did you expect water...

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 7:15 pm

Well it doesn't look good now, i give you that, but i am more than sure that's not what it will look like in the released game! ;)

After all, come on ppl, it's 9 months from releasing... Drawing ultimate conclusions just now is not serious...

I personally don't care as long as it isn't a sign of bad gameplay, which it isn't so.......

I do agree that the water at 1:25 doesn't look that good, but look at the water at 1:35 for example, there it looks awesome! :o

What are you talking about? How could the water graphics affect gameplay? Besides performance issues, which won't happen, it doesn't. Which means he was right.

I know right? Just accept the water is bad. Doesn't mean the rest of the game will be, but they need to fix this.

Of course it doesn't, that would be a ridiculous thing to think - however when you're creating a scene, the whole is only as good as the worst part. And that water would bring the immersion of any scene with it in crashing down. It's so bad not because it's bad, but because it's much worse than the rest of the scene.

It's hilarious how so many of you are in denial. The water looks bad people, it really does. It looks like it's from a game from 1999.
Why do you not want to admit this?

It's a fairly small thing to complain about, but even so, there will be texture mods for stuff like that. Assuming you have the benefit of playing on PC.

...to be this awfully looking, seriously ? man, we're in 2011 that's a real shame !

1:44 into the trailer and tell me the water svcks again please... Your thinking of that white water scene which looks really good for rushing white water run off, they replicated the foam as best as possible so please stop trying to say that is indicative of water in the game.

And they sure as hell aint using that time to fix the water. Stop deluding yourself. The whole game has low res textures, not just the dragon. The moving water was the only decent water I saw, even if it was low res. All the still water looked worse than Morrowind.

No, because they aren't fixing anything. See, people don't actually understand game development, they think they make an object and the textures right off the bat to be as good as its going to get. The fact is that for most of their development time, games are full of placeholders. You have to put in placeholders in order for development to continue on other aspects of the game. Its the last phase of development when they polish and replace. Textures, models, animations, effects, even sounds, are all likely to get replaced in the last phase of development.

Also, people need to stop comparing this to Morrowind and Oblivion, where the water was at a set level. It may have "looked" better, but it was less realistic. Water didn't go anywhere, and throughout the entirely landmass, we were forced to have water at the same elevation. Water in Skryim, flows downhill. This means that terrain can be crafted more realistically, with water flowing from the mountains into the sea. This is a HUGE improvement over Oblivion and Skyrim.

Except that this is a gameplay trailer. Not a teaser, or a release trailer, something that's actually meant to be indicative of the game - so you can be sure that while there are many placeholders left, they'll have steered well clear of them for the trailer. It's not good marketing to show things that don't work yet.

Oh please. Some of us honestly don't think it looks bad - and I'm 100% sure it doesn't look as god awful and terrible as you people make it seem. This entire thread is redundant and pretentious, seeing as these concerns could have been posted in many of the other topics already present on the board. But I guess the opportunity to slam something (regardless of how minor and unimportant it is) was just too hard to pass up.

Maybe you should watch the trailer again and actually see the actual water in the game.... Try 1:44 sec and say water is bad looking in skyrim.

The game will not get better if we sit around talking about how good everything is. Saying something is not perfect is not pretentious or slamming something.
