DiD competition Round XII- Dawnguard

Post » Wed May 11, 2016 12:50 pm

These competitions are supposed to be exploit free. I think sitting on level ups is an exploit and shouldn't be allowed. I'm sure we discussed this previously.

Your not....

Ske3Lz... Though it has always been an unwritten rule... because of the unfairness of it, as it is a type of exploit... we had never thought it needed to be written in. As you may not have known, I won't say a re-start is needed..., but from this point onward's you need to level up your character ... no longer than one dungeon for a single hold... so that it may be used to grant health. I will be writing it into the rules. I hate being that nit-pickey. I would ask for a vote... but I can tell you how all the "regulars" are going to vote...as I said, it's been an unwritten rule for a while.

I'm afraid I had not watched the video's or I would have PM'd you.... I am terribly sorry if this offends...

Yeah, not that I feel I have to "vote," but I think the practice of holding back leveling is outside the spirit of the competition.

Also, I won't speak for anybody else, but I think the practice of spam-leveling Restoration by standing in a fire is pretty much an expoit, and I wouldn't do it. I can see sparring for a couple of levels with a mudcrab or a skeleton to work on multiple skills like block, armor, and restoration, but it gets pretty cheesy when taken to extremes. Paid training is a whole different thing, because you have to earn the money for the trainer.

It's like the other "exploit" I mentioned the other day, "splitting up" with Ralof/Hadvar, going back in the cave, and sneaking behind the bear for an hour. It's cheesy; I might do it for the "halibut," but I wouldn't do it in a competition.

Glargg, I wrote the Rule to say "any exploit"... not just, not leveling.

I think... this is one of those times...when we should use the Trash talk thread and come up with a...set of rules...complete to be written in. We have always pretty much left it up to those who play to catch the un-written ones... and I am not just saying in this instance...but in other rounds, I have seen people push at the rules to the point I wanted to tear my hair out...

That of course is just my opinion... Depending on how some things go in my personal life... I might not be able to host ( or even play ) the next round. I think by then some really good rules need to be set up.

IMO, it is unfair. I'm struggling with Bandit Highwaymen and Thugs and other such leveled bosses, when if I just sat on my level ups, I'd only be dealing with regular Bandits, and maybe Outlaws.

An unexpected early update for the Wrathful Wraith Brand...

Spoiler

---Heartfire, 6th, 4E 201---

I stand here on Skyborn Altar gazing out with the advantage of height over a vast swath of the night-covered Northern portion of Skyrim, and I marvel at it's beauty... a beauty I've never seen in quite this way before. The bones of the dead dragon rattle behind me, reminding me I should move on, but not just yet. I'm not quite ready to face the future and this is a good place to exercise my mind.

A few of days ago you see, I had decided to stop by the College at Winterhold to increase my ability to use my magicka to it's full potential. On the way, I'd stopped by Mount Anthor, and learned a new shout at the expense of the dragon who roosted there.

I'd then arrived late in the evening at the college, and without a thought spent nearly all of my gold during the first 24 hours on training and spells. The result was that I found myself needing to leave in order to replenish my supply of Septims. Tuition is not cheap, even in Skyrim.

I headed down the walkway into town, and as I entered Winterhold proper, I found myself embroiled in a desperate fight against a Master vampire and two Death Hounds. The battle didn't last long, but I'm afraid the consequences will last much longer... mostly because of what I didn't realize at the battle's end.

During the fight, I had had inadvertently struck one of the hold guards. What I didn't realize until much later was that the guard had died of his injuries.

The surviving guards of course arrested me on what I thought would be minor charges, and since I had only about 10 gold on me, I wasn't surprised when they took me to jail where I served my time. It turned out to be a much longer sentence than I had expected due to the death of the guard.

Immediately on my release I learned the rest of what I hadn't known. That being that during the battle, I had contracted vampirism. That would likely not have been such a huge problem, except... the jail sentence I served was longer than three days, and I emerged from the prison as a full-fledged vampire, with no cure in sight.

So... Isn't this a fine kettle of blood? I had been determined to join the Dawnguard after speaking with the orc recruiter, but how in the world do I now show up as a vampire and ask to join up? Will they try to kill me on sight, or will they be fooled for a space? If they try to kill me, can I survive long enough to escape?

I'm finding the consequences of vampirism dire indeed, as I cannot make potions to restore my magicka and health, but these don't regenerate in the sunlight. An early morning encounter with a dragon on the shores of the Sea of Ghosts was nearly the death of me, and wiped out my entire store of potions.

I am in quite a quandary as to my next move.

Yeah, we may have to spell those exploits out, I guess.

Yes, and even the roadside animals are different. If you avoid leveling, you see mostly just weak wolves and rats. My character, at just a few hours in, is facing bears, big spiders, ice wraiths, trolls, snowy cats, etc. The chance of death is a lot higher if you level up correctly.

Small update and a look at the man himself, Gabriel has paid a visit to the face sculptor after rumours sparked his curiosity

He's had a nose job, reshaped his mouth a little, changed eye colour, and indulged in a new, prettier (in his view) hairstyle, hair colour and tidied up his beard

Nothing else changed, had to close out Skyrim while I was away for a few hours....timer keeps running while paused :(

Oh crap! I wonder how much of my 3 hours so far has been me making tea. :D

Igraine is supporting the troops at the Western Watch Tower right now, I’ll be back tonight to report how things went. She’s level 4 and wearing a dead man’s novice robe and hood, Imperial steel boots, and those steel Nordic-style gauntlets. BFB was a riot. She forgot to pick up the claw in her zeal to smash more undead abominations, plus her rush made her ungraceful around those traps!

Gabriel is no more, he got swamped by the bandit chief and 4 of her friends at Treva's Watch. He was laughing off the magic attacks, but each swing of the chief's iron mace did almost 50 damage to him and with only 150 health Gabriel stood not a lot of chance against her in narrow corridors with at least one thug archer backing her up (my runes killed none of them)

I think I got a little carried away with how tough gabriel was since nothing was providing any real trouble for him :(

If no one objects I'd like to start a new DiD character at Expert Level, minus the 13 hours 42 minutes and 12 seconds that Tal expended (he's turned into a drunken sot and Hulda has dumped him).

The Dawnguard will insist on you getting cured before carrying on with the questline I believe....I hadn't realised it was a question, I assumed it was the character having no idea not both yourself and the character :)

I don't think they'll attack on sight unless you're stage 4, like most guards

I guess I didn't phrase it very well. Sorry about that... :) I've rarely played any part of Dawnguard, and I've never shown up already a vampire before. I was kinda hoping they wouldn't notice, but that's just because I din't want to take the time for the cure. I'm a little short on hours remaining.

Spoiler
Go find yourself a friendly hawk and ask him for a tail feather to chew on and you'll be just fine!

You're just "a" vampire to them not one of "the" vampires (gotta love the caste system even among blood svckers).

i should say it's been a long time since I actually played through dawnguard and ended up vamp'd on the dawnguard side of things.....so can't guarantee safety but I don't think they act any different to standard guards

I thought that only worked after being infected, but before actually becoming one... That sure isn't listed as a cure on the UESP, eh? :D

See, Brand was in jail during the incubation period, so he couldn't get a cure as he normally would.

Hmmm I thought you had time left before full transformation. Maybe that type of cure stops at an earlier stage. I am a complete Vamp noob other than running to the nearest shrine or taking a cure right away. HEY! :prod: How'd you end up in jail?

Ha well latin is a root for many of our words. Frigus must equate to fridge and fridgid so therefore "Cold or frozen" Portum equates to something like either portable so "carry" or Portal meaning "door or gate"

Latin, like a lot of italian of course reads back to front......so we have probably "doorway to the Cold" or equivalent meaning.

You have the first half, but the second is tricky because the latin gets interpreted multiple ways to English, but think about our competition and perhaps you will have an epiphany (never get to use that word). :D
