Did I mess up my efficent build

Post » Fri Aug 05, 2011 12:53 pm

Hey guys I'm trying to do my first efficient Mage Build, from start went Mage, Breton, Apprentice. My major skills are 1. Armory, 2. Alchemy, 3. H2H, 4. Blade, 5. Myst, 6. Heavy Armor, 7. Marksman. My two start bonuses were Endurance for additional max health and Intelligence.

Willpower~I've been using Destruction and some Restoration to push Willpower (one problem is I'm pushing them too much I'm averaging 18 point by the time I get END ready to go),

INT~I'll use conjure dagger to push Intelligence, only up to around 6 each level, and get my other 4 INT points from, Alchemy and Myst, detect life spam

END~I have been just wearing Heavy Armor because it just levels so slow I haven't had a problem with it. Same with randomly repairing my armor. I can typically get 4-6 in each by the time I'm ready to level but it has been slow. I get the other points from blocking a random bandit. Once I top out END, I'll be at the level where I'll want to wear the higher tier mage stuff.

I have two questions is there anyway to speed up END skills to match my Willpower levels without screwing up my play-through too much? I suppose making a mage specialty defeats that purpose. . .

Second question, did I screw up by not using a personality spam as a major skill? The reason I ask this question is because my Myst and Alchemy are already high from beginning bonuses will this be my constraint on leveling?

So far I've found this to be much easier to control than I thought it would be.

For pure mage you want:

Race: Breton

Gender: /

Birthsign: Mage

Skills: Alteration / Conjuration / Destruction / Restoration / Illusion / Mysticism / Alchemy obviously. But for a more effective battle mage replace mysticism and Alchemy with blade and I would choose sneak. Alchemy is never required as a major and mysticism is the least useful, but just get a lol level one from Edgar Vautrine before he demands your money. This set up requires dedication with all of the schools, and just pick whatever ingredients you find (and take) and just mash them up with a M/P. This should get you to apprentice where you should be able to make half valuable potions for money.

My choice anyway, however my class uses marksman instead of Illusion, and I only use blade for assassinations.

Hope I helped :P

Feel free to flame this set up peoplez

Well, no. Alteration, Destruction, and Restoration are all of the WIL skills, and Conjuration, Mysticism, and Alchemy are all of the INT skills. So by definition that is not a good build for efficient leveling.

For efficient leveling you want at most TWO, and never three, of the skills governed by any attribute to be major skills. That way you can increase the third (minor) skill to get further increases toward your +5 when you level.

Re: END, find some mudcrabs and just stand there blocking their attacks, heal yourself, and then repair the armor, rinse repeat. And/or get training at The Best Defense in the IC.

Re: PER, you could probably have put Mercantile there, but that's about it; Illusion and Speechcraft go up super fast when you use them and then you'd just be wasting increases. I don't think it's a problem anyway, and at some point your class has to make sense thematically.

That is a good build, I like that you didn't put Destruction as a major since that goes up super fast from use (at least it does when I play a mage, ymmv). Overall there is nothing wrong with your build, if you speed up raising your END a bit you can level efficiently every time.

I didn't read anything about leveling, I just read his set up. That's my efficient mage set up, I don't care about leveling when I play, it comes when it comes.

Yes but the OP is obviously talking about efficient leveling, and your build is not set up for that.
