Kane, sorry to hear about Atul's demise.

Here is what Rafer has been up to. I mentioned a couple of things above, but here us a little more detail. It is really long, as it is a few days of activity at a breakneck pace so I'll hide it:

Spoiler
After leaving the tomb of Ysgramor, Rafer was sitting in Winterhold, mulling his options. There were Imperials to kill, dragons menacing the land and vampires randomly attacking the cities. The barkeep at the inn, Dagur, mentioned the College of Winterhold. Rafer's dad always told he should go to college, he never said which one, though. Maybe he meant this one.

At the entrance exam he was required to cast ... (please something useful, please something useful) .... Magelight (ugh! Useless!). He picked up his college uniform which he stored away in his dorm room with a bunch of other accumulates junk. The off to his first class, where he was taught Lesser Ward. He immediately joined his classmates at Saarthal, butchering some bandits on the way. He carved his way through the Nordic ruin with ease, including killin Jyrick Galdurson with one hit. Upon his return to the College the Archmage rewarded him with a staff of ..... Magelight.

Next he was sent to Fellglow keep to retrieve some overdue books. Rafer brought along his new friend Brelyna. They made it to Windhelm after visiting the Shrine of Azura, heading back to Winterhold to discuss Azuras Star with Nelacar. In Windhelm they agrees to help the local alchemist and the smith find some long lost artifacts.

From Windhelm, the went through Yngol Barrow, for a fine looking helmet, and then Ironbind Barrow, discussed in my last post. Gathrik was tough, and Salma did not survive. Rafer and Brelyna next retrieved the white phial and took it with them toward Fellglow Keep.

Reaching the keep Rafer and Brelyna made quick work of the residents, saved Orthorn and retrieved the books. Rafer continued to find spell tomes for spells he already new (flames, healing, courage). He is not destined for Wizardry.

After Fellglow the went to Riverwood and met with Delphine. They followed her to Kynesgrove, swinging by a troll cave for another missing library book. Sahlokanir was a very easy kill. Sadly, Rafer would soon find that there are many easy kills during dragon fights.

The sword of queen Freydis was located in a cave just south of Kynesgrove. Rafer and Brelyna headed that way but were attacked by a frost dragon. Between his racial resistance and the helm of Yngol, Rafer laughed off the dragon attack. He and Brelyna brought it's health down to a sliver. Rafer charged in for the kill. Killcam! Wait, no! Brelyna jumped in front of Rafer and Great Critical Charge + Wuuthrad + Dark Elf = dead Brelyna. Rafer was devastated. He was quite fond of Brelyna despite being a "Nordy-Nord".

This is getting way too long. I'll pickup the pace.

Back to Winterhold. Augur of Dunlain. Picked up J'Zhargo. Killed glowing lights attacking Winterhold. Killed an ice wraith to join the Stormcloaks. Retrieved Onmunds staff from some wimpy vampires. Went to Labyrinthian and got the Staff of Magnus. Killed Ancano's buddy with one hit. Back now to Riverwood, where he is sharpening Wuuthrad in anticipation of a visit to the Thalmor Embassy.

Rafer, sorry to hear about Brelyna. I guess you can’t trust Wuuthrad around any kind of elf. I am imagining Ysgramor’s axe carving through the Thalmor under the gleam of many, many Magelights. :D

Thanks for reading all that, Grits. I am loving Wuuthrad, which would mot likely be the case if crafting were available this round. Hoping Rafer picks up a couple words of Elemental Fury before heading to the embassy. I am worried about Malborn, though. He rarely survives in my games!

Rafer... awesome! I just did Diplomatic Immunity with my RP character... Malborn survived, but he did get hit.

Honestly I haven't played Mardig much, I'll get to him today, but I an nowhere near where most everyone else is. My time is very limited right now and I've been playing my RP character instead.

For all those who have fallen

We weep tears like you wept blood,

But don't be sad or crestfallen

For it is you that we really love

Ariel, sorry you are out, but I'm glad you can spend more time in the character stories thread! Rafer is now the Archmage and has just picked up Azuras Broken Star.

Captain Horker is alive at level 12, and about 12 hours of play. There's no way I'll be able to play the 40 hours; I'll be lucky to hit 20. I just don't have the time right now.

Looking good!!!! Well I can "write" at work ( in my head, then get it on paper...at work...) so only playing and typing need to be done at home) And Lord know's I'm spending more time than I want at work right now. We are short a couple associates.

That's pretty much why I kept up a running tab of what Mardig was at...cause I could see were everyone was and how I was doing... which granted wasn't great!

So I have noticed something very strange with my game. I went through Illinalta's Deep last night and every Mage used frost magic Rafer. He is a Nord and wears the Helm Yngol, so he barely notices frost magic. Then it occurred to me that all of my Dragon encounters have been with Frost Dragons (except Mirmulnir). The only fire Mage Rafer encountered during Labyrinthian that was not a frost Mage was the one who is tied to the fire door (and Morokei). I'll have to keep my eye on this. It has made mages significantly less dangerous.

There does seem to be a bias toward frost mages in Skyrim. It's actually the main reason I normally play a nord.
