DiD Competition (Round 5) (Warrior) Part 2

Post » Sun Aug 23, 2015 1:01 am

NOTE: Since MrBattleAxe seems to be MIA and the normal thread is way over 200 posts, I am creating this thread in his stead. Note that I am NOT elevating my position in the grand Competition hierarchy, or attempting to take over his responsibilities.

Part 2:

The competition has started! Post your characters name, race and gender or you won't enter the competition! You cannot enter this competition after day 12!

Do it like this: (Example)

(Your name)
(Char's name)
(Race)
(gender)

I dunno what happened to Mr Battleaxe, he may have been kidnapped by aliens. I sent him a PM, but no response yet. I am therefore creating this thread to keep things alive in the meantime.

Thanks Neil. Now where was I? Ah yes waxing lyrical and theatrical posturing..........

SAH I believe you may have confused the dates and times somewhat! Today is the 14th day of battle already. But with still a week to run, this will have been a three week engagement.

No matter!
I SHALL FIGHT UNTIL VULTURES GROW SICK AT THE SIGHT OF CARCASS

I SHALL FIGHT UNTIL THERE IS NOT A FOOTSPACE BETWEEN THE FALLEN

I SHALL FIGHT UNTIL THERE IS NO MORE FIGHTING TO BE DONE

SAH m'lady, when silence falls save the rustling of fallen banners in the bitter wind. When none stand but me and thee, there shall be no contest between us. I remain at your disposal......Sir Rick

Stupid me, got the new and old threads mixed up and posted this in the about to be locked one. :P

Spoiler

Darn it. Now you and rick have me wanting to start a dagger and shield guy. Dagger, heavy shield (round one like banded or dawnguard) greaves, guantlets and helmet, with light armor. Perk up the right side of the block tree and use the shield offensively to get in close for stabs with the dagger. Maybe a new DiD character...

Akylas......here's the deal.
Shield play...... A really good shield with shield wall perks and some Fortify Block will make you very hard to kill, providing you know how to use it. Sah has done a very good shield use tutorial on You Tube....search on ' sah and shield' it's well worth a look. Take the lady stone or other Health Regen method and you injuries will heal while behind the safety of your shield even when facing Deathlords. Personally I find the left side of the Block tree to be more advantageous. Shield bashes do minimal damage, whereas the elemental protection of 50% means you can block Robe Wearer attacks. Block runner also on the left side lets you run around with your shield up and that is invaluable when you need to get away or close in quickly, but can't risk dropping your shield.

Dagger play......its different! Fast. You can drop your guard get a stab at your foe and raise your shield before they can make a single swing of their heavy weapon. Low level daggers will seem disappointing at first, but once you get Dwarven or Elven and smith them up a bit you'll find them inflicting serious harm. The glass dagger is the standard to aim for, Dragonbone is great but not essential. Note that Fortify One Handed apparels and potions do NOT improve dagger damage, but don't let that put you off. There are other advantages. If you swing heavy weapons you'll be used to being rooted to the spot while the slow swing plays out. Daggers allow greater mobility. You'll start dancing between foes like a murderous ballerina, slashing, spinning and weaving.

Advanced techniques.....daggers are light in weight. Even a good one weighs only a quarter of a Greatsword. So you can afford to carry a couple with different enchantments for different purposes. Maybe one for soul trapping. Maybe one imbued for maximum damage, and one to turn away the undead. Their speed allows you to step smartly toward a foe inflict a stab, or better still, paralyse, then step smartly back avoiding their clumsy hammer smack down. The sneak perk tree rewards sneaky back stabs with upto fifteen times normal damage! If that's your style.

Style.......Daggers suit the lightly armoured scouts/thieves/assassins, and for good reason. Speed of movement is key. Also, I couldn't seriously see my pretty Nord girly wielding a twenty pound hammer. :). Have fun with your dagger and shield play. It may take a bit of practice to adapt to, but If you do it will unveil its rewards in time. :D
