Did I really mess my game up?

Post » Sat Mar 20, 2010 11:46 pm

I was exploring on my own after saving Kvach and messing around Anvil when I found Miscarcand. I decided to go in and loot the place. To make a long story short I finally defeated the King of Miscarcand and the Zombie Guardians so I got to keep the Great Welkynd Stone I found there. It is apparently Quest related so I looked it up on UESPwiki.for just enough info on it so I would not spoil too much in the future since this is my first time playing Oblivion.. Is it really true I messed up the Main Quest? I think I have a save right before I entered Miscarcand but I would hate to lose the time I put into it. It is a shame I can't put the Great Welkynd stone on display until I need it.

Any insight and information will be appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think you should be able to just carry it around with you until it's needed for the main quest. As a quest item it should have 0 weight anyway.

Unfortunately there is a bug that causes a problem later on. It is fixable on the PC. And in theory not game breaking.

This is from the wiki bugs section, I deleted a few very minor spoilers. But the key is that there is a point where it is helpful if Martin puts on some armor.

* Getting the Great Welkynd Stone prematurely. It is possible to acquire the Great Welkynd Stone before even reaching this part of the main quest. If you pick up the Great Welkynd Stone, it is permanently kept in your inventory as a quest item and Martin will immediately take it from you. However, giving both the Armor of Tiber Septim and the Great Welkynd Stone to Martin at the same time results in a glitch that, while not game-breaking, will be a great hindrance later on in the main quest. With both items in your inventory, there is no interruption in the dialogue between handing the two over, causing the script where Martin [minor spoilers deleted]

o Before you give the Armor of Tiber Septim to Martin, you must remove the Great Welkynd Stone from your inventory, using the command player.removeitem 000345AF 1 to remove it. After handing over the armor, use the code player.additem 000345AF 1 to return the stone to your inventory. You will get a journal entry; Martin should don his armor, then talk to him again to turn over the stone.
o Another workaround is to type player.setstage MQ12 30, causing Martin to don his armor. (If you want to get all the journal entries, you can instead type the following three commands: player.setstage MQ12 10, player.setstage MQ12 20, and finally player.setstage MQ12 30).
[deleted]
o On the Xbox 360 or PS3 versions of the game, the best surrogate workaround is to reverse pickpocket permanent Bound Armor and Weapons into Martin's inventory
o PC Only This bug is fixed by the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.

And if you want the minor spoilers, it's helpful if Martin puts on Armor because

Spoiler
you need to keep him alive during the battle for Bruma, and it's easier if he has some armor on.

Yeah, I've done this. Do not panic, it stays as an undroppable quest item until Martin asks for it. Then quit the conversation with him, and the quest will update after a few seconds. Talk to him again, job done.

@ Savlian, Oh, Idid it on the xbox and had no problems

I have not taken Martin back to the Priory yet so will he ask for it after I take him there or later. Does the UOP fix this or would it be better if I load up my old save and move on? The King of Miscarcand was my toughest fight so far for my lvl 6 Breton Sith Lord and it was very rewarding when I won the fight. He svcked all my magicka away and all I had to fight him with was my steel shortsword and a lot of healing potions. I was lucky I picked up a couple other steel shortswords in the ruin because I broke my first one on him.

I am playing on pc and I thank you guys for your quick responses. I might do what zen1966 but I will probably forget to to quit the conversation and let the quest update. ( I tend to do things like that.)

the problem comes during the Great Gate quest. martin won't put on his armor and that makes him easier to kill. so you should get as many allies as possible to defend martin at the great gate site. you can get reinforcements at most cities. plus one if you are head of the mage guild and two if you are heard of the dark brotherhood guild and one if you have the fighter's stronghold plugin.

I've never had the Xbox glitch, at all. It is as Dragutus says above, it becomes a zero-weight quest item, and Martin always puts on armor at the battle, at least for me.
