No. Not a top 5 material.

No idea where it would eventually drop if I started listing games I consider better.

1. Minecraft
2. Civilization 4
3. Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim (joint honours for now, still too soon to pick between the three)
4. Guild Wars
5. Ocarina of time/Majora's Mask/Wind Waker (too hard to choose between the 3)
...
6. Rome Total War
7. L4D/L4D2
8. HL2
9. TF2
10. Far Cry

... Top 5 is way too limiting ._.

"Until something better comes out."
Now that's pretty obvious isn't it?

Of all time? I can never answer that. Filtering out nostalgia is just too hard. And then you have to figure out what might be nostalgia, what might just be changing tastes. And nostalgia versus novelty. I loved a game greater than any game I've loved before. But I can't play it now. Is it because I played it too much, the systems are too dated, or my tastes have changed? Should that matter? Woe be to my complex decision making processes.

This... for me some games like System Shock 2 or UFO: Enemy Unknown are immovable objects in the list even though if you gave the same games to a random 16 year old, he wouldn't be able to get into it at all due to graphics differences.

Still, it's likely to stay as a firm favourite for a long time to come. Mass Effect 3 will be a good diversion; but is ultimately only a short lived affair being story driven foremost, X: Rebirth and Guild Wars 2 being the only upcoming titles that may pry me away for a considerable period

I'm quite old so I have a long list of games that I've enjoyed more than Skyrim. However, if I enjoy Skyrim well enough for long enough, I daresay it'll make it in. Be a tough battle though.

You think that's bad? I'd probably place the game Archon pretty highly on my list and I played that on an Atari 800. It might be nostalgia talking, but they are fond memories.

Fantastic game but not even close to my top 10. Its hard to put games in order because of different genres. But my top 10 includes the likes of: Final Fantasy 7, HoMM3, Ocarina of Time, Civ4 and Baldur's Gate 2.

It would rank a lot higher if I hadn't already played this game a few times before. After Oblivion and Bethesda's Fallout games, I can't shake the feeling I've been down this road already.

Agreed. X-Com UFO Defense is firmly ensconced alongside Starflight 2, purely nostalgia based.

Skyrim in my top 5? If I never played any game, than yes. Everything beat that crap.

I will not know until I finish the game completely. Right now my top 5:

1) Dragon Quest VIII
2) Neverwinter Nights
3) Okami
4) Final Fantasy IX
5) Icewind Dale

Skyrim may make it in (especially if they fix the issues) but I do not rate my games until I completely finish them. I have a lot of other good games to play too.. (Mass Effect 2 - never played it, Uncharted 1 / 2 / 3 - never played them)

1) Okami
2) Skyrim
3) Fallout: New Vegas
4) Ristar
5) Hogs of War

Something like that at least.

Okami ftw! That game is a work of art.

Maybe top 5 this year, but not of all time. If I picked it up on 360, I could probably put it in the top 5 for the system. But I don't think it can stand up against the likes of Planescape: Torment, Outcast, Star Control 2, FF Tactics or Carmageddon (I know, Carma seems out of place, but that game was just so much fun!).

As good as Skyrim is, it is lacking in depth, story, character and mechanics.
