Did the Poet Rumi influence Vivec?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:14 am

All right, the idea of a mystical poet, that is much beloved by his people, with an unknown "Six Sermons"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumi#Major_works

Obviously, Rumi did not make himself a god. But it is arguable that he has come as close to immortality as a mortal can.

Plus, most of Rumi's works center around transcendence.....

Hmmm. Pretty swanky tomb.

All I do is have to act like a nymphomaniac and write poety to get a tomb like that? Yay.

As far as Rumi goes... don't know. But Vivec was heavily influenced by the character V from V for Vendetta.

Seriously.

Um, no.

But Rumi? I can see shades of him seeping in. Tremendous compliment, too.

Didn't know I was complimenting. But you're welcome all the same. Mostly the connection clicked when I realized the "Six Sermons" might be related to Thirty-Six others, and the corealations started cascading....

I don't get that either.

V basically tried to overthrow government.

Vivec stuck his metaphorical and metaphysical pee-pee into a god's mouth....

I don't see the similarities....

I like how you compare a character to a single action of another character...

I'm thinking Astion thought the same thing I did. Both have the name V, and V from V for Vendetta really was a sort of warrior-poet, both vastly intelligent and a skilled fighter, spouting quotes from the classics wherever he went. V was also more than a little slightly unhinged too.

But if the name V doesn't come from V for Vendetta, why was it chosen? Vehk is the only member of the Tribunal that doesn't have a complete name.

Um, no.

Need we say more re Vivec being modelled after "V" from "'V' for Vendetta"?

I actually didn't compare only those 2 events in my mind. I merely just posted that to mainly show how I don't really see a MAJOR comparison besides name. I'm sure there are other characters in fiction that are powerful and intelligent; the "unhinged-ness" of Vivec is a bit subjective, too.

I'm sure the "V" thing is also a major coincidence; to me, that would almost be like saying they got the name "Seht" from Set the Egyptian god.

Yes, but the word "Seht" for the Daedric S preceded the character of Seht. And he already has a complete name; Sotha Sil. Vehk has no name except Vehk, which is V.

Considering the Thelema inspiration, it might very well be a reference to Crowley's motto: V.V.V.V.V, also used in V for Vendetta: That is, Vi Veri Vniversum Vivus Vici -- "While still living, I have conquered the universe by dint of truth.
