true. but it really puts all of the complaints in perspective.

Maybe top 5 this year, but not of all time. If I picked it up on 360, I could probably put it in the top 5 for the system. But I don't think it can stand up against the likes of Planescape: Torment, Outcast, Star Control 2, FF Tactics or Carmageddon (I know, Carma seems out of place, but that game was just so much fun!).

As good as Skyrim is, it is lacking in depth, story, character and mechanics.

Oh god how i forgot to mention FF Tactics! That game is simply amazing. I bought that for PS3 too. Definetly in my top 10.

I don't know, I don't keep this kind of list.

Fallout 2 is my favorite game. After that it's just a big jumble of games I really love. Skyrim is among them.

Of all time? I can never answer that. Filtering out nostalgia is just too hard. And then you have to figure out what might be nostalgia, what might just be changing tastes. And nostalgia versus novelty. I loved a game greater than any game I've loved before. But I can't play it now. Is it because I played it too much, the systems are too dated, or my tastes have changed? Should that matter? Woe be to my complex decision making processes.

You make a good point. Anyone that has beend gaming for more than 5 years is bound to have liked a game simply due to it's charm. Judging how such things fare after years is a pretty tough process. I think I can safely say Skyrim is on my top 5 RPG list, but even that is a tough call when I think about all the RPG's i've played (and enjoyed) over the last 20 years.
