DiD Competition, Trash Talk and other non-sense part 8

Post » Wed May 11, 2016 11:14 pm

So... the luck of the Draw for DiD Competition XII Dawnguard

1. Restoration

2. 1h

3. Illusion

4. Block

5. Light Armor

6. Smithing

7. Destruction

8. Heavy Armor

Rules and goal's so far:

DiD Round XII Dawnguard....Hero or villain?

* Draw for skill's* we all use what is drawn..so same things

-speech and lock-picking are "no perk's no penalties"

- so drawing from 16 skill's.. 8 are chosen

* 6am Local...on the 29th of April ( Friday morning) to May 30th at 6am local ( Monday morning )

* 100 hr's allowed total

* Dawnguard

- ONLY DG quest's count for points

-14 main quest's......... 500 pt's each

- 9 D.G. , 10 Vampire side quest's....radiant and repeatable.......100 pt's each

- 6 "other" side quest's ( not radiant or repeatable) <<~~~ these I am going to give different point's to as some are very easy and some...not so much.

* 2 point grace on non-drawn skills

-100 for each point that accrue's for the 1st 10 after that, then -500 accruing for each point their after.

(ex Conjuration if it starts at 20 for your character

21= 0

22= 0

23= -100

24= - 100 + -100 so -200

33= -500 + -1000 so -1,500

34= -500 + -1,500

and so on )

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dawnguard_Quests

*multiplier

Legendary..........x 1.75

Master................x 1.50

Expert................x 1.25

Adept....... .........x 1

Apprentice.........x . 75

Novice...............x . 50

*follower + dog ( Serana will require you to send them home so only for a short period can you have two... and unless you grind up your low lvl-ish )

- so in the begining when we are weak...we can actually have 1 regular follower, 1 dog ( not barbas ) and Serana, until a certain point where she will ask you to send your other followers home. reguardless of follower mod's you must at that point only have Serana as a follower...when you can again have a separate follower you may choose that follower and your dog instead.

All other DiD rules apply of course.

Unfortunately Sah I can't help with ENB outside what I gave you because I only use ENBoost for the memory patch.

You can ask on STEP forums in the ENB troubleshooting forum and I think ENB has a forum itself.

Skyrim is limited to 4GB of RAM so in a heavily modded build you need to use a memory patch and there's a few things you need to do to get it working right, as well as a utility that can let you know if your memory blocks are set up right.

What my setup looks like after the mods.

Took a load of work and still no ENB.

Sah.....oh honey....so much hurt.....so much grey :(

Look.....um.....you are probably asking the wrong people here. You need a computer graphics specialist forum. Geek central! Our forums are gamers....you need the kind of people who are into computers in a more tech way....overclockers....that kind of thing.

I wish I knew more about computers! BUT I am HERE FOR YOU, ok.

Come into my PM space honey.....we will speak :yes:

Sah....you know

Always..... :hugs:

I am sad.

Also I am the sad your avatar and pink are gone. :(

The reason there's no real installer is that ENB is a program you can tweak yourself, and all the presets you see there are just that... other people's settings.

I *think* people have tried installers for ENB before but I'd have to dig around a little bit. There's still file changes you need to do manually though. I change mine through the configurator tool in Mod Organizer.

CTD can be caused by a lot of things as well. I've gotten them occasionally in just about every single install of every Bethesda game ever, even Vanilla installs. Game just.. quits.

I am not the tech savvy person, I had to ask on STEP forums to fix all my stuff. :(

I've a really simple question for you Sah, that may give a simple solution. Are you using Windows 10?

If so, have you downloaded and installed "Direct X End-User Runtimes"? It's not really intuitive exactly why this fixes CTD issues with ENB in Windows 10, but apparently it does. I know you said no links, but if you want to try it, I can provide links for you.

Today, tick, tick tick. Tomorrow, tick......tick.......tick. Almost time and it's slowing down to a crawl.......ahhhhhhhh! Can't stand the wait so... I'll be playing a Breton (who knew), Male, by the name of Tal.

:read: He has no backstory, because he has a sudden case of CRS (can't remember sh!t) after waking up in a cart full of Nords. His story will unfold in the days to come and maybe he will regain his memory in the process. He seems to be good at using a mace and shield. Heavy armor just feels right to him and smithing along with it. On occasion when he's pressured he'll boil up with that Breton heritage and fire off a spell or two. Always seems to be fire or lightning, but once in a while his emotions run cold and the chill of frost finds a way.....out! He'll have to explore other avenues of magic and perhaps restoration and illusion will help him to heal and unlock those hidden memories. Time will tell. :shrug:

Hello everyone. It's been a while since i visit these competitions and i'm sorry i missed Dark Brotherhood round, but this round looks too good not to attend - the skills are perfect for a warrior with Restoration for healing instead of potions, just the way i like it.

The good news is that i finished recovering my sister's data from her laptop (got a nasty TeslaCrypt infection), so i'll have some time to spare. Probably not from the first day (Easter and stuff), but we'll see.

I understand how the penalty for skills work, but what about those that increase via books or Ogma. Do i have to look into the database before i read any book, just to be sure it won;t give me a wrong skill?

If you use Ogma, it doesn;t matter what you pick, it still gives you some bad skills (Two-handed and Archery for warrior, Pickpocket, Alchemy, Sneak for thief and Alteration, Conjuration, Enchanting for mage). This means at least 10 points are going to the wrong skills.

How many total points are for each side (those non radiant side quests).

How about other quests/questlines; is there any penalty?

I'm sorry to see you have problems with you new computer, Sah. Unfortunately my computer can't run Skyrim with ENB stuff installed, so i can;t give you any advice here.

Because I close tomorrow night...and the time differences around the world...etc... I'll put up the official DiD competition page tomorrow before I go to work. You can post your entry then. I may not get everyone on the 2nd post until after I get home...but I will get it done.

I will ask to please allow me the 1st 2 ( two) post's.....so as I get it up and the time tick's til it let's me post again... please wait for the 2nd one.

The 1st will have the rules, the 2nd will have everyone's entries... in this format please:

Your name: Aireal

Character name: http://i.imgur.com/i0Ac8uB.jpg << pictures are welcome but not needed

Race: Nord

Gender: Male

Difficulty: Adept

Their is a 2 point grace for each skill... I would look up the book's if you don't know which skill's they increase...as some ( sneak ) can be accidentally used...and probably where most of us will incur penalty points.. I would not use the Ogma...as that will incur a huge penalty....but that's just my opinion... the rules don't say you can't, you just get a penalty for the points.

Other quest-lines incur no points or penalties... if you have the time, do them... or not, your choice

DG main quest's is 500 points per quest done

Side quests is 100 points per quest

This is how I see the additional quest's that are added..

  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Durnehviir_(quest): Learn a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dragon_Shouts from http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Durnehviir_(dragon).....100 points

  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Forgotten_Vale_Books_Quest: Bring the Ancient Falmer Tome to http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Urag_gro-Shub......100 points

  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Impatience_of_a_Saint: Collect the ten missing pages of http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Jiub Opus...... ( all ten pages and quest completed) 500 points...0 points otherwise

  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Lost_to_the_Ages: Search for the Dwemer's http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Aetherium_Forge.......500 points

  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Soul_Cairn_Horse_Quest: Find http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Arvak's skull........100 points ( remember actually using this raises conjuration)

  • http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Surgery: Change your appearance....( this must be done via quest NOT showracemenu )....100 points

I'll add this part to the rules tomorrow morning. I gave "impatience" and "Lost" the 500 points because I think they are harder and deserve the extra points.

Careful Sakiri.....it could all get reported by a certain 'someone' as off topic...like last time eh

Ske3Lz there is no penalty for doing other questlines, but not points either. So you can still get your shouts etc.

A skill book gives one point...you can have two points without penalty....so yeah....look em up....or dont risk book reading.

I am not going to get far in this round....I'll tell you that for nothing....I did good in my short practice.....but that was only the first area..... Dimhollow. Its the damn life drain that gets ya......in a few seconds you're dead.....and they are still doing it even in pursuit.

I just took my current test character through Dimhollow. Well, sort of. Took Lydia in, made it through to the point just after fighting the

Spoiler
gargoyles

with no death occurring. Difficulty was Legendary, and the char level was 28. However,

Spoiler
Serana

now will not interact with my character. She stands there normally and not in combat stance, but I see her spells readied and glowing in her hands. She won't answer any activation except if I go into follower command mode, and then all she says is "I can't do everything for you". I had this issue once before, but I can't remember how I resolved it.

I sure hope I get it figured out before the competition, eh? :D

I was wondering if there are ever more than two skill books for a particular skill... I can't remember ever seeing more, but that doesn't mean much with my memory.

It became a habit to collect all the books i find. All my characters have the Library wing filled with books at Lakeview. I guess i'll have to print the database with all the skill books out there. There are 5 books for each skill.

I know those Master Vampires are a pain for Warrior characters. I'll have to come up with something before even trying Dimhollow.

Thanks for the info... Both of you! I know quite a few of the books, but I'd guess there are a LOT of them I'm unfamiliar with. Some, like "thief" and "Begger" are easy to guess the skill based on the title, but others like "the Warrior's Charge" are more deceitful.

Skill books are always worth 50+ gold. You can have your follower pick them up for you if you don't feel like checking.

Upon death, is it over?

Or

Are we returning as zombie,,wraith, ghost etc with corresponding enforced level drops?

For the uninitiated...

We had a "retry system" in place (for longer more involved rounds to alleviate boredom for the early dead)

If you died you could restart (from Helgen, level 1)but were labelled a zombie and HAD to drop one difficulty level.

Die again, and you became a 'wraith' and dropped another difficulty level.

With the difficulty modifiers in place, this punished failure by making the deceased work through more quests to regain their previous scores, but by dropping a level it also made it easier to make progress.

It was a very fair way to ensure maximum scores for those willing to put the effort in.....but allowed those knocked out to get back in with a suitable penalty. Crucially...the score that counted for competition was the BEST score taken from ANY of your attempts.

So....well.....that's how it worked!

Are we doing it again....or going sudden death knockout?

Rick... a redo is fine...I think it's a long enough time period to try again if one get's dead early. With the lvl drops.

Rules... people we need to start a list of the rules for our DiD competitions... one's that can be copy/ pasted from round to round.. one's that make sense for the way we play.. not nessessarily the way other people play other games.

Here is a list so far... feel free to tear them apart and reword so that they are clearer to everyone.

1. No forbidden mods (That give players advantage) If you are new to this, post your mod list in a spoiler tag

2. No reloading previous saves even if character did not die (unless a glitch occurred).

3. No map based fast travel. Only carriages ar permited

4. Once in Helgen Keep, DiD rules apply (You must go through the cart cut-scene!).

5. No follower/trainer exploit.

6. Update at least once every 3 day

7. One follower and one dog .... ( quest followers must be taken strait to their objective)

* added as a note to this round ( Serana will not allow an additional follower "vanilla" after a certain point...so even though mod's allow for it, you must send your other followers home)

8. NO use of Exploit's... of any type... <<<~~~ this may need more clarification... if so... a list is good

9. No Fortify/ Restoration looping

Lookin' good hon....so is the list :blush:

Seriously.....ok....apart from a couple of typos. The whole human to whisp difficulty drop and points modifiers could be a "standard play" rule set, since we seem to like it....so included by default unless a specific round negates it.

Yes no8 should have examples in a spoiler box to be clear what is meant by an exploit.......but equally it needs clarifying that bugs and glitches are infact reloadable issues (or someone will ask). I would NOT go as far as the original DiD rules and give exemptions for domestic interferences...if you don't pause the game when the kids or partner start larking about that's a failure by the player....not a game fault!

Ummmmm........"must go through the cart cut scene" needs amending for the likes of a certain well to do personality who "simply can't be seen in the company of that disreputable Lokir fellow darling" (hear that like Liz Hurley and its spot on). I was also going to say also for sixy too, but I think she undergoes a fresh recreation for each round.
