Did Cutter know?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:42 am

So, after getting bored with Skyrim and popping in my copy of Oblivion, I decided to pay a not-so-friendly visit to Crucible in the Shivering Isles. It was the middle of the night in-game, and as many of you know, there is a "fight club" that takes place on one of the rooftops. I, being in a villainous mood, decided to kill one of the combatants mid-fight. I got a sneak attack with my bow, scoring an instant kill. Suddenly Cutter, the other fighter, stops attacking and says, "Kneecaps! Go for the knees!" I couldn't help it. I burst out laughing. Bethesda, you sly dogs. You put references to future memes in your previous games, didn't you?

I thought you already had SI?

But yeah, Cutter did know about Skyrim. After all, if you go to the other smith and come back immediately she already knows you were there, and there is no other way for her to know that if she wasn′t a clairvoyant

True that. It reminds me of this one book in Skyrim. I think it was called "Chance's Folly" or something. It was about a thief who hired a madman to help her rob a tomb, and the madman knew all about the traps they would face because Sheogorath told him. Anyways, the thief ended up getting trapped in the treasure room with no way out, and went insane. So perhaps Sheogorath told Cutter about the future in which injured adventurers can get easy jobs as city guards.

Emil Pagliarulo wrote the line in at the last minute according to a http://kotaku.com/5886648/how-they-came-up-with-skyrims-arrow-in-the-knee-line?utm_campaign=socialflow_kotaku_facebook&utm_source=kotaku_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow.

I know Emil worked with Bethesda for Oblivion, but I don't know how much influence he had in the expansions (he was the writer for FO3 which was in full development at the time).

What's my point? I think it's just happenstance. We already know that these particular characters are a reference to Palahniuk's novel Fight Club, and I don't think there is anything else to garner from it.

But that's just me I guess being the poop on the party. :hehe:

Cutter is kind of interesting, but scary. She’ll cut your throat if you go see that other smith.

I've had Shivering Isles since the day it came out but I've never played it. I'm just as ignorant about all this as you are.

It's brilliant mate, we are in it now - (Niamh for the second time) - I would live there IRL, seriously! :D

There's really no knowing what Cutter knows. In fact maybe it's better that way... she is scary weird, even for Shivering Isles.

Absolutely, we visited much earlier in Niamh's career when she was not long out of prison and very new to Cyrodiil, now we're back with V and making real progress...

P.S. - I - (the narrator) - think she - (Cutter) - has lovely eyes... ;)

Now don't get me wrong, I am very glad there are several layers of reality between her and me, but nevertheless - from a safe distance - she's quite cute.
(One gets the feeling however that were one to "pair up" as it were that the outcome would be painful and would probably require several weeks of psychotherapy. Nurse!! My Pills!!)...
