Did someone say Dunmer? (WIP)

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 11:53 am

This project won't be as fast as the others. Nonetheless, here are some preliminary screens.
http://i.imgur.com/Kgloc.jpg How's this?
http://i.imgur.com/gNjx6.jpg Similar face with another head mesh.
http://i.imgur.com/Jk54Y.jpg - Thinking Ashlander wise woman. Used this as inspiration http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_loyfl6WGNn1qdjg0ko1_500.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/oawQV.jpg Updated Ashlander woman, is this any better?

Be really honest. If you commented before about changes needing to be made, tell me if I'm getting closer to perfect or going in the wrong direction. Ty in advance!

UPDATE:

Trying something new here. http://i.imgur.com/Kjvtf.jpg I've been working on these wrinkles for a whileeee, trying to age her up so I can make another wise woman. And since everyone hates pretty supermodels. >:/

UPDATE: Just how many Ashlander wise women are there, anyway? Cause here's another. http://i.imgur.com/nLfML.jpg Using more of this aging/wrinkling technique, not sure if it looks good/realistic.

And another younger one: http://i.imgur.com/WxcMf.jpg

Sorry if these look 'too human.' I realized that part of what's making them look human is that I'm not using that crazy elongated super jagged head mesh that most Dunmer replacers use, and that's a personal choice. I just think the rounder/softer one looks better. *shrug*

UPDATE: You know I can't let an add-on go by without making at least one face with crazy makeup. http://i.imgur.com/fEZhJ.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/5xAdb.jpg @_@ Going to just do a few more I think. Trying to give them a wide variety of eyes, though the vast majority will be lore-correct this time.

http://i.imgur.com/GFBdl.jpg - For Lyssia!

http://i.imgur.com/ECD9i.jpg Another not quite so young one. Trying to do a variety of ages here.

Hey, I think you may find this useful.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6825

I don't think you're using it, and it will just make your bodies match your faces in quality a bit :) Nice work, keep it up!

Thanks Slaanesh, but I am using it. It's packaged with MGSO. Extreme closeups show flaws in the body texture, but I use them for screenshots because they show the detail in my faces too. :s

I have to say, whilst I love your faces, if you want some feedback on these, I find something 'off' with the eyes in these dunmer heads which I can't quite put my finger on. It's most prominent in the first picture, least noticeable in the ashlander women. Maybe it's just me.

Maybe Slaanesh is refering to the weird shadow thingies which are caused by the hair used along with MGEXE

Also, I love the faces, but eyes seem a wee bit dislocated.

edit: ninja'd by Chainy, seems like you ain't the only one.

As you can see here some of the girls have completely red eyes. May this is an option? Some also don't have red eyes ^_^

Dunno... they're beautiful, but somehow look too much like recolored humans, especially two first. With Altmers and Bosmers (the latter even without black eyes, often), there was an undoubted tint of alienness, something showing that they're not just women with long ears, but those of Finer Folk, inhuman and inscrutable. These are... just especially well groomed.

Oh, and is glisteding skin on the Ashlander an intended feature or just some MGE effect?

Most probably the texture of the face, afaik MGE can't do that.

I love the older face, not only would that be good for an Ashlander wise woman, it looks perfect for some of the older pilgrim women, like the one you have to convince to move out of Vivec in that one Temple quest. The other two look great to me; I'm not sure I see the "human-ness" of the faces, compared to your other elf faces, as Kir was saying, although I certainly do see the resemblence between the first one and one of your Redguards. The face shape works well for Dunmer, IMHO, so if you wanted to make them look more "elf-like", I'll bet you could do it just by changing the shape of the eyes a little and perhaps reducing the fullness of the lips. Usual disclaimer: I am NOT an artist, have never done any modeling or texturing, and have no real idea what I am talking about, so ignoring me is a perfectly valid option. And like I said, I think they are fabulous just as they are, so I for one will not be unhappy if you leave them untouched.

I've never been a fan of the red-eyed Dunmer, but they all look good to me.

Looking good so far, definitely doing a good job at keeping variety between the races and your faces also seem to keep a good amount of that angularity that vanilla faces had. Still looking forward to the possible/eventual Morrowind's Epic... Lads?

I do have to admit this is one case where lore does mess around with us, red eyes are more or less a must have for dark elves and there wasn't a single vanilla head for female or male that didn't have at least some red tint to it as far as I remember. What varied was if the whole eye was red (in the same fashion as whole-black eye for bosmers), if it had only red retinas and whit sclerotics, or if sclerotics were red but also featured a much darker retinas. Red eyes are a feature that's as common as their ash skin, due to transformation from the legend according to the lore, so you get my point. :P

Of course this is just what I remember from vanilla game and lore, I'm not a lore freak myself and I wouldn't mind redless eyes myself, at all. :)

I think that one looks amazing. Very much keeps the feel of the traditional Dunmer look, while still being gorgeous. It's now very definately differnt from the first face.

I know I didn't suggest any changes to the first version, but I do confess, I like this one better. I can't quite put my finger on what you did, but it looks like there are more wrinkles around the eyes and on the forehead, making her look older even with the dark hair, instead of the white hair.

Ty Lyssia. You're the best! But if you ever do want to suggest changes, I won't think you're any less the best, or anything. Just sayin :D!

Chaka, you are completely right. I... how embarrasing - I mistook Sotthilde as a Dunmer from the pix I linked above. Didn't read the name, just watches the skin.

The one on the left is what I'm using right now, which is what I was talking about when I said I wasn't very impressed with the Dunmer ladies and their chins. I think I said pointed, but I meant square. The one on the right is much better.

Oh, I hope it's just that. If not, we human girls have a lot to live up to.. :P

And Jac that makes sense. That head mesh on the left is a bit jagged. I much prefer the one I mostly use, but I wondered if I shouldn't start to branch out. Still, I would want to MeshSmooth that jagged one first (it looks quite good after MeshSmooth) but until I learn max I would lose the animations. Mmph. I'll just stick with the nice pointy chin mesh I've been using for all this time I suppose.
