I'm not a fan of fireball just because the aoe knocks everything everywhere.

irebolt like icespike is a narrow point spell... fireball on the other hand is more widespread, like a cone... the further out... the more damage... Icestorm and firestorm are a broad pointed spell... for multiple baddies...

I could wish that firebolt increased in intensity and damage as the mage gained in skill points... the correct perk's and it almost does.

Myself, while I think fireball is fun, I find it's most useful for killing off your dog, your horse, and your companions. It's also pretty good for turning allies into enemies and creating a respectable-sized bounty on one's head. :) The truth is that on legendary, destruction magic levels so slowly and its damage increase is so slight that most of the time it's functionally useless IMO.

In this competition, luck plays a major part when it comes to finding usable enchanted weapons. That being said, luck seems to be... perverse, eh? :D

Anyway, Brand arrived in Riverwood and sold off his collection of goods. He was still too poor for buying much, so the next morning he spent 10 minutes RT chopping wood, and went to Embershard to ask nicely if he could borrow a few things like a pickaxe and some torches... The bandits in the mine expressed no desire to be helpful at all, so now there are no bandits in the mine.

He managed to smith himself up a nice set of fine steel armor with a steel mace and shield, and was fortunate enough to find a pair of iron Boots of Hauling. He was so pleased that he almost didn't kill the bandits at the tower across the river, but since they wouldn't let him pass peacefully....

Brand stayed around Riverwood for a couple of days, raising funds and learning some smithing, then wandered into Whiterun. The day after his arrival, he encountered a hunter not far from Halted Stream Camp who claimed to have been bitten by a vampire. The hunter was begging for a cure disease potion, but Brand had none, so they went their separate ways.

As fate would have it a short time later Brand heard the sound of combat, and following the noise came upon a smuggler's camp where three bandits were attacking that same hunter. He knew he'd have a hard time beating them (he'd killed two bandits in the same area a bit earlier and been chased off by this three earlier).

The bandits had an archer, a mage who was deadly with "sparks" and an orc armed with a huge steel battle axe. In a stand-up fight Brand couldn't hope to take them out but... there was this horse standing there. He quickly stole the horse, and rode into the melee below while bashing bandit heads with his mace. That was both fun and effective, and soon the archer bandit was dead.

The mage managed to keep hitting Brand and the horse with his spell, so it became apparent that the tactic wouldn't work in the long-term. Unfortunately the hunter didn't survive, but Brand led the bandits to the Whiterun gates where the guards took care of the mage and the orc.

Why in the Nine Hells couldn't even a healing spell be possible while mounted?

Brand is now level 7, and considering whether or not to head to Bleak Falls, and whether or not to find a companion to take along.

Iggy has made it to level 12. He is still doing odd jobs, now for the citizens of Windhelm. He nearly bought it from the Dragon in the Vocanic flats, but found refuge in a dwarven storeroom. While waiting for the dragon to lose interest he looted the storeroom of enough Dwarven materiel that he made a full set of dwarven armor. He also picked up a necklace of fire abatement (15 or 20% I think). He had picked up a useful shout in a long forgotten cave (still locked).

He has to go fetch an old sword in a smelly troll infested cave. After that he will likely help out Amren, who tracked his fathers sword to a bandit camp (halted stream camp, ugh). Faendal is still along for the ride, for now. Iggybis planning on visiting High Hrothgar soon, before inquiring about a job with the Dawnguard.

I'm very concerned about Dragons, as Iggy is light on resistances and has a futile ranged attack.

Rick has to attend a family party Saturday evening and is then away for a few days. Being the Contessa's vessel means she won't be around either. Wouldn't it be great if we could separate for a time....let her stay home with my Xbox fighting the good cause while I perform the require functionary duties!

Well, that can't happen, but in a way I am glad because I would miss her.

If I get the opportunity I will log in by phone because I am sure Adella will want to know where everyone is in the Round.

Extra......

Parts of Adella's face remind me of something like Mila Jojovich's eyes with Scarlett Johanson's mouth....Oooooh.....no wonder I Like her..... Woof

Picked up Gabriel again today, informed the jarl about helgen, retrieved amren's sword and killed the bandit leader at halted stream camp.

Gabriel travelled to Riften via the lord stone, hall of the vigilants (for restoration training from Carcette), dawnstar's mines and shops and ironbind barrow where he mushed a traitorous lizard and killed 2 ice wraiths on the mountain peak. From Riften he headed for Ivarstead to resolve a matter of love but was sidetracked by a fort needing liberation from bandits. He met his end at the hands of a forced kill cam from the resident bandit chief while moving backwards and at nearly 3/4 health :(

He was level 9 and had been doing rather well for himself

Edit: 4 hours 23 minutes of play at the load door, assume 4 hours 30 by point of death for sake of round numbers (was likely slightly less)

I think my mistake was throwing a few levels at Illusion....those perks and levelling time would have been better going into heavy armour/one handed/blocking like my brief practice run :/

Is the step down in difficulty mandatory? because if so i'll not bother taking a second swing...don't fancy playing at Apprentice...

Generally it would be.... but I think this round any "death" under lvl 10 we could do a strait restart... After that, a restart at the next level down. I think this will help those on the higher difficulties where under lvl 10 is test to see how fast one can run away.

Edit: I can of course be over-ruled by the majority of other players...

Yeah I 'd go with that Areial.....under level 10 no penalty restart.....it would seem churlish to be unnecessarily over zealous.

The whole reason for drop down was to make it fair on those who managed to stay alive for long periods. And I guess cos you proved you needed a lower level by getting killed...(but some would always argue it was only a fluke death!)

Level ten is no biggie in the scheme of things anyways.....but I would like to suggest that no one be allowed to INCREASE their level after a death for ANY reason....otherwise an adept player who has done well to not ever be killed...could be suddenly beaten by a practiced novice who decides to GET killed to come back in at a high difficulty just to trounce the adept on points in the last week. Can't have that kind of thing going on...gives a bad impression to the below stairs staff!

So yeah...it would seem like a good rule to enshrine for future plays too! Especially since even a veteren of Legendary play can have a bad start. Easily actually if you think about it. If you play Legendary for a long time it gets easier at higher levels....suddenly you're on Legendary in a competition at a level one start and forget that a wolf can kill you in seconds.......I know I have been caught out by that in times gone by!

Almost croaked already. :/ Heading to Whiterun from Riverwood and a Breton attacked me. Magic resistance is non-existent right now, lol. I used most of my healing potions.

This ought to be an interesting one!!

In the interest of fairness in terms of restarts I'll wait until we have a majority of 6 (11 participants unless I counted wrong)

No point to restarting at Adept if I have to do it again because more players disagree than agree on the no penalty thing :)

I lurk here a lot anyhow, so i'll see if there's consensus :)

I got the SME thing also. ( whose SME? )

AccidentalNinja... Give it today...or partway through anyway... I'll be at work in the afternoon. If no one put's up a hoop-and-cry I'd start, though I don't know how you are fixed for time. If no one cry's foul by the end of the day...go ahead.

Rick... I had thought of those things... and for now we will see how it pan's out this round... But no I would not go for an increase in difficulty, if one dies and wants to... play along at a higher level, fine, but the point's would not count. I will add the lvl 10 rule tonight when I get home...IF the majority of players don't think it's a bad idea... it will be written like this

* You may restart at the same level IF you have died and are level 10 or under... once after that you must drop one level in difficulty. You may not restart at a higher level.

Eck... Tar-feathers... I hit the wrong key.... I think that is fair enough. Legendary is actually why I think it is a good idea, plus we have had more people quit because of some of the rules. Dead is Dead is fun ...but competition is very hard on newer players.... I don't want to take out the base of DiD play...

It's 4pm here (near enough anyhow), so if I hear no complaints before 9pm my time then i'll make a restart.

As for time....currently unemployed and looking for work, only commitments at present are baby sitting for a friend on Monday and an interview in Manchester on Tuesday (fingers crossed, touch wood, praise the Aedra)

Google threw up something along the lines of the Skyrim Medieval Economy mod....could it be that? was going to ask if Sah could add a used mods list under her videos, similar to Gopher's Lets Plays. This would be impractical if the mod list was subject to frequent change though (and/or 200 items long)

That's fine....work's for me and gives those who may be at work right now a chance to get home and voice their opinion.

Good luck with the Job interview...

I also vote for the "restart under 10" thing.

I would make one suggested amendment to the rules in this regard, though... I think that any sort of restart, whether it be an unrestricted restart under level 10, or a "zombie" restart, should be subject to the overall 100 hour maximum. In other words, one should not be free to play 50 hours, lose a character, and restart as a "zombie" with a fresh 100 hours. Nor should one be able to get a free 8 hours of "practice time" by virtue of losing a character at level 9.

Gaah, I might have to join this one. I love killing vampires so much.

Quick question, do we have to evenly perk the eight skills, or may we ignore a few of them?

Also, is there a penalty for pursuing the Main Quests and Shouts? (Sorry if this has already been discussed. I miss things when I read on my phone.)

OK... how about... if you played 25 hr's died under lvl 10 ... you now have 75 hr's to play? ( as an easy math example )

Realistically it would be around or under 25 hr's.. probably under as that is when one is trying to gain levels and skill's and leveling faster. Tyler is at lvl 2 with 3.16 hr's and hasn't "done" anything yet but take out a couple bandit's and do the smithing tutorial.

I think that would be fair. According to a couple of the web-sites I looked up the whole Dawnguard quest-line can be done in under 40 hr's... now they didn't mention getting all the radiant's done or the added quest's like "Lost to the Ages"... But one isn't "out" of the running if one can only play for 50 hr's or less...specially at lower level's.

So with each death and restart... you need to take off the hour's that you played at any difficulty. So like this:

So died Legendary lvl 9 15 hr's played

Restart on Legendary 85 hr's left to play

Died...... 25 hr's played

Restart Master............. 60 hr's left to play

How does that sound? If everyone is good with that, I will add it to the rules ( for this round ) and we can see how we like them for the next rounds.

I agree with the time subtraction, makes it more difficult to reach the upper levels on a restart (unless you're Sah) and it seems a fair consequence to loss of a character coupled with the difficulty drop

My initial death post will be updated to reflect elapsed time (roughly, since i was about 5 mins or so into the fort)
