Did the Dark Brotherhood kill Countess Llathasa Indarys?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:48 pm

During the course of the fourth installment of the series ( Oblivion ) we learn that the Countess Llathasa of Cheydinhal was recently murdered ( perhaps shortly before the time the player escapes the imperial prison ) and found beaten at the bottom of the stairs in the great hall. It's never explained who killed her, some say the count did it but is it possible the dark brotherhood did it as an incentive for the count to stay hush about the sanctuary and keep his guards from raiding it?

Most likely. They did say her death was very...sketchy, and the DB members do mention they give him..."incentives" to ignore their hideout.

Heh, something like this? "Agree to keep your trap shut about us, and we'll do something about that screeching nag your father forced you to marry..." :P

its implied, but no answer is ever given. It would have made a great quest though.

Indeed, to obtain the other heirloom you opted not to be granted in "The Wayward Knight." seems fair.

Probably more like a warning, like killing her and delivering a message along the line of "If you breath a word about us, you'll be next." I could see it being a possibility either way, though, we know that the countess is dead, and it's implied that it may well be a murder, that the Dark Brotherhood did it sounds plausible, though it could also be someone who had a grudge against the countess or count, and took it out in that manner, or the count himself might have been having difficulties dealing with his wife, and decided to eliminate her.

No, I like Tarvok's interpretation more. He's described as a womanizer too, so if the shoe fits...

I prefer the intimidation angle, simply because the way they went about it left doubts as to whether Andel himself was the murderer. Had it been at his behest, they would have likely arranged a convenient alibi, made it look like an accident, or any number of other things to completely absolve Andel of any involvement.

That's not to say that a little of both isn't true, however; perhaps he wanted her dead and hired them, but they decided to do it in such a way as to send a message letting him know that should he try to take action against them, bad things would happen to him.

Wasn't it mentioned in one of the rumors that the count has a bad temper? If thats true maybe she just lost her balance...at the top of the stairs

Yeah. In truth, it never occurred to me that the Brotherhood could be behind it. I always figured the Count did it himself.

It might have been intended to be part of the nobility quest line that was cut.

oh wow, I'm an idiot. I thought the "incentives" Valteri mentioned was that the count was a vampire himself, and they threatened to reveal him if he ever spoke a word about the brotherhood.

right over mah head...

Heh wrong Count my friend, though the DB does know that Count Hassildor of Skingrad is a vampire, and could conceivably use that information against him, or to blackmail him. Though he's much stronger-willed than any of the other Counts (especially Regulus Terentius of Bravil), and I don't think he'd take to kindly to such a threat.

However, the discovery of the Count's wife, Lady Llathasa Indarys, badly battered and dead at the foot of the County Hall stairs immediately attracted scandal, and rumors of the Count's dissipation, rages and infidelities suggest a darker mystery behind her death.

- Guide to Cheydinhal

Badly battered and dead. Anyone remember Gogron gro-Bolmog? I always figured he had something to do with it. But then again, I heard nothing about being split into multiple pieces, so I might be wrong.

Those guides were filled with so much opinion and propaganda, I just can't take it as a credible source for anything.

I wouldn't put it past Mrs. Ottus to embellish the story a bit.

She would totally embellish the story, especially since the count is a dunmer and not an imperial

Well if they murdured his wife, he might have been so angry that there'd be 100 soldiers breaking down their door...

No, I doubt it. He doesn't have that kind of resolve, from what I've seen. He'd be cowed for sure.

Janus Hassildor, on the other hand, would singlehandedly kill every member of the Cheydinhal sanctuary if they tried anything like that with him. He'd probably seek out and destroy the Black Hand too, for good measure.

Janus Hassildor is, not to mention, the only count that seems to have any balls. All the other counts are either racist, weak-kneed, or average. If his vampirism wasn't an issue, he could probably have pursued a higher field of office.

Another bad feeling I get is if the count's son inherits his seat...Cheydenhal is screwed and probably would either be replaced by disgruntled citizens, or almost become a 2nd Bravil. Seriously, his kid is nothing more than a spoiled [censored] head, whom I should have tossed into the lava pits of Oblivion, and let the daedra play around with his smoldering corpse (if there is any)

The beatings were injuries sustained from her fall. If only Necromancy hadn't been outlawed, then the Pathologist Necromancer could have examined the body and there'd be no such terrible gossip!

Which bring me to another point. A. Ottus does fill her guides with incredibly evanishable information. She can keep writing new ones in perpetuity.

I've been trying to make strides in medical necromancy, and it was going great. But the damn guild has kicked me off, and I've fallen on some hard times. Not to mention some psycho has been killing my collaborators who were helping me with this :stare:
