Did anyone find the start of the game to fast

Post » Sun Nov 29, 2015 7:53 am

Spoiler

The vault section was what 15 minutes long... it just seemed to quick. I was hoping to at least see more happen in the vault like FO3.

I think it pushes the start to fast.

I get that alot of people like to just get into the wasteland to do their thing but just too fast

Maybe a little, but considering how much i'll be playing this, it's just a good thing.
While Fallout 3's beginning sequence was good, it was too long.

I thought it was a good length for getting you started in the game. Fallout 3 was too long and drawn out, in my opinion. That said, after getting out of the vault in F3 the wastelands did feel a lot more epic. But then, you started in the vault too, where as in F4 you're starting in Sanctuary, the vault being a detour. No, I liked it. It wasn't the same as F3, and that's fine.

When you start the game, always go by a two save starting plan. Save at the end of the vault when you have your last chance to edit your character and perks, and then save once more when you're finally out in the wasteland. That way when you want to start over, you can always load up your end of vault save and make a new character from scratch or if you like your character's appearance as is, load up the save when you first get out to the Wasteland so you don't have to do character creation again. I haven't played Fallout 3's overly long prologue ever again because of this. Keep the save at the end of the vault forever, so it's always there to load up and start over a new character without doing the prologue again.

I must admit I thought it was a bit ridiculous that the rep comes to the door to sign you up to the vault and literally 2 minutes later (how on earth did he get back in time to hand in and process the paperwork) the nuke alarm goes off and you're running for the shelter? How convenient. Anyone else find it hilarious that the sales rep wasn't allowed in the vault 馃槀馃槀馃槀馃槀 I was cracking up

See I disagree. It gave your character more history, it developed your story better and gave you a more emotional connection to your dad since it showed you growing up with him.

FO4 is just not as good in that respect

Imagine if the nuke was all part of his marketing scheme to get people into the vaults lol. He's the real villain.

It's a fight no gamedeveloper can win. One of the main critisicm of FO3 & Skyrim was the long sequence at the start.

"Do I have to go through that again, I only want to play the game..."

So yes it was taken back a bit as compromise and now we read:

"I think it pushes the start to fast." .

That was a complaint for Skyrim? LOL! It's only like a ten to fifteen minute prologue. It's the lead up to the execution, Alduin attacking, and a short maybe five minute dungeon and that was it. People considered that long? The prologue for Oblivion was way longer and if you took your time to really explore the prison dungeons and loot stuff it could take anywhere from forty minutes to an hour. I don't see how a main complaint for Skyrim was the intro considering it wasn't anywhere near as long as Oblion or Fallout 3. I'm sorry but that's a completely idiotic complaint over something that isn't even true.

I think it was too short, you didn't get to know people and thus had no reason to care about what happened to them, I can understand why they'd want to keep it short but maybe giving players an option to skip it would have been a better way to go about it.

He did say that you'd already been allocated space though. But yeah, rather fortunate he knocked on the door when he did!

Well, you know how at the end of the vault you have a last opportunity to edit your character and perks? Just save the game there and keep that save forever, so whenever you do start over, you can just load up that save and create a new character without doing the prologue. So it actually is skippable after the first time you play the prologue.

I wish the vault life was longer, but I'm glad I got to see parts of it that I didn't in fallout 3 like what happens when you first enter it instead of just being born there.

Except this time around you only get 6 saves and autosave overwrites the oldest manual save

Well I only have three manual saves. The one at the end of the vault before the last chance to edit your character, my save for when I first started the Wasteland, and my main game progress save. I don't need six saves when I just overwrite the save I'm using to progres through the game. So I don't have to worry about auto-save deleting any of it.

It's what I always do, I use the console to make a named save, I did the same for Oblivion, FO3, NV and Skyrim.

I agree. Honestly I thought there would be a scene at the vet hall hearing the male PC giving 'the speech', and the bombs would drop the next day. Would have loved to have seen more of the 'pre-war' world if for nothing else to give us a better understanding of everything the SS lost.

I quite liked it from a story telling perspective. All those insane events happening in what FEELS like 20 minutes to the main character.

I don't think it was short. I mean New Vegas' is only a few minutes medical profile and pre-game cut scene before you can walk out completely.

I think they're aware people are already somewhat familiar with Fallout so there's less to explain compared to FO3.

If you check the wiki, it is suggested that Vault-Tec actually started the Great War to ensure that the vaults got used. So therefore it is possible that this guy knew how close they were to hitting/launching. That would entirely explain the his anxiousness...

I assumed it was automatically uploaed and process as soon as the data was entered on his pad. Their names were already on the list just a data entry tick,

Besides they wanted bodies for their experiment, its not like the vault guy was doing them a favour.

I thought it was pretty dead on.

I find it extremely annoying when a game starts out with too much exposition before giving me freedom to explore on my own. It's like keeping the training wheels on your bike for a week after you don't need them anymore.

No I hated hanging around the house for 10 minutes waiting for a bomb to go off, it was boring.
