I did actually try it, but it didnt last long. Atleast not long enough that Id vote yes. I might try it in F4 it us more than tedious boringness.
I think it added some good difficulty to Dead Money and Lonesome Road.
i ddid in NV and did in FO3 ( withmods) and did in dkyrim also with mods
it has to be optional tho
I agree. The name is misleading.
I voted yes and yes. I enjoyed it NV, even the food and water, because together with ammo weight you had to have a proper base of operations (storage!) and to plan your trips.
No, I'm playing Fallout as a RPG game, not survivor game, not simulation game.
But...if they introduce HC mode again, why not add duty feature? The more irradiated food player's character eat, the more duty he/she must take, players like "realism" and "challenge" isn't it?
Duty ...?
Also, I think that the FWE mod for F3 was superior to NV's hardcoe mode, but the stuff FWE introduced (heavy radiation, need med. braces for crippled limbs) is best left for mods.
It's to add some realism, especially if it fits with the setting...but adding too much stuff will make it into Sims: just doing the hard work for a bainless NPC that can't do anything by itself...
Yeah, but I had a mod that disabled ammo weight because no.
hardcoe mode with Sawyers tweak mod all the way.
Of course. I'll also try everything in Fallout 4 - except any weapon which is not an energy weapon.
Only played it on my first playthrough, primarily for the achievement. Upon completion I immediately turned it off. The small mechanics it added didn't really add much of a survival challenge I thought, just some measly micromanaging and I don't play Fallout to do that, let alone play it as a survival game.
Don't get me wrong however, I would love to see a hardcoe mode in Fallout 4 for it to simply be an option. Even more so if more was done for it I might give it a whirl. I just didn't find it all that impressive in Fallout New Vegas.
No/No
Hmm, only a bit surprised by how lopsided the poll is at the moment. After all, the forum somewhat self-selects for the most intense fans, i.e, the type who would be more likely to use the survival mode.
Yep, played with FWE in Fallout 3, and hardcoe mode in NV. Although, the Sink did make a lot of NV's hardcoe mechanics trivial.
I've played Fallout: New Vegas for hundreds of hours, and each time with hardcoe Mode enabled. Although it wasn't perfect, I felt it did add a bit more of a 'survival' feel to the game. On top of the need for food, water and sleep, I especially liked the fact that Stimpack's and Radaway healed over time, instead of instantly, doctor's bags had to be used to heal crippled limbs, and ammo actually had weight.
Of course, not everyone likes this feature so having it as an optional feature would be a win/win.
Although, if they do implement a hardcoe mode for Fallout 4 I hope that they will flesh out the system more and make it have a bigger impact on gameplay. I think it would work hand in hand with the settlements as well....as the settlements you build need food, water, power, etc. so it only makes sense if our character needs these things as well.
I played NV in hard core. The simple fact, however, is that most people didn't. I like the hard core, in fact I liked the jsawyer mod even better. You can make an argument that hard core is fun and you personally want it included, and that is great. But arguing, like many people in the other thread have, that almost everyone played and it was an essential element of the game is just plain wrong.
The results of this poll (targeting us on the messages who are in a very tiny minority of players) will have no reflection at all on how the general player base (that is, the demographic Bethesada is most interested in financially speaking) played the game.
No hardcoe for me. I don't play these games to get my butt kicked. My enjoyment is more in the exploration and quests and such.
My first three or four runs through New Vegas, I did not use hardcoe mode but this most recent run I'm currently on, I'm trying it. Frankly, the food/drink/sleep thing is just more annoying than anything (as some have mentioned) but I wouldn't be averse to having SOME of the other features, like stimpacks that heal over time or requiring a doctor's bag to repair crippled limbs and no healing through sleep.
Ammo weight, though, is a bit of an issue for me. If I had ~one~ gun that I used, that might be okay, but I inevitably carry a silenced rifle, a big-hitting rifle (Anti-materiel), and two pistols, sometimes another energy pistol, etc. When I find myself using a Bag Of Holding style mod to allow me to carry everything I want --- crafting materials, etc so I don't have to go back to my base to get some Scrap Electronics to repair an elevator in the basemant of a Vault, eg ---- then what's the POINT of hardcoe mode?
I even tried a mod where you have to monitor your ~cleanliness~... you would get dirty as you trekked across the Mohave, and that would negatively impact your Charisma unless you took a bath periodically. I think the same mod even required you to use the bathroom every so often or else your agility would suffer (dancing around, trying to 'hold it in') and if you STILL didn't use the facilities, you would have an ~accident~ that would eliminate the Agility penalty (since you're 'relieved') but would cause a Charisma penalty because, well, you just soiled yourself.
While it was an amusing idea to have to carry around a roll of toilet paper (lottery tickets had a use finally!), it quickly just became annoying.
That's the thing that makes the difference --- whether it's annoying or not. Stimpacks healing over time instead of magically giving insta-full-health is fine.... monitoring every calorie you eat, not so much.
This is me, too.
I liked it for the challenge and also for the fact that it was optional. I really appreciate that. I usually play on Normal/Normal or Normal/hardcoe without much of a problem.
Another thing in defense of Obsidian, I think they did a pretty good job with including it, considering they only had 18 months to work on the game.
Yep. I can't say it was well implemented though, at least on the 'Needs' side. They needed needs to progress slower (so waiting/travelling didn't kill you) but be harder to reduce (so you actually had to drink/eat something substantial). And sleep literally never was a problem, ever. I would sleep a few hours a week and be absolutely fine, so what was the point?
