There was a Wakizashi in Fallout 2, I don't imagine this being too bad. They could be changing it to become a wakizashi though....you never know...
I haven't found the Wakizashi in Fallout 2 yet. Although that picture (New Vegas, not 2) is much too tall to be a wakizashi. Essentially, a wakizashi is just a short katana though. Not that much better. To be honest, the sword that would make the most sense in New Vegas would be a Kopis, because of Caesar's Legion.
