Did someone say Dunmer? (WIP)

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 9:17 am

Still, lore or not, I just don't like all the startling fire-engine red eyes staring out of the dark. They look more like Vampires than anything else, to me.

I would hope for more variety, as red can be any color from orange-red to cherry-red to violet-red, with even brown or burnt-red in there. Just as "ash" for skin color has been interpreted as everything from gray to green, despite the fact that the ash storms of the region are most positively reddish-brown.

Mel, my point is, don't get hung up on what other people think is too this or too that. If you like Dunmer with blue skin and red eyes, make them that way. For the record, I've always thought the Klingon-esque brows and beads under the skin were over-the-top as well. If they intended for it to look like ritual scarification, IMHO, they missed the mark.

So far, you're doing great, keep it up!

That has occured to me too all along. I guess the pale skin is the only thing that gives vampire-Dunmers away ;)

These are pretty cool, but IMHO they are a bit heavy on the lipstick/lip gloss. Any chance of toning that down (or removing it completely )?

Chaka, you are completely right. I... how embarrasing - I mistook Sotthilde as a Dunmer from the pix I linked above. Didn't read the name, just watches the skin.

Np at all, no need to me embarrassed :P I post nonsens all the time. :D

Thanks Elaura, I also prefer non-red eyes for Dunmer. My favorite is gray or silver, so I'll do at least one of those, then maybe some blue and green as well. I wasn't planning on doing any brows or beads under the skin or anything, frankly I wouldn't know how to do it, and also I'm not very fond of that look either.

Heh, when it comes to eyes I simply like them to have a red iris, (with glowmaps  I love glowmaps) but not the completly red eyes that most of the originals had.

I've never minded whether or not Dunmer eyes were all red or just had red irises, so long as they are actually just a shade of red somewhere. I like how it sets them apart from other races, similar to how bosmers having mostly black eyes sets them apart. The beads fall into the same boat, meaning I like them because its unique compared to the other races. Variety is always good.

Anyway, nice work on all of your faces so far. :goodjob:

Maybe (only if you feel like it that is) you should let us choose as we could with bosmers. I myself would certainly like to see your take on completely reddish eyes too.

I second this idea as I mentioned before. :)

Woman on the last screenshot has a strong resemblance to Dexter's sister (Debra). Is it she?

You're asking if Debra from Dexter is a 75 year old woman? She isn't, to my knowledge. :P

Trying something new here. http://i.imgur.com/Kjvtf.jpg I've been working on these wrinkles for a whileeee, trying to age her up so I can make another wise woman. And since everyone hates pretty supermodels. >:/
Heh, that makes two of us that likes the pretty supermodels (Suchs as the dunmer heads in the first pack realease) And since there are only a few old people heads, maybe you can, you know... Go back to those  Tehee

WOW! I love all three of the new ones. I just wanted to say that one on the far right really captures the essence of aging for me. My grandmother's eyes got a lighter and lighter shade of blue the older she got. They also got almost watery blue. The effect is captured beautifully in the one with the far right . . . yes, I mean the one with the red iris and the reddish-whites. You've converted me once again! You are doing wonderfully well and I look forward to using all of your variations. I guess I really didn't dislike the red eyes, I just disliked *ALL* the Dunmer having the exact same eyes.

*high five waswar* ;D Ok, don't have to tell me twice. Supermodels inc.

@ Elaura - Unfortunatelyyy.. two of the three are dead. ;x I just posted that to show the progression of aging that I'm doing on her. The far right will be the final product. I know what you mean about old people's eyes getting lighter, that's what I was trying to do. On another note, Dunmer are FREAKING hard to do. I don't know how every other texturer does it but.. ighfjdjd This pack is going very slowly. I've totally scrapped 2 finished products so far. Thank you so much for keeping me on point with your wonderful praise, Elaura. <3

Dunmer are so hard omg. Updated. >_< Sorry this isn't going faster but oh my god. I've had to delete like 5 finished products because they just didn't look good. You would think this would be as simple as desaturating a normal lady. (It's not!!!)

I like the new one, she looks fierce :)

I suppose desaturating doesn't work since you need subtly coloured highlights and shadows?

Slaanesh, the implication there is that I'll be able to do enough Dunmer girls to make a replacer! Let's take it one step at a time, these are sooo hard to do :x I'll try my best tho.

Kirtai, thanks for the response. :) And you're right. You need to adjust like 50 different things to make it look right including saturation for one thing, but also shadow/highlight, exposure, sharpness, etc. Sometimes a normal/tan face just simply won't work and I don't have the skills to make it work. I'm just learning as I go.

Heh, only 1 replaced head would be better than none. But also, have you tried taking normal faces, making them black/white, then changing the color balance?

I usually use gradient map then either color balance or like hue/sat-->colorize and just mess with it until it's right. So yeah, basically yeah.

Thank you so much! I'm really happy that people can enjoy what I'm doing. I tried to mod Morrowind like 10 years ago but I had no idea what I was doin and plus school was pretty intensive. This is just something I've always kinda wanted to do and I couldn't be happier with the response. :) :)

I can understand that. When I first started about 3 or 4 years ago, I made (and published) two mods. One added skeletons all over pelagiad, and another put a huge globe resource in the middle of Balmora. It was pretty sad >.>

But, I like to think I've improved a bit since then. I'm sure you will as well, and will continue to shock and amaze us all ;)
