DiD competition Round XII- Dawnguard

Post » Wed May 11, 2016 10:11 am

Heya Sah, :D Did you mean to post the same vid as in your post #119? I was ready for part deux, but looks to be the same to me.

:teehee: Miniupdate- Tal now level 26 spent an afternoon and a day playing with a mudcrab (a little one) to work on his heavy armor, block and restoration. Danged if those little claws don't hurt!!!

P.S. Why I ask, WHY does the RNG monster only show his fugly mug during the competition. Every vendor I come across is selling two handed enchanted weapons and light armor, but NO maces, NO heavy armor better than steel. I did manage to get a pair of dwemer boots of muffling (can't use the enchant, /cry, I NEVER find these in regular play, evah!) and to add insult to injury as soon as I stepped outside with them this Courier hands me a note and some researcher Calcemo magically knew I'd bought them and he wanted to have them for his project! (sigh)

You must be playing my game. Itaei can not find anything for himself to save his life. He's found one thing he can use. Rest of his meager things were bought.

Lolly is heading for Fort Dawnguard, having met with a strangely armored orc vampire-hunter recruiter. She's wearing the Savior's Hide, carrying a Hide Shield of Resist Magic, and a one-hand Orcish war axe.

She now owns a small partially-built house in Falkreath.

Spoiler
(With the Atronach Stone, that makes 50% Resist and 50% Absorb, which should make vampire magical damage manageable. The Savior's Hide will serve as a stop-gap until she can get the Aetherial Crown, and add the Lord Stone.)

Since posting yesterday, she has cleared:

@Freewitch - yeah that RNG monster gets around like a bad septim!

@Glargg - Very nice! Ol' Lolly isn't gaggin' about at all! Best part about these competitions is reading the myriad of different approaches to stayin' alive! :tes:

Thanks for that one Glargg, I had forgotten about the saviour's hide....will be handy as this Gabriel is going light armour instead of heavy :)

Will push his magic resist up to 92% (I know, 85% effective cap) with current stone/necklace.....and once I have the aetherial crown I can decide which stone I want to pair up with the Lord Stone....thinking of not though and just getting Otar/the 3 dragonborn ones instead for enhancing the elemental resists....Just need a full set of high resist boots to round things out before unleashing dragons...

Greets DiD Peeps,

While playing earlier I had a thought/question and checked the roolz, but there wasn't an answer so here it is:

Are we allowed to Legendarize one or more of the 8 skills that were randomly selected? I believe in the past we didn't legendarize any skills, but we often had more skills to play with, without overlap skills ( like heavy armor and light armor).

Not sure how peeps feel about it, especially since one skill, Illusion, would be super easy to redo. Perhaps a once only type thing if it is something everyone wants in order to get upper level perks that may be unattainable otherwise unless one focuses on even less skills for perking.

Food for thought, nom, nom, nom. And as always I'm happy with current set up and will be happy with majority answer regarding my inquiry. :D

Lolly is going Light, too. And she'll probably never wear a complete set, since her head slot is likely to always wear a hood, mask, or circlet for the enchantment. Holly is primarily a caster; she uses her 1-hand weapon as a backup, and for bopping nuisance animals like wolves.

I'm finding that the 50% Resist / 50% Absorb is pretty effective against mages; in battle against casters, Lolly's Health holds up well, and her magicka keeps getting refilled, so she can cast almost continuously.

I think I'd be opposed to it, mainly because I think it's kind of cheesy. I mean, we're talking about spamming Muffle over and over to get level-ups, and repeatedly legendarizing Illusion, right? (I understand that's probably not how you envision it, but that's the obvious potential for abuse.)

Just noting it's not in the rules and that IF the majority wanted to add it I would recommend a once only situation as stated in post 131 because of the very easy abuse that could happen with Illusion. Additionally, I would like to reiterate that "And as always I'm happy with current set up and will be happy with majority answer regarding my inquiry." Appreciate the input. :D

I found a treasure map on a poor man who's house was destroyed my a falling tree. On the map there's a mark that reads "Riften", so that's my next destination.

I left Whiterun Hold and headed East. The hot springs looked like a good opportunity to relax a bit until i got too close to a giant. I spent ~ half hour just to kill it (that was a really angry giant...).

It's time to continue my journey, but first i'll smelt all the ore i got.

On my way to Riften, i passed through Shor's Stone and i cleared the mine of spiders. The ebony ore i got from there is gonna be useful in the future.

After a short stop, i resumed my search for that treasure.

The Dread Zombie Brand has met his demise once again.

Level 24, no points no penalties. No cigars, cigarettes, or Tiparillos. :)

After completing Sunderstone Gorge and Valthume, Trying for Spellbreaker seemed like the thing to do. Unfortunately, Lydia could not bring herself to not challenge the

Spoiler
Dwemer Centurion just before Orchendor's chamber.

The big jerk trapped us (thanks to Lydia) on a dead-end ledge beside the door. Then Lydia just had to dive in front of a three word MFD thus ending her adventuring career and essentially Brand's at the same time. A nice long blast of steam cooked Brand (and the defunct Lydia) to a nice shade of glowing red perfect for evening dining.

The entire population of the dungeon is now down to

Spoiler
four Dwemer spidey's, the Dwemer Centurion, and Orchendor.

Anyway, that's it for me for this competition, I'm done. I was really getting kind of bored with unmodded master (that's probably what got Brand killed, as I wasn't really using the caution I should have) and I can't imagine playing unmodded on Expert at this point.

Just a quick update, i'll have to fill in level/skills/time tomorrow when I have more time....early night for me, gotta be up and at 'em in 8 hours getting ready to go beg for a job :)

Spoiler
Gabriel left the temple of mara with visions of a caged man and an enormous, ancient graveyard dancing before his eyes.

Catching a cart to falkreath he elected to ignore the Jarl's request for now (no reason not to, he was already ignoring balgruuf after all) and headed straight to the barracks and prison to find out about the semi-naked man paddling around the bottom of a well. After being palmed a spiffy looking ring which the guards had neglected to appropriate the loony rolled around fitting until he sprouted fangs and big ears and a tail, then escaped after making gabriel promise to kill a magnificent white stag

After chasing the stag to a bandit stockade gabriel was briefly distracted and lost the stag, tracking it's clumsy path through the wilds to just across the river from riverwood. On ramming two flaming firebolts down its throat a spirit emerged claiming to be Hircine and sent Gabriel to kill Sinding, the murderous werewolf.

Travelling to Bloated Man's Grotto via the Whiterun stables (where he acquired a horse) Gabriel arrived to find the hunt well under way. Stripping bodies off all saleable goods as he went. Gabriel agreed to assist Sinding in wiping out the other hunters before turning on him and skinning the beast for the favour of Hircine. Hircine appeared again as the specter of a man and with a wave of his hand transformed the werewolf pelt into a truly magnificent armour capable of protecting from both magic and poison.

Gabriel jumped on his horse and raced back to Whiterun to sell what he could and along the way saw the headless horseman out for a stroll with the four legged aspect of Hircine (true story)

Brushing it off as something he didn't want to get involved in, Gabriel caught the next carriage to Riften and rode his horse in the direction of what he'd been told was Dayspring Canyon and the Dawnguard.

A blizzard blew in as he approached the turning causing him to miss it and run directly into psychotic High Elf in Dwarven Armour who immediately began peppering him with ice spikes. Thanking the Divines for the foresight he'd had in developing a serious magical resistance, Gabriel dropped a shock rune at the elf's feet then buried his axe in his face. Approaching the border-post, Gabriel realised his mistake and turned around, searching along the road until he saw the braziers at the canyon entrance.

Stepping through he ran up to the dilapidated fort with a helpless young whelp of a lad trailing noisily behind. On entering the fort, Gabriel saw a stern looking man with a large hammer arguing with a Vigilant of Stendar about some place called Dim Hollow....

and here we leave him for today, at least

edit: I'm cool either way with no legendarising skills or limiting to just once....but I agree it can be easily manipulated with certain skills to artificially boost the character level

Also Neil, sorry to see another death come so soon....i'm sure we'd all like to see you take another swing but if it's just not holding your interest well enough then I guess deaths are just going to keep repeating and sap the fun out...we'll just have to look forward to the next round :)

Sorry Neil :( . Exact reason I rarely use a follower. I get killed every time. Course I play on adept so much easier to do by yourself also. Am sure you need one at those higher levels.

Legendary skills - I will abstain from voting. I've never done that so have no idea what impact it may or may not have. Whatever you all want to do is good by me. :)

Sorry to hear that Neil.... I'll get the stat's up, remember if you change your mind, their is plenty of time.

Rafer I got your Zombie up also.

About making a skill Legendary... Personally I don't think it's a good idea for competition... way to easy to grind it up.

voting for it would go...so far

2 neutral ( either/ or and abstaining )

4 no

1 yes

I voted no... but their are still a few people who can voice their opinion on the matter... majority rules...

Hmmmm, well I did NOT vote one way or the other, if I had voted it would have been NO Lengendarying, so I hope you didn't think my inquiry was a desire to have legendaried skills. As I said I'm fine with keeping things the way they are and would happily go along with whatever the majority decides. The point is moot as Tal is about out of steam for this particular comp and is going to retire to the Bannered Mare. Hulda seems to have taken a shine to him for all the wood choppin' he did for her. I think she has enough wood for the next several winters. Tal will be spending his time making Elswyr Fondue and eating popups to counter all the cheesiness.

The crossbow/no archery irony (also Auriel's Bow) had also occurred to me, but I'm finding that I like having to work around it, for once.

Lolly's Destruction is at about 47, and she has purchased a couple of nice new spells (Fireball and Flame Cloak) that she thinks will be useful in Dimhollow.

Yeah that part aught to be fun to figure out... Tyler will be taking some carriage rides shortly... One to Solitude to hire Belrand .. I figure since Tyler can't use conjuration staff's, he'll get a couple, they will be given to Belrand along with the filled soul gem's he's finding... plus he uses sword & spell's so should be a decent companion.. ( barring getting in the way ). Then off to Winterhold... spell's... training.. and a pretty useful gift from a furry friend... He's gotta get up some gold first though... so bandit bounties...

Sorry to see your character has met his demise. You could add mods and play expert. Adding mods to make the game harder are allowed. I'm in the same boat, playing on expert. I'm not going to put any mods in yet, but if I manage not to kill myself in a trap for a few levels I will likely add in either combat/enemy AI mods or Deadly dragons and deadly monsters. For now, I'm enjoying the fact that my character can actually use Destruction magic.
