Did you like new Mechanist?

Post » Fri Mar 25, 2016 6:02 am

So in the end, did you get your dose of silly? I dont think there was much of it aside the last quest.

And yeah, I did like Isabel.

There could have been room for more silliness, but I'd say a good half of it is wonderful. The Rust Devils, Jezebel, and the final quest were the some of the best parts of the entire game.

It was unfortunate that we didn't get a backstory as to how she chose to become The Mechanist. In F3 both those guys were comic book fans and had taken up a comic book rivalry. There was nothing alluded to in the new mechanist's conversation about her being a big fan of the mechanist comic book.

After

Spoiler
finding out it was because the Robobrains are essentially Ultron from Marvel comics

I was more than understanding of the situation. I was also surprised because I had honestly expected it to the the Mechanist from Fallout 3.

Spoiler
The mechanist took a gamble, and overlooked the robobrains potential to twist her orders. And she being a shy introvert, holed away in her lair, naturally she wasn't able to foresee the error in time....let alone do anything about it.

Spoiler
If you look in her bedroom in her lair, you see a comic book cover poster of the Unstoppables featuring the Mechanist. It hints that she is a bit of a comic nerd, as the Antagonizer was, and saw it as a fitting persona to don to mask her shyness and inability to convey herself without a mask. She says all she knows is machines and robots, and that poster tells me she was a fan of the Mechanist as a character.

They oughta do a DLC where you have to get the Unstoppables together to fight evil together.....the SS is the shroud, of course, Isabel can take up her role as the Mechanist again....just need Grognak, MoM and the lady they haven't Identified yet.

Hah hah! I would love a Marvel style team-up DLC.

SS Silver Shroud: "We will take back the Commonwealth from our enemies! The Unstoppables will not be stopped!"

Grognak: "No seriously, can I get some actual armor here? Isabel, come on, hook me up."

Mechanist: "W..Who is Isabel?!"

Judging from the posters, I think the other member is named The Inspector. Don't forget Manta Man, though... even if he is forgettable.

He's actually around, as a random encounter. All he needs is an outfit.

i did like that she really needed the mechanist persona to become stronger, as when you convince her to remove the helmet she turns super shy and introverted INSTANTLY. I thought that was a really cool addition.

I went into the DLC 100% ready to kill The Mechanist and and display his armor as a trophy. The entire time I was throwing Synth grenades at The Mechanist's army in a grand Institute Director vs. Mechanist robot battle of the century.

However, when it turned out she was a cute dark-haired shy girl.....well [censored]. I couldn't do it obviously. :P

So instead I equipped her with an Institute Robotics Labcoat and gave her a job. The Institute needs people like her. People with the vision to unleash a robotic horde on The Commonwealth. :touched:

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who threw Synth Relay Grenades around in order to show who has a better http://i.imgur.com/p6PRswo.jpg ;P

The comic character itself didn't pop up for me in her dialogue.

I can confirm this. I failed the speech check but still succeed at talking her down and getting everything calm.

I just wish that there was a way to allow her to make new robots which weren't under the command of the Robobrains. Would be nice to have an army of friendly robots helping me out in the wasteland.

Honestly, this would be really great as a mini-series of DLCs. Have another 10 Dollar DLC after Far Harbor about Grognak, MoM, and that lady then have a finale DLC which does require the others, where you gotta team up like that... It would be pretty dang glorious.

You need to re-enter the dialogue to see that the old dialogue option was replaced by another.

Or just introduce a new superhero in every DLC? Like a Superhero comes to fight in your arena in WW and another superhero is active in Far Harbor and follows you back to Commonwealth. And they all come to aid you in the final DLC as a secret gimmick.

it was iirc the 3rd line in my (post quest) dialogue with her.

in the 2nd line, you can ask her, like, how she got the idea, and next time you talk to her, there's a line saying ~"a comic?", which i first thought was the same question as 2 again (quite similar phrasing, dreaded dialogue wheel of doom, y'know how it goes :-), but it turned out a new one, and she'll explain how she once found a bunch of posters etc :-)

yeah, and allow her to design new robot parts fitting the new "nice" theme, that look a bit more.... well... spikeless? :-)

A fun fact about those posters: they are made by D.P

Interestingly, the initials fit http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Derek_Pacion, the kid who was the fan of Mechanist in FO3. A nice easter egg and way to relate to FO3's Mechanist IMO.

That too and even if you don't have the DLC... They still come to your aid in the finale DLC (as long as you're playing it as the Silver Shroud).

Question is though, this does means that in one of the DLCs... We have to give someone the Grognak stuffs or should they just have their own version of it?

~Edit~

I can easily see someone dressing up as Grognak in the WW DLC to fight in your arena when you make one...

Maybe the caravan was just from Canterbury, and now that Derek is a 25 year old he's publishing Mechanist comics posters professionally? So he sold a couple the to the caravaners?

...or maybe he was killed in the raid. :unsure2:
