Did PES finally get buried?

Post » Sun May 18, 2014 3:42 am

The poor corpse of PES has lain silent for a while but today no matter how much I prod it I'm not getting any movement

I can get into the articles page for PES but not view the files pages, not for Morrowind, Oblivion or any direct link to a file - I just get a no data received message :(

Maybe a server backup is running so I don't want to cry the sky is falling - I think all the mods were backed up to GHF mod history in any case

Still I hope it's just a temporary hiccup many people still download from there - anyone else having issues with access?

So here's a trick I found. Although the PAGES don't load, the download links still work, so the following method should work for at least the next couple of days. Obviously this will only work until Google updates its cache.

(1) find a link to the mod you want on PES.

(2) right click the link and click "copy link location"

(3) paste the url into google

(4) opened the cached version of the mod page on PES

(5) click the download link on the cached version of the PES page for the mod

I tried this for a few different mods earlier today and the download links worked.

I noticed that yesterday, as I was checking on my mods. We all knew it would eventually happen, still sad though. :(

I certainly hope not, I have a TON of mods that I still want to download but haven't gotten around to yet.

Well, time to archive on my USB just in case.

MMH has all of the mods form PES that were availible for Download over a year ago.

If you need to find a mod that was availible on PES then it can be found on MMH now, so you can still get all of the mods that you wanted.

EDIT: I have been able to 1) get into the Morrowind mods section of PES today,

2) Download a mod just two minutes ago.

So it's not quite dead yet, just very very slow to load.

And if it's not on MMH yet, someone has a back-up, it just hasn't got uploaded yet.

Ok - so I finally got in - it is going very slow - I would have given up if someone hadn't said it was just slow - suspect it is time for last drinks at that bar though - shame even though it's been closed a while I still like to search through the mods there - it was home for a long time

IIRC http://www.fliggerty.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=85525#p85525 was archived by Fligg almost 2 years ago.

If a mod (uploaded on PES) cannot be downloaded on MMH then it means that the permissions doesn't allow redistribution, but the mod is still archived on MMH. SH or Drakkmore might have more information.

Yeah Fligg grabbed the entire PES Database, but a portion of the PES Database was already defunct, and the files were already no longer availible through PES.

Spirithawke, and his stewards have put a great deal fo effort to find all of the mods that PES no longer had files for in order to remove them from the MMH distribution area, in hopes of finding the mods that go with those enteries. However some times one still comes up in a search, so if you do get one that has no file attatched please inform the MMH staff and they will do what they can to remidy the situation. As Leo stated there were other mods that were removed from MMH distribution due to Authors not wanting them on MMH, and permissions denied, but Spirithawke, and his stewards are doing their best to remidy that situation too.
