Did I screw Up? [Dragonborn DLC]

Post » Tue Oct 20, 2015 10:12 pm

Whats-his-name (Telvanni Wizard) wants me to help him with his research, collecting Ash Spawn specimens. I've already taken care of the old Imperial dude in his fort that was calling them.

I've ventured extensively about Solstheim and no Ash Spawns are... well... spawning. Will they spawn now that General Fax(?) is dead?

The wall outside Raven Rock should have plenty of ash spawn if you haven't already completed March of the Dead.

You can still extract the sample from the remains of an ash spawn killed prior to starting the quest, so if you have completed March of the Dead, you'll likely still be able to find their remains outside of the city walls.

Searching the corpse of an ash spawn should bring up the option to use the extractor. After using it, return to Neloth for you reward.

I'm pretty sure they should as I would likely remember something like that, and there's no mention of it on the UESP website as far as I can tell (though I just woke up so perhaps you'll want to look yourself). Seems like some strange kind of bug as far as I can tell. You're on PC though, so maybe someone can help you with/convince you to use a console command(s) to get them spawning again.

Pretty sure they're still around after Falx Carius' death, just harder to find.

Try Highpoint Tower or the Temple's ancestral tomb if you haven't cleared them yet. Maybe there are still some ash spawn bodies outside Raven Rock you can extract. Wouldn't want to dissapoint master Neloth.

Neloth is just too lazy to walk the cliffs behind His Mushroom :stare:

Many of the sites have them in them. Just keep wandering from the mushrooms.

Since this is the spoilers section: the ash spawn aren't connected to Falx Carius as a source, rather he's effectively just another of them, retaining human form. The real instigator of the infestation is the subject of a later quest from Neloth. Even completing that one doesn't totally end them.

You can collect the sample from a long-dead Ash Spawn provided you go back before the cell resets. So you have several days to collect from the ones near the farm.

Thanks for that insight!

Yea, there would have been older "remains", but I had trekked back to the mainland a couple of times so they had been cleaned up :)

Ash spawn still... well... spawn even after the person in question is dispatched. They're just random monster creep which can be co-opted with fiddlings upon a heart stone. They're a great source for precious gems and ores.

....And they can be a bit of a challenge at lower levels. I had to leave and come back at a later level because those constant fireball spells svck. Bad.

AIBquirky - glad that you found what you were looking for. I try to avoid them like the plague :)
