Did people want TES V to take place in Skyrim?

Post » Sat Aug 27, 2011 3:27 am

I recently posted a poll asking which province would be the best location for TES VI, with Black Marsh as the winner by a landslide. Since i am relatively new to the forums, i started wondering, what province/area were fans most pushing for after Oblivion? was it Skyrim? or somewhere else? where would you have wanted it to be? discuss

I think it was a toss-up between Elsweyr and Summerset Isle before the trademark on Skyrim was discovered back in early 2008 (Before FO3's release), then we all said SKYRIMSKYRIMSKYRIM!

This needs to be moved. not to sound like an Argonian fan but, I wish it was in Black Marsh (Fast-travel by giant worm for the win.

a lot of people expressed anger about it before the game was announced and said that it would be All-Snow

I didn't. At the time Valenwood was my choice, now I'm more Argonia or Elsweyr. I didn't want Skyrim because it's too similar to the European fantasy style of Arena, Daggerfall and Oblivion.

I was heavily active and in fact didn't post anywhere else but in the "next" game thread, and I actually think that prior to the bandwagon that was Skyrim, there was a huge push towards the Black Marsh. Myself, I was always a Summerset Isles fan, but that was because I was also a Morrowind fan...

I'd been hoping for Summerset Isle as well, if only because I generally prefer Morrowind's use of being on an island* to limit the playing area to Oblivion's use of invisible walls. Though the latter wasn't intrusive enough for me to be bothered too much. Skyrim works.

*Elder Scrolls VI: One of those "small island kingdoms that lie between Tamriel and Akavir"! :P

Black Marsh (nothing to do with poll) was where I actually wanted TES V to take place, solely as the idea of a swamp filled land seems interesting.

Skyrim is a blessing as I actually always play Nord as my main character. I'm looking forward to the game and it seems like an interesting place. They've taken Oblivion and improved greatly on race appearance and environment. The towns and the fact you can work is great.

I wanted Skyrim, but I also heard a lot of rumors about it being named Empire, which I thought would have been great cause the name makes you think that it could have taken place throughout all of Tamriel.

After playing Anequina Elsweyr mod for Oblivion, I wanted TES V to take place in Elsweyr. I'm happy with Skyrim thought.

just watched a youtube vid of the mod. very impressive.

The big thing is the designer missed out all the jungle side to Elsweyr. A large percentage of Elsweyr is jungle

Some of the land looks to me more how I'd imagine Hammerfell to look. Especially the square concrete houses like the ones we see in North Africa and the Middle East.

That is why it is called http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:AnequinaElsweyr, which is only half of Elsweyr (the other half is called http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Pellitine) :grad:

I wanted Black Marsh.
Any excuse to further my knowledge of Argonian lore.

That said, I -love- snowy terrain in games so I'm not complaining much, especially seeing the gameplay trailer.

ok, that explains.

How I imagine Pellitine to be is like something out the Jungle Book cartoon and Anequina is to be similar to somewhere like like Rajasthan.
With silk & spice caravans of camels and hordes of assassins and thieves to watch out for. Cities with busy marketplaces overlooked by guards in chainmail and curved swords protecting the merchants from an underworld of thieves guilds and skooma dens.

Hammerfell I imagine to be just desert and more North African with square stone buildings like that in Egypt or the old Bible stories from school and having more African influences. That with a bit of ancient Mediterranean influence of places like Egypt.

The Redguard remind me of Hannibal and the ancient Carthaginians who are famous for riding their war elephants up against Rome (the Empire)

When I watch the start of Redguard I see it as mirroring that of Romes history against ancient Carthage. Even the names are similar.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mMNZ7G0cBI
High Rock is like the Celtic lands of Europe to the NW of Rome and Skyrim is like the Germanic lands to the far North.

That just my interpretation of it.

I always say that the proven success to a good fantasy / rpg universe is to base it on the history and cultures we know so it allows our minds to be able to change and bend it into any way we want.

Hail to you Talos!
I would give you a fishy stick but i dont have one either :(.

Look man, we're talking about the elder scrolls here. THE ELDER FREAKING SCROLLS. no matter where they take place they will always be good.
But i admit, i wanted it to take place in high rock. Daggerfall is just unplayable for me. Sorry, but its true.

My concern now is that the devs won't even listen to where we want the next game to be, despite the fact that there are always topics about it.

Well, going by what we saw in Redguard, and the general impression of the lore and all that, it would seem to me that Hammerfell is more based off Middle-Eastern and Islamic style, also a lot of Northern African stuff, like on the Barbary coast.

and Elsweyr would be a bit more Indian and Egyptian/African inspired with a bit of all-round desert/jungle styled stuff.

with probably the Indian stuff being more to the South and the African stuff more to the North in the desert part.

Have they ever listened? To my knowledge, is not them who make those threads.

As for me, I didn't really pay any mind to where the next game would be, but I am happy with the choice, since I do like the nords.

yer But if you look at the Redguard game and the Daggerfall game I think its more Berbary coast before Islam influenced as the Arabian Islamic architecture came later from a more eastern Influence which came about via the Persians before them.
Buildings in North Africa before Islam were much more blocky then and had some of the same Mediterranean influences that were on early Rome and were similar to the square houses in ancient Egypt.

I always think of Elsweyr as India as India is the only country with both lions, tigers leopards and most other big cats which basically what the Khajiit are based upon. India also has both desert and jungle like Elsweyr.
A lion or a tigers is also the symbol used and associated by all the Indian countries as their mascot. India tends to be a tiger though a lion is also used. Sri Lanka is a lion.
As seen by the tiger mascot for the Indian commonwealth games 2010
