Did the Enclave just not think it through?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 12:35 am

So one thing I can't grasp is how did a paramilitary right wing group like the Enclave, formed by CEOs, politicians, and some of the most powerful forces of America, think it was a good idea to store an atomic bomb on their oil rig? I mean honestly, it sounds more like it was cop out writing to me than logical explanation.

they where saving it if they ever needed one? A back up plan if the curling virus didn't pan out? lots of reasons. Also wasn't the oil rig explosion a result of the power systems going critical? I seem to recall having to smash some computers.

It's definitely a nuclear reactor that you sabotage. If it looks like a bomb I suspect they were just reusing a sprite.

This.

Its the Oil Rig's Nuclear Reactor, not a nuclear weapon. Perfectly reasonable (and necessary) for them to have that on board. The CO just got lucky is all.

The Chosen One kills the President and destroys the Oil Rig by deactivating/destroying the coolant systems, overloading the primary reactor and causing a megaton-sized thermonuclear explosion.

Oooh. I havent played Fallout 2, so all I remembered was the Enclave reactor looking like a bomb to me and thought that was really dumb because all it would take is one secretly rebellious person to blow them up. But according to the wikia (I checked it to see if I could see the reactor to see if I could see the sprite for the reactor, dunno why I thought it was an A-Bomb) the presidential level has a bomb, but I don't recall a bomb in the Presidential level :/

IIRC It has a sprite for the bomb as used in FO1... As to whether the sprite reprints a bomb in this game or not - as you can't interact with it who knows if its a bomb; much less a boom-able bomb.

Wow I must not have paid attention or it was very easy to miss. I just had to much fun chatting with the mentally fried VP. Speaking of which, why WAS he so insane? Wasn't it something about an FEV-13 immunity experiment shot that fried his brain? TO THE WIKI!

Yes. Vice-President Bird offered to be the first test subject for the experimental FEV immunization. However, it went wrong and left him mentally incapacitated. But it did provide valuable research data.

Its a reference to a former VP of the USA... I think its better if we don't look any further than that really.

Would be interesting if in a future game the devs will tell us that the FEV curling virus was ever let out on the Rig before the Core overheated and blew up. Not sure how that could ever be made canon.

Fallout New Vegas would have been a lot shorter if that happened. Only living creature being Mr House and all....

I believe he's referring to the option to release the FEV virus into the Oil Rig, killing all the Enclave within it. Then blowing it up.

The virus wouldn't have escaped into the atmosphere due to the explosion. Since it would have vaporized everything with the intense heat.

Lt. Andronicus is right, I am talking about that option to convince the scientist to give you and the Vault13/Arroyo captives the vaccine and then let the FEV curling virus into the air ducts.

I guess it doesn't matter, the leadership ends up dead no matter what.

Does the vaccine pass down throughout the generations?

If so than the Enclave becoming successful with their plan is the only way we would ever know (with the New Arroyo and people from their being the only ones to survive, along with the Enclave ofcourse).

The Enclave on the Rig and Navarro did not get the vaccine. They were working on it, just finished seeing as it works on the Chosen One and the Captives but it killed all the Enclave scietists/civilians.

The Enclave in Fallout 3 changed the curling virus again to make it water born, and more specific in who it targets.

Like most vaccines I would Imagine that I would be passed down to the young but would go away after a couple generations. Just like the smallpox vaccine. Then again we are dealing with SCIENCE! so it could very well be a multigenerational vaccine. It could have been more of a gene therapy.

So if the Enclave did somehow manage to do their plan again.. The people of New Arroyo could very well survive.

And then they would rebuild the world (again) after a second almost all consuming apocalypse.

That would've been an interesting way to take the series, push time forward eighty years after F2 and F3 could've had New Arroyo being the only major settlement with some minor settlements nearby...
