Did Skyrim "Ruin" Anythig for You?

Post » Tue Jan 14, 2014 8:58 am

I'm not a longtime Elder Scrolls fan. I mean, I played Morrowind for one hour, and Oblivion for thirty minutes, but I didn't know anything about Tamriel until I played Skyrim.

But looking back, I was wanting to hear it from you, how did you feel about:
-The Mages Guild being disbanded?
-The Dark Brotherhood is horribly ended OR severely weakened and only remain in Skyrim.
-No Fighters Guild.
-Inclusion of Nightingales and Nocturnal in Thieves Guild.
-The Empire being weakened, and losing so much land.
-The fact the Dominion is now the dominant force.
-Vvardenfell is practically destroyed, and the Argonians invaded Morrowins.
-Your view on Skyrim and the Nords.
-The Blades curren status and your new opinion on them.
Etc

It didnt really ruin anything for me. I found it interesting actually. Nothing can last forever you know. Even if you destroy the brotherhood..... the brotherhood quest line actually integrates that particular ending.

The Mage guild made sense. They were in NOOOO position to continue being as influential as they were at the end of Oblvion's quest line. You literally had a revolt over a policy that would only have an impact of very egotistical people with a control complex..... omg that was 90% of the whole guild....

Who needs a fighters guild if you have the companions? Also they were pretty butt hurt over having some competition the first time.

Nocturnal played a role in the thieves guild in Oblivion... big time, her artifact was amazing for that type of player too

It brings new conflict... there have been many empires before.... let us not forget there is no Septim any more, only Medes (well.....)

Karma to the Dark Elves that is all.

Nords seem pretty realistic to me ( I mean look at how the Dark Elves were in Morrowind... and they didnt have war/chaos/etc as an excuse)

The Blades are nothing with out an emperor named Septim

Indifferent, though I am at no loss.

Indifferent, though I am at no loss.

Indifferent, though I am at no loss.

Now, while I did like the fact that Skyrim has its own mercenary organization that is descended from the very same army led by Ysgramor and also has a history which I wish could have been expanded upon, I was not a fan of their portrayal in Skyrim.

I disliked the fact that the game did not give us a choice with regards to serving Nocturnal. I would have aided Mercer Frey if I could.

I never really cared for Cyrodiil nor Tiber Septim anyway.

Eh, it's something different. Though I doubt that the AD or any other nation in Tamriel will ever be as powerful as the Third Empire under the Septim dynasty.

Whatever. It was foreshadowed anyway.

I am not a fan of their portrayal. Yet at the same time, their ancestors reaffirmed my love for them.

Perhaps they may undergo a cultural and societal renaissance with the return of the dragons and the fall of the Empire. *fingers crossed*

Whatever.

I didn't have special expectations lore-wise, I'm not a fan of Nords and their culture, but from a design, gameplay or atmosphere perspective I expected more from Skyrim. I thought real sailing and fishing would be a big thing in a seafarers province, I thought the mountains (especially the Throat of the World) would be much higher and difficult to climb, and I expected cold/freezing/snowstorms to have a strong influence on gameplay.

I love and hate the devastation of Morrowind (particularly Vvardenfell). The Dunmer were kind of dikes, but... they were lovable in their own gritty, xenophobic sort of way. Except for the whole slavery, kill-all-outlanders, "drive out the Imperial mongrel dogs" thing. The Red Year and the Argonian invasion and everything that's been piling up over the last two centuries is tragic, but it's one of those good plot twists that also just so happen to ruin everything you love. At the same time... doesn't all that ash from eruption just make the land more fertile? Isn't the Empire that supposedly ruined Dunmer culture failing, and hasn't the Tribunal fallen? If the Dunmer ever make a comeback, there's a chance it'll be a big one.

At first I was a little confused at the loss of a Fighters Guild, but the Companions more than made up for it. Wish there was a little more to them and their questline, though, but what we have is nice enough.

The downfall of the Empire isn't surprising or particularly devastating, I'll be satisfied with any outcome.

I want to hate the Thalmor, but they have a long history... What they're doing now is pretty much revenge. Doesn't necessarily make it right, but it's understandable.

Skyrim kind of watered down the Nord culture, just like Oblivion, but I can fill in the gaps with my imagination.

Everything else I'm fairly indifferent to.
