Ah Mr. Glargg, I was going to suggest something of the sort for the Next Round....We have done Legendary...Adventuring... We have done a few Nekkid Nord Challenges, but they were small things...mere games! But to lvl the playing field... I thought a round devoted to the Scavenger! Everyone at the same low difficulty.

But if you wish to make that a side challenge instead, I am up for that challenge! I will play along with you.

Holy cack girl....well something sure came up :blush: Oh Yeah, thanks a bunch for reminding me about my untimely deaths in Irkingthand due to traps. I'm never gonna live those down am I ;)

Now then Sah.....if you are going to be my follower for a month, I feel it only right to inform you that the position requires certain special duties to be performed twice every night and once in the morning. I should also like you to cook for me, but don't worry I will test out your cuisine on the horse before I risk it :D

I'm content with waiting for the next round for it, then. :)

My proposal was partially in jest, but it's based on a simple reality. Three weeks is just too short a time for most players to get very far in a high-difficulty "blow-out" competition. In Sah's "announcement post," she mentioned "200 hours," and that seems a reasonable estimate of the amount of time necessary to develop a Legendary character and advance through the major quest lines.

In my case, I can devote somewhere between one and three hours a day to playing. In three weeks, that adds up to something like 30-40 hours of game play.

I know that, in that amount of time, I can blow through quite a few quests at a very low difficulty, but there's no way that I'd have enough time in three weeks to actually build a viable Master or Legendary character and finish the Main Quest. Even in the case of Sah and Rick, they spend hours of character development in the early game, and they are both working from a vast experience in playing at this level.

But I'd be perfectly happy to participate in this round, the way it is, as long as at a future time we can get a chance to play my kind of character (gimped, limited.) :)

Pretty much why I will be playing on either Adept or Expert, still haven't decided... been awhile since I did a sword & Board and my timing is still a bit off... practicing atm. Got our Run Route yesterday... waiting on Mr B.A. to tell me what he think's and make suggestions.

I really don't consider my characters "gimped" by having a limited skill set, to me that is more realistic..but really knowing everything about every herb to become a Master Alchemist would take as long as learning to become a Master Blacksmith... or Master Enchanter... so my characters don't... unless they are set up to become a "master" in their chosen craft, then... the rest of their skills will be a little weaker...why? because it's hard to "master" a skill... When I did horse show's, I never "mastered" one type, the reason was we were more or less trying to sell our horses and not all of them were suited for the same thing...so I was "pretty good" at Barrel's, and Western Pleasure... decent at show Jumping...and barely err apprentice lvl at Dressage. Had I stuck to one type... I may have mastered it, I feel the same about my characters... my knowledge of the game is much greater than what they can know...so they are limited in what they should know.

Well we can't always play to one "style" that is hardly fair...and really no fun after awhile.

I will say that run is going to be...harsh... even at lvl 1... I ran it on Apprentice ( cause...^^ timing) 41 wolf pelts and those are only the ones that Madrig got...not including the ones that slid away down hills and such. I actually had to double check to make sure I had removed Immersive Creatures...lol... Actually I ran in twice...once on Horseback, which only made it slightly easier.

Yeah, "gimped" probably isn't the right word. :) "Skill-limited" is more the way I do things.

I'm retired from a profession where it's possible to master certain skills, but impossible to master all skills (woodworking.) I made boxes, chests, and small furniture, and I "mastered" the art of inlay. A friend of mine is a master carver. A brother-in-law is an expert cabinetmaker. Each of us can do, to some extent, the work that the others are doing, but we are only "experts" in our limited areas. And that's from a life of work in just in the single craft of woodworking.

In order to play Skyrim at Legendary, you need to become "master" of at least two crafts, in addition to mastering a variety of fighting skills. If you don't master those skills, you are at a significant disadvantage (which is what I meant by "gimped.")

I'll just play this round at whatever lower difficulty seems viable, in terms of "points-per-quest." And I look forward to an eventual competition that matches up with my game-playing. :)

Hmmmmmm. Reading between Areial and Glargg.....I must admit to being intruiged. A non crafting Scav hunt.....at a low level (What does low level mean? I managed to drag my slider down to master a couple of times, but it was hard to do that :) ). Yes.....just for fun and because I am wondering......after this Round and the fun run I will be happy to join you both on a "Glargg rules" fun bash. We might have to sweet talk sixy into it....leave her to me....I know her weakness :hubbahubba:

Oh King my friend,

This is too um hard to explain easily.....she is not "mortal" as you and I understand it, and does not need oxygen. Think more transcendental. But in her posts I can see her breathing........oh god I love that so much. Click her picture and you'll get her profile.....read the Tribute to end Para 3....and you will understand. What you see my friend....is what you get. :D

Well, my idea isn't exactly "scavenger hunt" as one normally uses the term. More like "Amateur Hour." :D

Imagine that you are being rewarded only for quests completed, but you are not allowed to craft, and you are only allowed to use three enchanted items* at a time. You are given a maximum of 60 hours of game play in which to accomplish this. Dead is dead. No "advantage" mods. Those are the only rules.

*3 enchanted items, your choice. Could be three items of clothing, or a weapon, shield, and one amulet, or whatever. The idea is to force the player to make character-type choices, rather than a maxed-out "build."

You can set your difficulty level anywhere you want to, and brag about it if you want. ;)

How about it? :)

I was thinking more the character IS a scavenger using only found items, which of course could be limited to a specific number of enchanted items.

Everyone one the same difficulty ( 2 b hashed out?) With the same goals...or points for quests?

Not like we don't have time to argue out the details!

Yup Glargg, that's what I meant, about crafts and skills.

Yeah, I think we're on the same page.

I don't think we need to force anybody to play below their comfortable difficulty, but I'd suggest no minimum for this one. Let everyone play at whatever level they want. The time limit, along with no bonuses for difficulty, will basically force everyone down into the "easy" area anyway.

Let's face it, Dead-is-dead is intimidating to new players. If we want to broaden this competition, and bring in new people, we need to have the occasional game where it's not always frustrating.

The important thing, in my view, is to limit the game-play time, not the starting/finishing dates. The former method levels the field, while the latter method favors the players who can spend a lot of time in-game. We could have a two week round, but a time limit (40 hours, maybe?) within that period. That would give a fighting chance to the players who can only play a couple of hours a day.

And that's why I suggested low difficulty; it eliminates the need to "grind" your skills, so a short-hour game is feasible.

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1581224-did-competition-round-9/ please sign in and I will get your character on the Player's list!!!

That will work... I know I am happy and medium and loewr difficulties, but I also know what I can and can't do with no craft.... lol

Basically we will be reversing the multiplier?? I think a time limit for play is good, what I did with the Christmas games...made it more fun for me at least.

Yep......tell you what......just for once only ........and provided there's no down side, bonus loss etc etc........I will do it on MINIMUM difficulty and test out the "slow levelling on low difficulties" hypothesis. Assuming of course Lady Sah will allow me......she's pretty strict you know :blush: but I know how to ask nicely ;)

It could be an interesting diversion from the usual.......

Well if any "bonus loss" it would be in reverse... the Higher you are the more of a down-side their will be. Think about it, could you imagine trying to run any quest-line with no crafting skill at all on Legendary? I know it's hard with only one craft skill on Master...

That is why I am an off and on DiD player... cause doing the same thing over and over again get's old.

So basically call Round 10 a "scavenger round" ( not Scavenger hunt)

* No crafts

* No Training ( ???)

* Found items only ( no buying or selling??)

* Limit the # of enchanted items ( ???)

* Points

- per-quest/ quest-line ( same as this round)

- amount gold/ gems/ jewelry ( ??? )

- multiplier in reverse ( ???)

* time limit per week & two week's long ( ???)

I know...we have time to hash it all out, but getting idea's and perhap's new players interested is always a good thing!! Round 9's rules are rather simple along with the scoring, so unless someone comes up with something that really need's to be changed... it's just waiting for the start time. * and practicing!!

I don't think it needs any multipliers at all. The "no-craft" rule will force low difficulty play. :D

The most important concept is the absolute overall limit on play-time. That's what levels the playing field for those who can't play high hours a day. The simplest thing would be to take an arbitrary number, for instance "two hours," and just multiply it by the number of days in the competition, and that's the limit. You could play it all in a couple of days, or you could spread it over the two weeks, but everybody has the same time limit.

As you say, plenty of time to work out the details. :)

True... very true.... I have played no craft characters on Adept, but they weren't DiD characters either... so I know I will be using Novice!! I do like the time limit thing, I know their are days when I can't really play at all and then on my days off I have most of the day if I want to.
