Did anyone have this when you first played Fallout

Post » Sun May 05, 2013 7:50 am

Well yes, BGS was responsible for the core mechanics and the engine, that New Vegas runs on. Which is why Obsidian was given only a year I believe to make New Vegas.

Edit: You should really check out this vid by Brian Fargo and Inxile. Especially when he speaks to the publishers.

It gives you an idea of how little publishers know of todays mature gamer.

Let me tell you a story.I love Old Fallouts. I loved infinite Engine games. Baldurs Gate, Torment, Icewind dale just to find NWN and neverending multiplay in Web. Than someone told me "I don't understand why you like NWN so much. Morrowind is better in every area." Than I started to look after Morrowind. I read about how huge is that game and I decided to buy it. At first I was dissapointed. I was walking on empty locations without fights or any characters and even with people on road they never actual tell anything to story. But after months I decided to play again this time in diffrent style... and it worked. Locations became much more interesting I was more into plot and finally I could finally understand rules of this world.

When I find out that Bethesda will create Fallout 3 I wouldn't be happier. "This is the best what can Fallout get" I said. Even now I regret what I said.

Fallout 3 started with really good scene of birth. Buut after few hours of gameplay 'deja vu' was sitting next to me. There are so many places to explore but almost every location looks exacly the same. I hated metro levels, I hated that supermutants and ghouls became stupid creatures just make player no guilty to kill them. In next 2 hours I finished the story with "Really thats all?". After that I started new game with new character and this time... it was even worse. All my skills my SPECIAL points became exacly like in previous character. Gameplay didn't change at all. Still I was wandering wastelands for no reason, shooting everything what can move. I came back to Fallout 2 and that game became even better than I could remember. My every choice, my characters and my type of weapon everything was more important.

After years I heard about New Vegas. "It will be like Fallout 3 but with diffrent story."

It is gonna be made by Obsidian. "Those guys from genius Kotor2?"

It is gonna be political story. "No, save me hero from bad guys? AWESOME!"

It is... "I'm not care. If this game is gonna be closer to previous fallouts I'm gonna be fan of it."

And the Lord said "Vegas must be done" and it was.

I loved that game from first to last page of script. Story was mature without Father who thinks the best option to grew up son is letting him kill mutants. Marcus was back, Brotherhood was back, Enclave was back, NCR returns stronger than ever. Legion finally came out with really depth story.

After that DLCs came along.

Dead money:

People before: "This game is too easy there is no big mutants"*seven years old boy voice* People after: "This [censored] is unbeateble"

Yeah I loved every sector finally i got reason to lift every garbage.

Honest Hearts:

"No ghost here... no ghost... WAS THAT A GHOUST?"

Campside? Love it.

Old World Blues:

"WTF was that? I WANT MORE!"

Lonesome road:

Me: Did I do this? Yes I did, to people in Devide, to Mutants in Cathedral, to Enclave on Poseidon Oil. They wanted just saver world for their children. What have I done?

It is really easy to blame Bethesda what was done but without Oblivion would be no Fallout 3 and without Fallout 3 there would be no New Vegas.

PS

Nuka Break

Bethesda Reaction: Don't make money on our product!

The only Fallout game i liked at first was Fallout3. Nice music, nice graphic with a bit of Fallout touch, made by Beth creators of Morrowind with i loved, everything was amazing at first. Sadly after a few hours of gameplay i hated these game with passion.

Was slighly sceptical with NV, but later on i liked the game.

I just found what you originally put quite confusing, and was asking for clarification.

Fair enough. Reading it again and it does look a bit of a mess. The point I was trying to make is that the the "freedom" was excessive because it denied all tangible consequences and possible branching (because everybody had to be able to do everything at any point). I didn't like it back then, I don't like it now either.

I hated Fallout 3 at first. Then, after a while, I played it again. And liked it a lot.

FNV was love at first sight.

Then I tried FO1. Hated it. After a while, I tried it again. Hated it. Today, I tried it again. Hate it ;)

With Skyrim - it was awesome at first. But the more I played it, the more I realized how bad the game is - no interesting NPCs, most quests weren't interesting (loved the Dark Brotherhood part a lot). I'm currently replaying New Vegas for the 4th time and I love each second of it. I'm really worried about FO4 and cannot wait for Fallout: Something from Obsidian.

Fallout 3 was the first Bethesda game I'd played and I played it in 8th grade. I thought it was amazing. The extent of my gaming at that point was playing games on my brother's PS2, particularly Hitman, and his Dreamcast and Gamecube years before that. I had also just gotten a gaming PC, so it was one of the best things ever. I was basically beside myself. I sort of got burnt out on it for a while, and then I got Oblivion, which I never got into completely. I tried time after time to do play it, but I never got very far. They then announced New Vegas while I was a freshman, so naturally I was extremely excited and started playing Fallout 3 to death again. I started branching out with my gaming choices and eventually started to noticing the severely limited aspects of the game. I decided to check out Fallout 1/2, which was difficult at first to get the hang of, but very rewarding. I still played Fallout 3, but not with the same reverence. New Vegas seemed to have what I now wanted after playing the originals, so I just eagerly awaited it and speculated on these forums. I haven't played Fallout 3 once since New Vegas came out, and I haven't stopped playing New Vegas. I will play Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas but I doubt I will ever play Fallout 3 again. I just don't like it anymore, at all. With Skyrim, I just wanted to see what I can maybe expect from Bethesda's Fallout 4, and I enjoyed it for a while until it just stopped being enjoyable. I picked it up around last November and was really enjoying it, but the same thing happened. I'm just exceedingly indifferent about it now.

tl;dr

Love Fallout 3, grew to dislike it.

Wanted to love Oblivion, but was meh and not worth playing to me.

Loved Fallout 1/2 and still do.

Loved New Vegas and still do.

Indifferent about Skyrim, sort of liked it, was indifferent again, and then I was really enjoying it after a while, and not I'm indifferent once more.

Wow you were in 8th grade when FO3 came out? God I'm old, I was 28 then. But anyway you are proof that one doesn't have to be a gaming relic like myself, to enjoy the originals.

Fo 1, 2 and Tactics are 3 of my all time favorite games.

FO 3 I loved at first, but now it is just alright. I don't hate it, but I bothered by a few things NV fixed that improved gameplay, and I am bothered by some story aspects that are just horrible. Little Lamplight, KoSing Enclave. KoS Talon Company. Zero communication with raiders, Enclave, Talon Company. Poor use of speech, which imo if you lack the skill the option should not even appear.

NV I like way more than 3 and I probably have played more than 1 and 2, even though I have never beat the game.

I had that happen with F3. Rented it and was about to take it back, but figured it could wait until the next day to return it. kept playing and around big town, something clicked and i couldnt stop playing. beat it, returned it and bought the survival edition. I played it almost exclusively for about 2 years after that, putting several hours a day into it.

When NV dropped, i was expecting to get pulled in in the same manner. While i enjoy it and still play the hell out of it, NV just wasnt the same for me.
Stories were great, Crafting, NPC quests; also great. But the crashes, bugs and invisible walls turned me off a bit.

I am desperately hoping that F4 takes the best of both of these games and forces them into a shotgun wedding of awesome.

I realize it is supposed to be a slam against F3, but with all the "F3 is oblivion/skyrim with guns" talk touted around the boards, i figured i would give skyrim a chance.... after about 20 hours, i decided that this comparison was inaccurate at best. Havent played skyrim since.

Yeah bugs in all 3 and NV bother me, and makes me question the modern gaming q/a teams or whatever they call them. They really nees to dish out some nondisclosure agreements and get some fans and hardcoe gamers as testers.

I really am not an NCR fan and I didn't like how they all over the place off the get. Also didn't like how if I joined BoS my death rampage on NCR would lead to nothing. "Hey guys, Helios is....empty. Oh and operational with a death ray..."

Yep. I'm going to graduate in less than a month now. The originals have inspired me to play Arcanum and eventually Planescape: Torment when I get the chance. I backed Project Eternity and cannot wait for Wasteland 2 as well. There are definitely gamers my age who can appreciate good games without the need for flashy graphics and uninspired, obvious storytelling.

I would figure they would have gamers as testers, isnt that pretty standard?

I'm sure they are. I am implying they are not very good at their job. And maybe not good gamers...

That's cool. I have cousins that are your age and love FO3. But when I try to tell them about Fallouts 1&2, they usually respond with: "There was a Fallout 1&2?" They seem not to recognize there's a 3 in Fallout 3.

They likely relate the number to something else than sequeldom. Like how District 9, or Slaughterhouse-Five, or Fahrenheit 451 are to be understood as titles.

better than a guy in one of my classes.... we had talked about xbox games a lot before, he seemed like an amature really. said he played FO3 and the ones before it, but not NV. I was like 'you've played one and two?!' he was like 'yeah..'

I had a sneaky suspicion so said 'what platform did you play it?' and he said 'xbox :S' as if I was stupid!!!! lol

I said 'that's funny, since it's not on xbox...' got kindve awkward first, then he got defensive (and by that I mean he actually said "yeah it is" and got one of his friends to back him up by saying I said one and two didn't exist :l). what a loser :D

I first started BGS games with Oblivion. I got incredibly bored quickly. After that I received Fallout 3 by mistake, played it and absolutely loved it from the start, I ended getting a couple hundred hours in my first playthrough and proceeded on with two more. Afterwards however I played Fallout 1 and 2 and quickly lost interest in Fallout 3. I still play Fallout 2 now, however I can't for the life of me get into Fallout 3 anymore. Once I popped in New Vegas it was like playing Fallout 3 from the beginning. I've put several playthroughs into it, however I wasn't a huge fan of the cowboy scene. Now I'm going through Fallout withdrawals and am hoping for a Fallout 4 confirmation at E3.

I assume New Vegas is to much of an rpg for their taste. I think the reason why they like FO3 cause it's more fps thsn rpg, in that there's plenty of things to shoot at in DC. In DC you have a lot of raiders and super mutants all over the place. In New Vegas you can travel safely, aside from powder gangers and a few jackals, if you stick to the roads that is. When they asked me if there was a Fallout 1&2. I never mentioned the series ever again in their presence.

Also one can't blame the younger generation of not knowing about a franchise that began 16 years ago. It was Interplays mismanagent of their company, that caused many gamers to forget about Fallout.

Well atleast he had common sense in knowing, you can't make a part 3 without having a parts 1 and 2.

You can most definitely blame them for not knowing that a number in a title indicates an entry in a series.

I never said my younger cousins were bright. But yes, even if one was a toddler or infant when the first Fallout came out. It's common sense that fallout 3 had two previous predecessors.
