde). Azura also wants my head on a pike, and I'm sure Sithis will want his fair share when I am dead. Molag Bal and whatever the Lady of Whispers' name is as well. I'm just so darn popular, aren't I?

I was hoping for something like the Gray Cowl too, but I can understand why they would take it away.

I did NOT like pledging allegiance to Nocturnal like I did. I only did it because Brynjolf did as well. I wanted to steal something epic. I feel that this time around, the Dark Brotherhood took the role of "the plot of the century".

I found the whole pledging to Nocturnal funny. I was under the impression as a werewolf I would be nommed up by Hircine. Then I did the thieves guild and I was like "Uhh. . .sure, whatev'. Nocturnal is hot" and went on with that. I really didn't think anything of it until I did Meridia's quest and she was all "Will you go forth in my name, etc etc?" and I was like "Wut? Uh. . .you'll give me a nice sword if I say yes, right? Yeah, sure. Whatever, crazy lady." XD

DB quest line is the best by far imo

the civil war could have been great, but they just needed more work on the battle for the cities

random guards just appearing, no real sense of accomplishing anything

I didn't' really care for the companions either

so for me it goes: DB was great, thieves guild and mage's college were okay, companions and civil war could have used some more time

havent done the bards yet

i see WHY it was like the Oblivion QL i like the fact u are there and u seem to be the only one able to do things right without random weird [censored] happening and getting ya in trouble.that was cool. BUT DAMN how many people am i selling my soul to in this game.............thank god im a vampire, hopefully wont have to worry about it for awhile, maybe ill figure something out to get me off the hook while the gods are waiting forever.

I didn't really miss having more options. I just hated where they went with the quest line. I enjoy big heists, getting into places that are impossible to get into, sneaking past a large amount of guards. I want to steal something that is worth A LOT. I want people to talk about what just got stolen. I was so disappointed in the thieves guild words cannot explain it... :sadvaultboy:
