did you expect water...

There's the possibility we was shown an alpha build of the game, or even before that. This could be some old footage and textures they cranked together.

They wouldn't be showing alpha footage in a trailer. That's the water.

I thought it looked amazing.

I still think Morrowind graphics look amazing.
Im old. I remember playing pong at my friends house, who had the first pc in the street.

Skyrim looks like a Vincente Segrelles piece of art.
Its beautiful.

That being said, graphics, who cares?
I want fabulous gameplay, gripping quests, NPC's that are awesome like Divayth Fyr or Barenziah or Vivec were.

Graphics are the icing on the cake, and Id still play Skyrim and love it if it used minecraft graphics.

I'm not inclined to really complain about graphics, but the rapids did really stick out of that scene, the first time I watched the trailer (I wasn't tricked into seeing a problem by reading the forums).

Looking at it again, I think the main problems are twofold:

1. The flow looks unnatural - look at how the water flows beside the rocks. The rocks just seem like they're superimposed over the water, because the direction of the flow doesn't change when the water goes past the rocks. There're no little curves or anything like that.

2. The water is very flat. The little splashes and foam and so on are nice, but there needs to be some better waves in the surface.

I don't know anything about computer graphics, so I don't know how this would be done. Maybe there are good reasons why this is difficult to achieve. But those are the things which struck me about the water.

Even so, the more I watch the video, the less unimpressed I get, because the more I notice the little splashes and foam and so on.

flowing water is hard to make look nice. Im sure, given time, they will get it sorted out. If not, i'll just lower the opacity on it and make it clear.

The waterfall is supposed to be white water. There is nothing wrong with it. You can clearly see a different type of water by the watermill in the next shot. Also keep in mind this was all taken on an Xbox 360, and this is not the final build of the game.

I happen to like the water.

The water was my fav part of all the footage, it looks awesome. So much better than past games, finally real waterfalls, raging rivers, underground streams all very beautiful. I don't understand the water bashing at all, it looks amazing.

I loved the the big river scene around 1:25 it may have been my fav moment of the trailers. Either way the water over all was my fav thing. Finally water that is not dull and lifeless like past games.

And they sure as hell aint using that time to fix the water. Stop deluding yourself. The whole game has low res textures, not just the dragon. The moving water was the only decent water I saw, even if it was low res. All the still water looked worse than Morrowind.

Sadly, I have to say that you are correct. Also sadly, I have to say that the water in Two Worlds II absolutely blows this out of the water(no pun intended), which is even sadder:

It's not like it will ruin the game or anything, but c'mon Bethesda, you should at least look better than TW2! Anyway, on a positive note, everything else about this game looks so damn fine, that I forget all about the textures and water. It probably won't look as nice as something like the Witcher 2, but it sure as hell will be a better game!!!

Skyrim won't be out until November. BGS still has nine months to polish, refine, and improve the entire game. The trailer isn't the final build of the game. Also PC will have high textures and anti-aliasing, unlike consoles, so there will be a huge difference in that alone. The Witcher 2 is being made solely for PC so CD Projekt Red doesn't really have to worry about accommodating to consoles likes BGS.

Two Worlds II is way to shiny for me, it looks insainly fake. Skyrim looks a lot darker, like it's been through hell and back. Ya know, realistic for the area that's trying to be depected. That said, the ocean and small white water rapids are two different things entirely. They got pretty darn close to what white water looks like irl, especially for a console.

The water in that video is irrelevant for comparison purposes. That water is the lazy, gentle waves on the beach. Most of what people here are discussion is the swift movement of glacial runnoff. Two very different situations that would require very different affects. The type of water shown in the TW2 video wasn't really seen at all in the Skyrim video, so we can't make a comparison about it.

Im gonna drown my first Skyrim character in those waters......

But seriously I noticed how bad they were too. I knew when I watched it there would be a topic about it. Its probably gonna look better in game. If not..... oh well. Its gonna be at least worth 60 bucks. But I hope beth doesnt let me down on my new life to come November.

I don't think anyone is "mad" about water. But the water effects in Skyrim are trumped by games that came out in 2002. That's a problem.

Really people. Really? When I first saw this trailer I was blown away. Honestly...

Now I see this thread about water? I have watched this trailer three times since I read this post and I can quite honestly say the water looks fantastic. It flows, it has mass and depth, seems to have a shimmering surface, and is anything but the "50% opacity film" that comprised the morrowind and oblivion water. And the textures? Maybe not as high res as some pc games I can think of but holy schnikeys, consider the scope of this game! I would take content, a smooth framerate, and good animation over a little bit higher resolution.

Holy cripes... we've got a terrific game on the horizon and all anyone can complain about is water, spears, and low res textures. I'm almost to the point of not coming back to these forums because all anyone can do anymore is pi$$ and moan about trivial BS. Just let these guys at Bethesda do their jobs, and the true test will be when the game actually comes out... Not freaking 9 months before release!!!

Phew, ok. Got that off my chest. I feel better.

*edit for spelling

This thread is ridiculous on so many levels I don't even know where to start. I'm just going to say the water looks great and hopefully it looks just like this in the final game. Keep up the good work BGS. Good stuff as always.

Morrowind didn't even have flowing water, but its still water was amazing for its time, as I imagine Skyrim's will be. And that river looked a hell of a lot better than those rivers in Oblivion.

Forget about the white water for a second, and look at all the other instances when we saw the water in the trailer. Now remember that white water is not like that water, it being different in that it is white, foamy, and looks all together different than normal water. Now go look up white water on the big internet, and then compair. Finally, go try to find many white water rapids in games of this scope and compare.

Done? Good.

also when people say they wouldn't spend the last 4 months making the water look good why not they wouldn't release a release date unless they have the important stuff down like the new engines and the vast world and story line so the months coming up to it would be for polishing the game not rushing on the important stuff in the last minute

I think it looks good, but the way the water crashes into itself from different directions (in the rapids scene) doesn't look realistic
