Did Bethesda pick a bad release date?

Post » Sat Aug 20, 2011 10:47 am

I'm not sure, but they announced MW3's release date after Bethesda announced Skyrim, so should Bethesda just back away because of that?

Skyrim can take on all and win, so that isn't a problem.

The release date is bad though, it should have been 8/19/11.

Unfortunately for Wii owners Skyward Sword is going to be the last game that matters for this console.
Wii hasn't seen an AAA title since last year's Fall, and Zelda will be the last game of this console.
Most Wii owners keep them in the corner collecting dust. I think that a part of them have already forget about Wii and is looking for Wii U from now and on,while another part of them will just pick it to own the last game of the console.
But it's highly possible that Nintendo will release a Wii U port of S.S. shortly after Wii U is out.

I also have a Wii and I like Zelda games, but I'm playing Skyrim first and by the time I get bored of Skyrim, Mass Effect 3 will already be out so I will jump at it.
Probably I might some time get S.S. if I find it at a lower price one or two years after it came out.
Skyrim just has more dungeons, larger world, more quests, better A.I.,graphics,music,and the list goes on...
I've been following Zelda since Ocarina of Time, but this time....

That's not true. Dragon Quest X will be a Wii game and that matters.

In terms of sales? I doubt it.

BF3 and MW3 will dominate sales.

Do you think it would've been tasteful if Battlefield or Modern Warfare was released on this day? Because i'm sure they would've taken it as the ultimate marketing date for a game like theirs.

its controversial 11th of november is a day of remembrance to those who fought for are existence in WWI ,so yes to release a world war based game on this date would be in bad taste

I think Demon Souls (release date: 10-11-11) would be more of a competition then COD.

Its a good release date imo. COD will always sell well, its COD after all, love it or hate it. I dont see Skyrim having any problems with the 11-11-11 release date. Those two games really have entirely different fan bases. Lots of people will probably pick up both MW3 and Skyrim. I will admit I do play a bit of COD, not so much anymore, though. I did play Black Ops quite a bit. I may even end up buying MW3, but obviously Skyrim will be the game that takes up most of my playing time for many months to come after 11-11-11.

Hohoho. Seems like you're not up to date with the tides.

BATTLEFIELD 3 IS THE NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN.

:celebrate: :foodndrink:

And that comes out in October, still soon before skyrim. I think if someone wants to get skyrim, they will regardless or at least wait a bit to save up some money.

I will buy Arkham City that comes out two weeks before Skyrim. However, after that I will only buy Skyrim and play it till maybe somewhere around new year and THEN I can go and get mw3 etc.

Couldn't agree more.

@Gromm Publishers aren't going to not release games in November because of CoD. It would be pretty ridiculous if that month was exclusive to that series.

Wait I just realised this:

Call of Duty obviously has only 3 days worth of playtime so by the time you finish playing it to death, Skyrim will be coming out.

Multiplayer aspect will keep you going - when it comes down to it I am not purchasing any FPS becuase that is all i have been playing all year and I am sick of them

Yup, though it lacks a sheriffs badge (no in-game server browsers for PC). RO2 is were it's at. :intergalactic:

Those people probably put MW3 3 days ahead of Skyrim because they felt threatened because the game may look more appealing to the CoD playerbase, so naturally they junkpunched and put their game, revealed after skyrim, ahead of it to try and get their playerbase to buy them first and not bother with skyrim, but in the end it'll just end up the same. The more intelligent people will see that it's just a cheap knockoff like BlOps was and will play a game worth playing, whereas the stupid people that want to try and look cool by shooting terrorists will continue to shoot virtual terrorists.

Both MW3 and Skyrim will do very well sales-wise. I will most likely be buying both. Skyrim I will obviously get on release day, and MW3 I might pick up a few weeks later.

There is alot of great looking games coming out through the months this year. I wont be buying BF3 (or MW3), but I will be purchasing: Deus Ex Human Revolution (out around the corner, and looking very good), and Rage.

Both out a few months ahead of Skyrim. This has not detoured my excitement or from pre-ordering the CE addition of Skyrim.

BF3/MW3 and Skyrim are very different games, most (not all), BF3 type players wouldn't be purchasing Skyrim anyway. Again not all, as seen in this post.

This is an awesome year for games all around, wont be enough time to play them all right away, unless I won the Lottery :celebration:

well, it is kind of a bad date but i won't be buying MW3, every year it just the same game with diffrent guns... no real improvement
BATTLEFIELD 3 IS THE NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN.

maybe? I don't play much online... does the battlefield have a better single player and split screen gameplay?

There will be alot of competition this time around. There are ALOT of major releases around the same time. In my opinion this is a good year to be a gamer.

i couldn't agree with you more.

I think the fact that that they chose an International Holiday to release the game to be a far more risky fact than MW 3's release date.

Or did everybody forget about Veteran's/Armistice day?

I would assume the release date clashes as Skyrim offers a good alternative to those that don't like online FPS. It is like when blockbuster movies get released you normally only get art house movies released at the same time, for those that hate the Micheal Bay etc.

The release dates might clash, but like someone pointed out, both games are completely different so it shouldn't even matter.

COD svcks and needs to die already. I don't care if COD sells more, it's obvious Skyrim is the better game and not a piece of trash that was poorly built in a couple days including no new features and has a [censored], boring story with tons of explosions like always.

Ummm mkay...

I wasn't saying Bethesda should release it in another month, I was just saying that they would have more sales if Call of Duty wasn't released in the same month.

And they would have more sales if Saints Row The Third, or Uncharted 3 weren't releasing in the same month. Unless a Publisher can release a game in a month where no other game is being released (which will never happen), they're always at risk of losing sales.
