In some aspects of the game it did. When i first got it i thought its was some awesome [censored]!!! The feeling of the whole game it all went toghether. When i got to the strip i thought it was a little disappointing. But it got worse from there...the lack of enemies, exploration, static factions. Not to mention the repeatability factor started to go down. The bugs and glitches were not completely fixed which gets annoying. Dont get me wrong its a good game but its nothing to get totally hyped about. The ratings it gets now are where they should stay and not go any higher.

Its worth the money to get. But dont expect tons out of it...

Ohh yah and...

yer thats all true . i thought it was great at first but after a while there was bugs in the game i was freezing alot and nothing really seemed new it felt like a big DLC pack for fallout 3
which was abit of a shame really

I like it (what I've seen of it anyway). Its about what I expected, better in some instance, worse in others. :shrug:

On the whole ~like Fallout 3, its a good game on its own merits... but its not what I'd want of a in a Fallout game; but it will have to do.

My expectations were low to begin with, so yes it did meet them; why, I dare say it even exceeded them because I wasn't actually expecting Obsidian to follow the design philosophy of the first two games.

The trailers, screenshots, and news gave me huge expectations. ...I mean it's a really good game that I enjoy a lot. But there's some stuff lacking that I expected.

Cool companions. Lots of new guns. Weapon mods. Blue skies. The Vegas strip. Lots of [censored] to explore. A new Fallout adventure.

It's safe to say that New Vegas has met every single one of my expectations.

Yes, it did live up to my expectations. I expected (though did not hope for) more of Fallout 3, only made better, and that's exactly what I got. The general gameplay is still a bit dull and the skills/stats still lack certain punch I would've liked them to have (+ some other complaints), but the overall writing and atmosphere are so much better than those of Fallout 3's, and reminiscent of the first two games, that I could - at least to a certain degree - overlook some of the things I didn't (don't) like. And even despite my list of gripes, New Vegas was still one of the top cRPG experiences I had in years.

I all reality no it did not. Coming into this series during fo3 I was spoiled with a rpg/action adventure/stradigy/survival horrer/open world shooter, with a story line that made me feel in the game. The detail that went into the DC area was great. There was never a lack of things to do, and the single ending provided room for a dlc that showed me the short term success of what my people had accomplished.

In fo nv I was expecting more of the same. I did not get that, what I got was an open world rpg. Very little was added in for "mindless exploring" Too many buildings r boarded up, places I can go into that r not involved with any quests are not worth going to. The freezing and choppiness past 8500kb of info have made me not want to play it all any more really. The 27 endings ruined the feel of it for me. They r flawed and feel cheap. CL is the weakest fighting force I have seen in 24 years of playing video games. All that being said I still have over 500hrs of game play in it and it was a goodgame

Games like these can either impress or disappoint without it actually having anything to do with the game quality.

Anyone picked up Fallout 3 lately? It's completely different, even though the two use the same engine. Fallout 3 has rather boring quests and objectives, virtually no story, but outstanding exploration and scenery. Fallout New Vegas has outstanding story, quests and decent NPC interaction, but exploration is kinda lackluster. Having said that, someone who came into the series on Fallout 3 may be disappointed, simply because they expected more Fallout 3. Same goes with those who went from Morrowind to Oblivion: a lot of die-hard Morrowind fans who fell in love with the game absolutely hate Oblivion. Does Oblivion deserve that much hate though? Of course any game is open for criticism, but a lot of the hate it gets is due to the disappointment at it being unique.

Overall, I think Fallout New Vegas met expectations. I get frustrated with deciding which decisions and which endings I think are the most morally correct, but I have fun playing the game all otherwise and the politics of it do keep me thinking. At first, I did miss the constantly-surprising exploration that Fallout 3 had to offer, but Fallout New Vegas has it's own slower-paced exploration factor that can still be fun and interesting, if given a chance.

And as for things like "the Strip doesn't have enough people," of course it doesn't. These are the engine limits with live with today, unfortunately.

No, it did not.
My mind decided to blow it out of proportions of good it was gonna be.

A couple of things:

Too little Legion content.
Too little Khans involvement.
Too little stuff to do in Freeside and especially on The Strip and in the casino's.
And I honestly thought the gameworld was gonna be different, more dynamic, more alive, instead it was static as hell with nothing happening in it.
I also thought disguises were gonna be more of a use when it's barely only useful for NCR if you're vilified with them.

So no, it did not live up to my expectations.
It's still a great game, it's my own fault for hyping it up too much.

More gang involvement.
More warfare against NCR.
More shady missions for them.
More hostage situations by them.
More kidnappings.
I thought they were gonna ravage Vegas' surrounding area as a great raider tribe.
Instead they're closed off in some mountains barely able to support themselves, selling drugs to the Fiends and barely being able to put up a fight.
They also got this huuuuge base and little to nothing to do in it.

post apocolyptia is my thing and what drew me to fallout 3 in the first place, i loved the desolation tinged with survival horror, and it is one of my favourite games. i love the step up in gameplay in new vegas, dt, crafting, hardcoe and the like. it still needs work but it's definitely the right idea. for me though the wild west drenched in politics is a deviation from my tastes. i understand the logic of the timeline ingame and the progression of the ncr and civilization, but i'm not driven on by the same dread of staying in one place too long after you are literally forced out into the dangerous unknown in fallout 3. once i'd neutralised joe cobb goodsprings felt cosy enough for me to retire my shotgun and end my days beside sunny smiles. having said that, i've played it continually since release and probably will until fallout 4.

Yes it did live up to my expectations. If I did not spend so much time on the forum getting info on the making of New Vegas I might have had higher expectations.

Multiple endings based on my actions
The Game is not black and white
So many options, dialogue wise and in who you want to help.
Great story, great over all writing.
Traits

What I am not happy with has little to do with the Devs but the limitations of the Game Engine. Character creation system including the special. If New Vegas had skills maxed at 300, Skilled Trait, Levelling taking greater and greater xp everytime. I would have been even happier

My expectations were lived up to with New Vegas.

I agree with all of the above. As much as New Vegas is great and I still love it, it definetly let me down on some parts.

My biggest dissapointment was probably the strip, I expected more. More quests, more people, more lights, more vendors, more games, more atmosphere. I just felt it wasn't what it could have been :confused:

So alot of nv could have made fo3 better, but alot of fo3 could have made nv better. I can not live with not knowing what happened at the end. They should have had a canon ending, and your player dies at the end of all the others. Multiple endings must be thought out more as well. To many bases were left uncovered.

Yes, it absolutely did. I'm still playing it and it came out last October. I have other games going too but FNV is a huge favorite. One of my favorite things is the companions. I didn't have much in the way of expectations about them because all I had to go on was FO3 and Oblivion and those are nothing like we have in FNV. I enjoy doing each of their personal stories and as I've said before, some are very compelling. With great writing like that, my expectations were far surpassed. My one thing I have a problem with now is that at higher levels, the wasteland is too empty. With the mods I've gotten, that problem is fixed. Who knows, maybe it will be fixed in the next patch too. Anyway, some day when there's a Fallout 4 or 5, I hope they just build on all the great writing in FNV and the great gameplay I believe we're going to have with the new engine in Skyrim. :)

Not really, no, but then my expectations were perhaps unreasonably high for a game that, with hindsight, is a pretty good effort given the quick development cycle. I hoped for much more, but Bethesda have been making open-world games for decades and it was unrealistic to expect Obsidian to match them at their first attempt. It's a good game in it's own right and was well worth the money I paid for it though, even though it wasn't quite finished at release.

I'm sure they would have to get an ok from Bethesda before choosing which ending is canon. Besides, Bethesda usually confirms whats canon in later games, not during them. Unless its going to be Daggerfall all over again and all endings happened as canon.

On topic:
It just barely met my expectations. Like others have said, I'd like there be more to do in the strip.

As for exploration, I liked what there was, though some places (i.e.caves) needed to be bigger. Of course this may just be only because of time constraints leaving things left undone and cutting content like Ulysses' involvement in the main story. I just hope the next opportunity Bethesda lets them make another game, they give them more time.

I would have liked a more unforgiving SPECIAL implementation and hardcoe mode. Also return of multiple damage types with their respective DT/DR resistances on armor.
