Yes. It's not the level of immersion you get with single player RPGs but it's leaps and bounds better than most MMOs.
They're better than skyrim and engaging, you get npc's following you, they have dialogue, they explain why you are killing what or gathering what, there's a story all voiced, its nice I enjoyed it.
It was hit and miss; however, I will say this, which I haven't seen brought up enough...The level of immersion with having a multitude of NPCs roaming around was wonderful. One of my biggest gripes with other TES games is the limited number of people. For example, in Skyrim you happen upon a walled city and maybe 10-15 people are there. Now you can enter a non-capital town and find many more people wandering around including a good sized crowd at inns. The people at inns you can even talk to and find out about hidden ruins....very cool.
If you play the quests like you play any other MMO quests then they are in my opinion worse than most other MMO quest.
BUT, if you listen to the character and invest your own character into the quest, then the quests raises to a whole new level, I think the reason for this is that the quests are not designed like normal MMO quests but more like traditional RPG quests where emotional involvement is rewarded greatly.
Yes, but my approach to them was this: The second i got on the deck of the ship in the first starter area, and saw a plank leading to a city, i turned around and jumped overboard in the OTHER direction. And went from there. Exploring Stros'Mkai at my own pace, enjoying the sights, picking locks on chests i found, gathering resources, and doing the odd quest here or there when i happened to stumble into one.
I only went to the city when i decided it is time to find out where i can make something nice for myself from all these resources i gathered. And i did, and while i was there, i picked up a couple more quests, and went exploring the other side of the island. By the time i explored everything, i had majority of the quests done, without specifically setting out to 'do quests'. They just happened, on the side.
I can imagine that if i would instead focus on finding all the quests i could, then try to do them as fast as possible, in the most efficient manner possible, i would leave the starter zone in half the time, but bored to tears. So don't
