However i never saw any mention of the separation of mainland China and Taiwan, but i assume it happened before the divergence? Maybe China took it back as it became a superpower? Or Taiwan remained a nation until the Great War?

We don't know. It is possible it didn't because the timeline started to change after World War 2. If it did then it would have been taken back by China at some point as the world started to fall apart.

Edit: The only mention of Taiwan was in the cancelled "Fallout Extreme" and that isn't even close to being canon. It never even got past the idea stage of development.

yes it happen the cancelled game fallout tactics 2 was going to be in china were the chinese nationalist took back china but its not canon but its the closest thing we have on the state of china and taiwan. In till bethesda say otherwise

It was independent at the point of the Divergence but, in all likeliness, it was probably annexed before the war with the US.

Honestly, who would intervene on Taiwan's behalf during the Resource Wars? This is assuming that this did not happen before then.

Fallout Tactics 2 was going to be Florida. The information you are talking about comes from "Fallout: Extreme" a game that never got beyond "Hey I have an idea."

I think it is safe to assume that there was a Civil War in China seeing as the country is in fact communist. However the existence of Taiwan is unknown.
