Did I spoil myself by power leveling Blacksmithing?

Post » Tue Nov 29, 2011 5:34 pm

So I had made my character, Male Nordic warrior, steered my way towards Heavy Armor, 2 Handed, Archery, Blacksmithing (no other perks yet reall)

Worked my way up to level 50 blacksmithing, seemingly the normal way, make stuff i wear and what not, and I was about level 17 character

I decided, I had a tonne of cash, so I would power level blacksmithing, making as much stuff as fast as i could and as fast as it would restock in the store, and I blacksmithed my way to 100

Now, I had a tonne of dragonbone and scales, so I had all the material for 2 full sets of Dragonbone heavy (one for me, one for lydia, not sure if decking out companions is a good idea or not either)

Now i feel guilty, i'm still pretty early into the game (about 25 hours). And while leveling blacksmithing, I subsequently leveled my character, from about 17 to 25, not really on purpose...Have i spoiled myself beyond repent? Have i screwed myself over for finding anything nice in dungeons?? Do I have anything to look forward to getting?

I guess I can still pursue Daedric, as it needs hearts to create, which i have none of.

Any thoughts?

I have a save to before i started power leveling. So i can always revert back to my full set of Dwarven Heavy gear

I chose to save the hardcoe crafting until later in the game for almost this reason. I want there to still be some thrill in finding the higher levels of gear as loot as I progress, at least for my first character. On secondary playthroughs, where the thrill of discovery has already been satisfied, I may powerlevel crafting.

Did you surpass the current leveled gear by crafting? Yeah, sure... but that's what crafting is for. At the very least, there's still enhcnated gear and Daedric Artifacts to collect, however.

Any thoughts?

Yes and no.
Meaning you are not forced to wear what you make, but it is kinda nice to be able to improve what you find. Besides, the main quest can be completed under 3 hours if you disregard everything else.

well if u advanced in levels by using mainly smithing and choosing smithing perks, and u didnt invest in offensive perks
then yes the enemy is getting harder, yet u are not skilled enough to kill them

It's really dumb that they don't separate crafting from general leveling and just give it it's own leveling system.

You shouldn't be able to gimp yourself just by crafting gear.

I've chosen to limit crafting to 2.5 points per level, so that I don't gimp my characters just to have good gear. You need offensive skills too. I figure being at, or near, 100 by level 40 will give me plenty of time to enjoy it.

There's still enchanting before you have the best gear, also using smithing potions and enchantments when making armour will make it better than you have it think, so you really don't have the best armour yet.

well while enemies scaled up increasing both their damage and health all you have is better armor rating. armor in skyrim seems much weaker than in onlivion when armor negated enemy attack by certain percentage. now this is absolute value, so unless you smith your gear while wearing fully enchanted gear with +smithing% armor alone just isnt reliable i guess.
