I did something very stupid with my esp.files

That something stupid been i was looking for a program to open them with so i could see how they are written an one of the programs google suggested was the creation kit.

An me figuring it would just open the file an not change the default program i said yes but not only did it open it which is fine with the file in question been a mod but it also changed the default opening program to the creation kit which i didnt want.

So i've got 2 major questions how do i go about restoring the esp default opening program and will it screw up my game.

I did try disabling all mods an deleting the data left over but when i reactivated i still had the creation kit as the default opening program.

Delete CreationKit.exe manually and then verify the files for the CK via Steam and see if that works. May not, though. It's kind of hard to tell what exactly your problem is.

It shouldn't effect anything - Skyrim still knows how to use those files. Creation Kit is merely designated the default editor. Edited to add - All of my esps look just like your screenshot and my game works fine.

You just changed the default method of opening the .esp file type. It doesn't prevent another program from opening it, but it does change the procedure of opening it with a double-click. For example you can change the default method of opening .ini files to notepad, but Skyrim still uses .ini files normally and you can use Wordpad or Word to open the files if you want.

You can manually delete associations with this program: http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/unassociate-file-types-windows-7-vista/
