Did Marukh dance on the Staff of Chaos?

Post » Sun Sep 19, 2010 5:38 am

So, yeah. 2 topics in 24 hours. I'm on a bit of a lore thing at the moment. :)

I've been reading http://www.imperial-library.info/fsg/nazzarticle4.shtml and http://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/complete_dragonbroke.shtml, and I noticed that Marukh supposedly danced on a Tower, which could have also been a staff, which broke into eight pieces (which I guess represent the 8 Divines). This seems pretty similar to the Staff of Chaos, which was forged from the essence of the land (according to the http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Staff_of_Chaos), which also broke into 8 pieces.
I assume the "essence of the land" refers to the Earthbones (which if I recall correctly, are the Aedra, or at least the embodiments of them), so it seems to me like the two staffs could be one and the same.

Am I on to something here?
Or I dunno. Maybe I need to lay off the sugar. :D

Earthbones are different Ada from Aedra. They gave themselves entirely unto creation while the Aedra were more fiscal with their gifts.

not necessarily, the "essence of the land" could easily mean Aedra as they are (being alive) the most visible of the Et' Ada.

There were no Towers or Aedra or Marukhati. Marukh is a Daggerfall creation, and only posessed the title 'prophet,' there. No mention is made of the Marukhati or the Imga until the first PGE.

So, no. That doesn't mean its eight 'essences of the land' hasn't influenced current lore.

But here's something:
The Motheaters Song

Who controls the Septim crown?
Who keeps the Allesian Heresy down?
We do, we do

Who knocked Yokuda off the maps?
Who keeps the Dwemer under wraps?
We do, we do

Who dances a little dance and does not tell?
Who breaks time and thinks it's swell?
We do, we do

Who spills coffee on the Chaos Staff?
Who makes the Truth Monkeys laugh?
We do, we do

Sounds like something MK would say, but I can't say I've heard it before. Looks good, but any chance of a source? Thanks.

On an unrelated note, your supposed avatar doesn't show up for me. Thought you might want to know

Anyway, on topic, I had always thought they meant a tower. Specifically I was under the impression it had been White Gold. But I can't say I've studied that much.

i'm pretty sure subadim made it up.

i agree that it was most likely the white gold tower, as it was smack in the middle of alessian territory. however, iirc, the tower "appeared" for them, which could hint at it being the staff of chaos. my biggest problem with it is that the staff isnt very...cool.

Even if it was the Staff of Chaos that was danced upon, how could that have resulted in a Dragon Break?

And why would pieces of the Aedra rip a hole into a realm of Oblivion? I don't understand that. So I'v always assumed that they danced on White-gold, since It is on one of the 8 imperial Islands in Rumare (using pre-oblivion lore)

No, no, no, I didn't make that up, it's in the http://www.imperial-library.info/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1226517265. Page 4, I think. Darkom's huch is correct.

Only a cult of I R Baboon devotees could break time.

By the way, in Tamriel, the number of angels that can dance on the head of pin is eight.

It's a modified version of the Stonecutters song from The Simpsons. :D
